Commande du duo Pulsaxion (Radek Khop et Philippe Spiesser), créée au Festival Aujourd'hui Musique à Perpignan le 22 novembre 2008. Né en 1953 à Perpignan, Daniel Tosi est aujourd'hui compositeur et chef d'orchestre. Il obtient six premiers Prix au CNSM de Paris. Parallèlement, il accomplit des études à la Sorbonne où, après avoir réussi l'agrégation, il obtient un doctorat es lettres du Troisième cycle (mention Très Bien). Titulaire également de deux Certificats d'Aptitude (Analyse et Direction des Conservatoires Nationaux de Région), il occupe un poste d'inspecteur à la Direction de la Musique et entreprend un travail pédagogique selon sa triple activité de composition, recherche et direction d'orchestre. En 1983, Daniel Tosi obtient le Prix de Rome. Pensionnaire de la Villa Medicis jusqu'en 1985, il reçoit cette même année le prix Georges Enesco décerné par la Sacem. En 1986, il reçoit le Prix de la Villa Medicis Hors les Murs lui permettant de réaliser une oeuvre à l'étranger (Barcelone). En 1999 Daniel Tosi obtient la distinction d'Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres et, plus récemment, reçoit le prix Claude Arrieu (décerné par la Sacem) Ses oeuvres sont régulièrement jouées dans de nombreux festivals de musique contemporaine (Paris, Rome, Strasbourg, Turin, Milan, La Rochelle, Bourges, Perpignan, Caen, etc) par des formations diverses ainsi que par des solistes renommés (Ensemble de l'Itinéraire, les Percussions de Strasbourg, le Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, l'ensemble Solars Vortices, TM +, Jean Lennert, Jean Geoffroy, etc) Outre ses activités de compositeur et chef d'orchestre, Daniel Tosi dirige le Conservatoire Perpignan Méditerranée depuis 1989. / Saxophone Alto Et Marimba

Par HUMMEL BERTOLD. The overall form of this work in one movement is in seven sections. A slow introduction begins with multiphonics of the saxophone and sounds of cymbals played with a double-bass bow. Vibraphone and marimbaphone provide the chordal foundation for a fanfare-like invocation by the saxophone. The atmosphere of the following Allegro is dominated by an ostinato series of notes taken from the chords of the introduction and played by the marimbaphone - over this, starting from a four-note series, the saxophone develops jazz-influenced figures. The constructional elements are worked into a cadenza-like section, followed by an arioso passage, leading over lightly-pulsating sounds to a final climax with a B-A-C-H (B flat - A - C - B) quotation in the saxophone. Once again, it continues with a cadenza-like section. Slap in the saxophone and stopped notes in the vibraphone and marimbaphone introduce new ideas and sonorities for discussion, the constructional elements are played off against each other in a loose sequence. At the end of this second cadenza, the B-A-C-H (B flat - A - C - B) quotation re-appears in the saxophone. A varied reprise of the first Allegro section leads to a concluding passage, taking up the atmosphere of the introduction, combined however with clear references to the four-note series of the Allegro.
