The music does however appear to be pervaded with memories wisdom ofexperience and old dreams of the inevitability of transitoriness and parting.

The first performance of ?Má vlast? as a six-part symphonic cycle took place on 5 November 1882. With the founding of the Czech Philharmonic in 1896 this work received a far greater reception. Since 1952 the music festival ?Prague Spring? has opened with this complete cycle.

This edition is based on the ?Study Edition of the Works of Bedrich Smetana?, vol. 14, supplemented by an up-to-date detailed foreword about the genesis and history of the work by Marta Ottlová.

Par DUFOURT HUGUES. Il s'agit d'une oeuvre particulièrement représentative du genre de peinture qui a pris son essor pendant le Xe et XIe siècles sous le règne de la dynastie des Song du Nord (960-1127) et qui place la peinture chinoise sous le signe de l'unité retrouvée. Le style 'nordiste', inauguré par Ching Hao et Kuan T'ung se trouve porté à son point de tension extrême par Fan K'uan (fl. 990-1020) dont le Voyage par-delà les fleuves et les monts figure et résume la peinture des grands maîtres classiques de cette époque. L'art du trait calligraphique s'applique au traitement des parois et des surfaces, tout comme les rides en goutte d'eau servent à renforcer les effets de hauteur. Il existe, dans cette toile, une certaine contradiction entre l'éloignement des choses et le caractère abrupt d'un mur primordial qui s'impose avec une évidence absolue. On voit une imposante falaise rocheuse s'arracher d'un abîme et s'élancer jusqu'au ciel, comme un surgissement de l'inaccessible, surplombant un paysage escarpé que vient encore aiguiser le relief âpre et tourmenté de la végétation du premier plan. A la verticale, une broussaille de forêts lointaines semble agrippée aux sommets. Sur la droite, la chute vertigineuse d'une cascade tombant des hauteurs se déroule comme un ruban de soie. En avant-plan, un groupe de rochers laisse entr'apercevoir, plus bas, une caravane de mules dont le trait presqu'imperceptible laisse pressentir l'insignifiance de l'être humain face à l'immensité de la nature. On notera aussi le style sévère et dépouillé de ce paysage majestueux, son allure austère et solennelle qui souligne le caractère sacré des montagnes - la demeure des dieux - dans la peinture monumentale de paysage des Song du Nord. L'altitude est le véritable personnage de cette oeuvre célèbre, une peinture sur soie, d'encre et de couleurs légères, qui est conservée au Musée national du Palais de Taipei, à Taïwan. J'ai cherché à rendre ce sentiment plénier de la nature au grand orchestre, en sorte que l'articulation du souffle ne soit jamais interrompue par des notations accidentelles ou des velléités de développement. La pièce se déroule d'un seul tenant, comme une trame élémentaire, à l'image d'une continuité où toute interruption est arbitraire. Elle est parcourue d'un seul rythme enveloppant des tensions opposées - ascension et suspens, émergence et pesanteur. Une association instrumentale y domine, celle du pupitre des clarinettes allié à celui des trombones, avec des modes de jeu qui projettent les trombones dans l'extrême grave et diffractent le son de la clarinette en un tremblement de multiphoniques. Deux compositeurs, Ivàn Solano, clarinettiste, et Dominique Delahoche, tromboniste, ont bien voulu me guider dans cet inventaire des nouvelles ressources instrumentales. Il est difficile de parler de la forme de l'oeuvre, puisqu'il s'agit d'une transformation incessante, constitutive, à l'instar d'une forme-flux sans cesse renaissante et tendue vers un perpétuel effort d'intégration et de condensation. La forme n'est plus qu'une puissance obscure et négative qui se confond avec le rythme de la couleur ou de la masse. Une toile de fond 'd'harmonie-timbre', constamment dressée, suggère l'étendue et la profondeur, et figure, si l'on veut, une sorte de fond spatial qui serait l'espace même du paysage. Les seuls événements qui scandent le processus sont des 'coulées de forces' qui excèdent toute limite définie et suggèrent des régimes dynamiques variés. Richard Rodney Bennet’s Symphony No. 3 commissioned for the 1987 Three Choirs Festival by the Elgar Foundation with additional funds from West Midlands Arts is now published in a facsimile study score.In contrast with his first two symphonies which were rather extrovert display pieces Symphony No. 3 is quite thoughtful and lyrical in nature more or less monothematic and has a strong feeling of tonality particularly at the opening and closing of the score. The more moderate orchestration (2 Flutes Oboe Cor Anglais 2 Clarinets in B flat Bassoon 2 Horns in F Percussion 1 (small Triangle Tam-tam 3 suspendedCymbals) Percussion 2 (side Drum tubular Bells) Timpani Piano Harp and Strings) also reflects this. Performance time of the three movements is ca. 22 minutes.Sir Richard Rodney Bennett was an English composer of film TV and concert music and also a jazz pianist. He was based in New York City from 1979 until his death there in 2012.

