Gelobet seist du Jesu Christ (We Praise You Jesus Christ) is an old Christmas hymn dating from the 16th century, which can still be found in many hymnbooks today. John Blanken has created a varied and imaginative arrangement on four verses of the hymn. After the introduction, derived from the opening notes, the hymn is first accompanied by an agile harmonisation. Next, we hear the chorale in a four-part setting with a percussion accompaniment. Then follows a short prologue to the third verse and finally its time for fireworks as the arrangement takes a stylistic leap in time with the festive prelude to the fourth and last verse.

The famous Barcarolle from Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann opens the fourth act of the opera, which takes place in Venice. For this reason Offenbach chose a barcarolle - a Venetian gondolier song with its characteristic swaying rhythm. Wil van der Beek’s arrangement gives this romantic song an alternative, lighter beginning, making it suitable for almost any wind orchestra.

This number topped the U.S. chart as the lead release single from Bad. Siedah Garrett, who sang the duet, was a protégé of Quincy Jones with whom Michael tag-teamed for three solos on Off the Wall. (Garrett is also renowned as one of the writers of the song Man in the Mirror,â? the fourth single which carries a strong message.) Japanese fans still remember this song being performed as an encore during the Bad World Tour in 1987. The straightforward, sweet love song starts out quietly and gradually takes on heat, unfolding a wonderful musical sentiment. Dämonen (Ein Kinderlied) – English: Demons (A Children's Song) – by Arnulf Herrmann is a 21-minute work for orchestra and a record with the children's song Die Blümelein, sie schlafen (The little flowers are sleeping). On it, white noise and historical fragments of this song, preserved in various versions, can be heard. The recording is interwoven with the orchestra, sets the tempo and, not least, provides the timeframe by limiting it to the duration of one record side. But the end is only technical: The needle lifts, but the song is not over.
The premiere took place on 16 October 2022 at the Donaueschinger Musiktage, with the SWR Symphony Orchestra conducted by Bas Wiegers.
The full score (EP 14634) is available for sale as part of the Peters Contemporary Library. The performance material can be hired.

Rihards Dubra (born Latvia, 1964) wrote his Symphony No. 2 in 2014. It is a large-scale work, over 30 minutes long, in three movements (titled 'Visio', 'Cantus', 'Et vidi...'), for large orchestra comprising triple wind and brass, percussion and harp.
Speaking of symphonic writing, the composer says: 'I don't think a symphony should speak about small, everyday things and issues; it should speak of global, fundamental and substantial things. Only then does it justify the name 'symphony'. It must be something serious.'
This full score (EP 73404) is now available as part of the Peters Baltic Library.

This new piece from composer George Sweet is a delightful combination of Scotland the Brave and Amazing Grace. Each tune on its own is wonderful, but in Sweet's setting, they are masterfully layered to reflect the composer's Scottish-American heritage. This presentation of a Scottish melody with Americana-inspired harmonies is a stunning example of compositional craft.Bravery and Grace is a setting of the unofficial Scottish national anthem, Scotland the Brave. While the melody is taken from Scotland the Brave, the accompaniment and harmony both have a “Western Americana†feel, reminiscent of composers like Roy Harris and Aaron Copland.  This combination of a Scottish melody with American harmony is a reflection of the composer’s Scottish-American Heritage. The piece begins with a fragment of Scotland the Brave presented in a lush and reflective context. The main theme is performed in full by the upper voices at m. 9. The middle voices perform the material at m. 17, and the lower voices perform it again at m. 33. This results in a loud passage representing pipers at m. 46. The traditional spiritual Amazing Grace appears suddenly at m. 51 in a somewhat polytonal setting. This is, once again, reminiscent of practices of the aforementioned American composers.  After this lyrical presentation, a fragment of the main theme returns at m. 66. This is followed by a broad restatement of the theme at m. 70 and a brisk conclusion with a final flair of polytonality.
