Four American Choruses was commissioned by Simon Halsey and the City Of Birmingham Symphony Chorus who gave the premiere of I'm A Pilgrim the first of the four choruses on 31st January 2004 in Symphony Hall Birmingham. The complete set was premiered by the Netherlands Radio Choir conducted by Simon Halsey in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam on the 24th April 2004. The UK premiere of he entire set was again given by Simon Halsey and the City Of Birmingham Symphony Chorus on the 26th May 2005.

Reynaldo Hahn’s Songs And Madrigals for three- and four-part choir. The time machine has no secrets for Reynaldo Hahn (1874-1947). After plunging his contemporaries into the delights of Renaissance revelry with the ‘Bal De Béatrice D'Este’ the composer continued to explore the past with a tribute in 1907 to Rameau (in the final drumroll of the ‘Sonatine’ for Piano). Brahms's deeply moving Alto Rhapsody is one of the glories of the choral repertoire. Though it was written as a wedding song for the daughter of his friend Clara Schumann, the work clearly seems a deeply personal one for Brahms. Perhaps, as some have suggested, a melancholy reflection on his own solitary life. This great concert favorite is based on portions of the text of Goethe's Harzreise im Winter (Winter Journey in the Harz Mountains), and set for alto solo, men's chorus, and orchestra. In addition to the Alto Rhapsody, this volume contains three other major Brahms choral works: the Song of Destiny, a setting of a poem by Hölderlin: Nänie, a dirge for Brahms's friend Anselm Feuerbach, set to a text by Schiller: and Song of the Fates, set to passages from Act IV of Goethe's Iphigenie auf Tauris. ?I asked my friend the poet Einar Askestad if he could write a poem for me about love between father and son brothers and God. I felt that these forms of love are seldom sung about. The poem moved me greatly and I have tried to put music to these words which is simple yet full of beauty. That has always been my motto and I have only tried to use music to express all the feelings life consists of. This has led people todescribe my music as both ?so sad that it sounds like birds who have lost their wings? and ?the happiest classical music we ever heard?. I have also always preferred beautiful music to atonal music and that is surely the reason why the most part of my music is more on the sad side but what a dream it would be to be able to create beautiful music that?s bubbling over with joy! My compositions consist of almost only sacral music. This is to express my own faith but also my appreciation and respect for the timeless texts that have been used for centuries after centuries.In 1994 I was lucky enough to start conducting the female choir Carmen and I conducted them until we decided to disunite 2010. This is of course the biggest reason why most of my compositions are for female choirs the knowledge that what I write during the night will be tested the next evening is a driving force that not so many are lucky enough to have.I work as a voice music theory and conducting teacher and conductor in Uppsala were I was born -65 and still live. On the great feast days the Magnificat was given at the evening service in Leipzig following the sermon. Bach twice set this poem (Luke I 46-55). One of these compositions for solo soprano has been lost. Of the other Magnificat Bach composed his first version In E-flat with four inserted Christmas pieces prepared for the evening service that holiday 1723. His revision of 1728-31 In D Major omitting the Christmas movements was intended for use on any major feast day.Bach composed the motets for special occasions probably for the birthdays funerals or memorial services of prominent Leipzig citizens.In this edition five of the six motets are scored for acappella chouus: Nos. 1 2 4 and 5 for double chorus (SATB/SATB) No. 3 for various combinations of three- four- and five-part voices. Motet 6 is scored for SATB and continuo.

Parry's Songs of Farewell were composed over the final decade of his life.
