Oboe, bassoon and piano - difficult SKU: HL.49016219 Composed by Benjamin...(+)
Oboe, bassoon and piano - difficult SKU: HL.49016219 Composed by Benjamin Schweitzer. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. Misc. Score (also performance score). Composed 2006. 73 pages. Duration 10'. Schott Music #ED 20121. Published by Schott Music (HL.49016219). ISBN 9790001146449. UPC: 884088202538. 9.0x12.0x0.195 inches. The chiaroscuro-technique developed by painters of the Italian renaissance served to intensify contrasts and effects of optical depth. In Klar/Obskur, I tried to transfer the general idea of this technique on the rather unusual instrumentation of two double-reed woodwinds and piano. On the one hand, a clear, well articulated playing is characteristic for these instruments, on the other hand, they have an often underestimated potential of 'twilight': air-sounds and fragile, shady colours have a especially attractive when being produced by double-reed instruments (which are often, and superficially regarded as being less capable of differentiated sounds than flute or clarinet). The piano, too, has a broad bandwidth of possibilities between percussive and delicate playing to complement the woodwinds which, in return, can absorb and continue the fading piano sounds. The beginning introduces the two contrasting elements that form the basic material for the piece: a clear, sharp chord, followed by fragile, dim sounds. The changes between these elements as well as their combination and amalgamation produce an enormous spectrum of colours and gesture. After this 'motto-like' opening follow four quite clearly separated short sections, each of them being characterised by a well-defined texture: a partly almost imperceptible air-sound passage, a short sequence of microintervallic notes, a burst of virtuosity and a recourse to the fragile sounds of the beginning. The second, longer main part consists of three sections merging subtly into each other: a short unisono-passage, marked elastic [federnd], is being dissolved into its basic elements; from these remainders, a confrontation of low, 'arcane' bassoon and piano sounds and a strongly ornamented melodic line of the oboe emerges, leading to a short but powerful climax. The piece is concluded by an extended, relaxed epilogue, containing a short piano solo and a duet of oboe and bassoon and, finally, a quotation of the 'elastic' character of the middle section.Benjamin Schweitzer. $40.00 - See more - Buy online

Published by LudwigMasters Publications (AP.36-60402001). ISBN 9798888521939. UPC: 676737573621. English. Trio Pour Hautbois, Basson, et Piano (Trio for Oboe, Bassoon, and Piano), FP 43, was composed by Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) between 1924 and 1926, and it is his first major chamber work. A slow writer, the young Poulenc eventually sequestered himself away from family and friends in a hotel in Cannes so that he could finish the work, although he was happy to entertain a visiting Igor Stravinsky who offered some advice (quelques bons conseils) that Poulenc then applied to the first movement. The Trio is dedicated to Manuel de Falla, and the delighted Spanish composer saw to the premiere, which took place at the Salle des Agriculteurs in Paris on May 2, 1926, Poulenc at the piano. It was well received at the premiere, has been recorded many times since, and has remained a regular part of the woodwind ensemble repertoire. Reprint edition. These products are currently being prepared by a new publisher. While many items are ready and will ship on time, some others may see delays of several months. $14.99 - See more - Buy online

Published by Subito Music Corporation (SU.50600012). Duration: 15' Performing Materials: score and parts Published by: Dunsinane Music Publishing Composer's Note: A fancy is an English version of the Italian capriccio, a form introduced in the 16th century for works in various media wherein the force of imagination has better success than observation of the rules of art (Furetière, Dictionnaire universel). The term is also used to describe a suite of dances. Fred’s Fancies is a series of six dances that are quite capricious in nature, a fair portrait of the person to whom the work is dedicated. The suite’s musical material is introduced in the first movement, an athletic Allegro. The following four movements emphasize some aspect of the first. The second, Waltz, is a quiet variation of the first movement’s opening gesture. The third, Manic, combines the opening gesture with a secondary theme emphasizing descending perfect fourths separated by half-steps. The fourth movement, Arioso, re-visits themes from the Waltz, now set in a freer rhythm. The fifth, Favotte, combines elements of the gavotte with fugal episodes. The cycle culminates in a speedy final movement, Vivace, that brings back the all principal themes of cycle. $50.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

for Woodwind Quintet-These two extraordinary works of late Mozart KV 594 and KV 608 were both composed to fulfill a commission for a memorial exhibit in Vienna to be played in a “mechanical clock organ.” The term “fantasy” or“fantasia” came to be affixed to these works later and is more descriptive and less cumbersome than the term Mozart listed in his own catalogue “Ein Stüke für ein Orgelwerk in ein Uhr.” They are also variouslytitled “Adagio und Allegro in f für ein Orgelwerk” and “Allegro und Andante (Fantasie in f) für eine Orgelwaltze.”The first of these composed between the monumental String Quintet in D and the Piano Concertoin Bb KV 595 is an A-B-A form comprised of an f minor Adagio opening and closing with a contrapuntal Allegro at its heart. KV 608 is more complicated opening with an f minor section reminiscent of a French Overture followed by a fugue in fminor then an Andante aria followed by a return to the opening and then a more complex version of the fugue.Despite the frustration that Mozart expressed (in a letter to Constanze) with the sound world of these mechanical devices KV 594and 608 are remarkable works which stand at an intersection incorporating what he learned about counterpoint studying at the foot of Bach while looking ahead to the emotional and harmonic poignancy of Schubert.

Programme Note WHIRLS´ WORLD (1970) for wind quintet. 'Whirl´s World' was composed in 1970 as one of a series of works which explored the so-called musical ´difference-phenomenon´. This term (which I coined in connection with a series of lectures in California that year) indicates a motivic duplicity in which two - often very simple - melodic ideas come ´out of phrase´ with each other giving rise to a course of constantly changing conditions. In Whirl´s World the difference phenomenon is heard from the beginning where a three-note motif and a four-note motif are set against each other. It all proceeds lake a lightning-fast series of chess moves; first notenumber 1 of the three-note motif is moved then note number 1 of the four-note motif thereafter note number 2 of the three-note motif - and so on. This fast opening flows into a slow section in which the differences now appear as ´fluctuations´ between very closely related tones (of which one is sung by the musician). There is only one movement built up as an organic growth from slow to furiously fast whirling and back again to slow which can be heard as ´slow-motion whirls´ as a water-world of ripples and bubbles. All this is framed by the introduction described above and a corresponding conclusion in which the movement is now descending ending in the resolute bass full-stop. Per Norgård