According to his dating of the autograph Haydn composed the Symphony no. 89 in F major in 1787 just one year after the six so-called Paris symphonies. It was written together with its sister work the G-major Symphony no. 88 for the violinist Johann Tost who sold it to the Parisian publisher Sieber. In both works Haydn continues the compositional achievements of the Paris symphonies: mastery of orchestration richness of musical ideas and details and an idiosyncratic multicoloured use of the wind section (which still makes do without Clarinets). In contrast to the buoyant G-major symphony the F-major symphony possesses a ratherpastoral sweet character which in parts can nevertheless soar to dramatic heights. This study edition reproduces the musical text of the Haydn Complete Edition which is a guarantor of the finest scholarship. An informative preface and a brief critical report make this handy score an ideal companion for all Haydn fans both present and future.

George Butterworth was born in London on July 12th 1885 to a well-to-do family. Eton School was followed by university at Trinity College Oxford where he met Vaughan Williams and Cecil Sharp. He taught for a while at Radley studied for a short time at the Royal College of Music then concentrated more or less full time on collecting folk songs sometimes with Vaughan Williams. When the First World War started in 1914 he joined the Durham Light Infantry as a Lieutenant. In the trenches he was mentioned in dispatches for outstanding courage and won the Military Cross. He led a successful raid on August 15th 1916 in the Battle of the Somme but during the raidButterworth was killed by a sniper's bullet.Much of his music is influenced by folk-song. The idyll 'Banks of Green Willow' is one of his best works and perfectly captures the nature of the English countryside. This sheet music for Mozart’s G minor Symphony No 40 First Movement includes the instrumental parts and Piano accompaniment with parts for Violin 3 clarinets Alto and Tenor Saxophone. It has been slightly modified to accommodate the abilities of student or amateur Orchestras by K. W. Rokes. One of the touchstones of the classical repertoire Mozart’s Symphony No 40 in G minor was written over a very few weeks in Vienna in 1788 at the end of the composer’s tragically short life. Having turned away from composition in the symphonic form for some years Mozart returned to it with a creative fury that summer composing the three great and eternal symphonies Nos 39 40and 41 in a white heat of creative outpouring. Symphony No 40 is the only one of the three in a minor key allowing its classical elegance and beauty to be interwoven with drama and emotion.

Symphony in Bb major Hob. I:102-The twelve London Symphonies??? comprise the sublime final statement of Haydn???s symphonic ??uvre. They were written for the London impresario Johann Peter Salomon and Haydn himself conducted their premieres during his lengthy stays in the English metropolis in 1791/92 and 1794/95. The energetic surging B-flat-major Symphony no. 102 belongs to the group of the last three symphonies premiered in early 1795. Exceptionally Haydn here dispenses with the clarinets that are otherwise generally featured in his late symphonies. The instrumentation of the Adagio is also unusual in that Haydn includes trumpets and timpani both muted. This study edition adopts the musical text of theHaydn Complete Edition thereby guaranteeing the highest scholarly quality.
