This work was commissioned by the All Japan Band Association (Chiba Prefecture) to commemorate their 45th anniversary. The composer, Satoshi Yagisawa, was requested to write a march that was easy enough for junior high school students to play, and was based on the folk songs in Chiba Prefecture. After several months of research the composer finally discovered Boushu Oiwake, a lyrical folk song sung with the Japanese bamboo flute and shamisen (three-stringed Japanese instrument). After the composition process has been completed we have here a fantastic triumphant march sure to ?raise the roof? at any performance.

Dit werk is gebaseerd op de volksmuziek uit de Chiba-prefectuur. Aanvankelijk was het erg moeilijk om een geschikt volkslied te vinden voor een mars, maar na een aantal maanden zoeken ontdekte de componist Boushu Oiwake, eenlyrisch volkslied voor zang, de Japanse bamboefluit en de shamisen (een Japans instrument met drie snaren). Hij bouwde de mars op volgens zijn eigen muzikale ideeën met als basis het betreffende volkslied. De expressie varieert,afhankelijk van de tempi en de interpretaties van passages. Geef uw orkest de mogelijkheid om een unieke uitvoering van March-Bou-Shu te geven.

Der japanische Komponist Satoshi Yagisawa kreierte March-Bou- Shu in seiner eigenen Tonsprache, unter Verwendung eines Volksliedes aus seiner Heimat, dem Regierungsbezirk Chiba. Die Aufführung des Stückes gewinnt durch die Auslotung der ursprünglichen Spielweise des Liedes. Die verschiedenen Spielweisen variieren je nach Tempo und Interpretation einzelner Passagen und erlauben Ihrem Blasorchester ganz individuelle Spielweisen zu entwickeln.

Trouver une mélodie traditionnelle qui puisse convenir au style d’une marche ne fut pas chose facile. Après plusieurs mois de recherches, le compositeur découvre finalement la mélodie Boushu Oiwake, un chant traditionnel extrêmement mélodieux accompagné par une fl te en bambou et un shamisen (luth trois cordes). March-Bou-Shu trouve son sens dans l’expression musicale propre au compositeur. Votre interprétation trouvera son originalité dans le choix des tempi et l’expressivité des passages.

Non è facile trovare una melodia tradizionale adatta allo stile di una marcia. Dopo parecchi mesi di ricerca, il compositore scopre la melodia Boushu Oiwake, un canto tradizionale molto melodioso accompagnato da un flauto in bambu e da un shamisen (liuto a tre corde). March-Bou-Shu riflette lo stile musicale caratteristico del compositore. La scelta dei tempi e l’espressivit dei passaggi da parte degli esecutori dar un’impronta originale alla composizione.

The Ukrainian Bell Carol is part of a large choral work entitled Shchedryk by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Dmytrovich Leontovych (1877-1921). It was first performed by students of Kiev University in December 1916. The tune is an adaptation of an old ‘shchedrivka’, a song traditionally sung on Ukrainian New Year’s Eve (January 13th) which hopes for good fortune in the year to come. In Shchedryk, Leontovych added his own the lyrics which concern the legend claiming that when Jesus was born, all the bells on earth started ringing in his honour.The tune has since been the inspiration of at least four different Christmas carols, but Philip Sparke has sourced the originalUkrainian melody to create this stirring arrangement.

De Ukrainian Bell Carol is onderdeel van het grote koorwerk Shchedryk van de Oekra ense componist Mykola Dmytrovich Leontovych (1877-1921). De melodie is gebaseerd op een ‘shchedrivka’, een lied dat van oudsher werdgezongen op de Oekra ense oudejaarsavond (13 januari). In Shchedryk voegde Leontovych de tekst toe over de legende die vertelt dat bij de geboorte van Jezus alle klokken op aarde begonnen te luiden. Sindsdien is deze melodiede inspiratiebron geweest voor ten minste vier verschillende Christmas carols, waarvan Carol of the Bells de beroemdste is. Voor dit meeslepende arrangement heeft Philip Sparke echter de oorspronkelijke Oekra ense melodiegebruikt.

Leontovych ergänzte ein traditionelles ukrainisches Neujahrslied um eine alte Legende, die besagt, dass zu Ehren von Jesu Geburt alle Glocken läuteten. Die Melodie diente inzwischen als Grundlage für mindestens vier verschiedene Weihnachtslieder. Philip Sparke griff für seine bewegende Bearbeitung jedoch auf die originale ukrainische Melodie zurück.

Ukrainian Bell Carol constitue une des parties de l’œuvre chorale Shchedryk du compositeur ukrainien Mykola Dmytrovich Leontovich (1877-1921). La mélodie s’inspire d’un vieux chant traditionnel ukrainien (shchedrivka) chanté le Jour de l’An (célébré le 13 janvier, conformément au calendrier julien) dans l’espoir que l’année venir se présente sous de bons hospices. l’écriture de Shchedryk, Mykola Leontovich a choisi de changer les paroles. Il opte pour la légende selon laquelle, toutes les cloches des églises se sont mises carillonner joyeusement pour annoncer la naissance de Jésus. La mélodie du chant a inspiré au moins quatre noëlsdifférents. Carol of the Bells en est la version la plus célèbre. Elle a été adaptée en 1936 (texte et mélodie) par Peter J. Wilhousky (1902-1978) d’après la version originale de Mykola Leontovich. Philip Sparke s’est basé sur la mélodie du chant traditionnel ukrainien pour réaliser cet arrangement brillant et pétillant.

Towards the Future was commissioned by the Nagoya City Fire Bureau for the 50th anniversary of the Nagoya City Fire Bureau Band (Nagoya, Japan). It was premiered by the band on 7 February 2009, conducted by Masuo Nakamura. This concert march was conceived to lift up the spirits of the firemen who save people’s lives. The solemn and heart-warming melodies express their braveness when faced with danger and the tenderness shown towards the people they protect.It is an ideal march to open a concert and to inspire both performers and audience.

Towards the Future is geschreven in opdracht van de Nagoya City Fire Bureau Band (Nagoya, Japan) ter gelegenheid van het vijftigjarig bestaan van het orkest. Het werk is tot stand gekomen met financiële steun van het NagoyaCity Fire Bureau. De première vond op 7 februari 2009 plaats onder leiding van Masuo Nakamura.Deze concertmars is gecomponeerd met de intentie om de brandweerlieden, die telkens weer het leven van burgers redden, een hart onder deriem te steken. De plechtige en hartverwarmende melodieën verklanken moed in gevaarlijke omstandigheden en de toewijding aan de mensen die worden beschermd.De mars is ideaal om een concert mee te openen en zowel muzikanten als publiekin de stemming te brengen.

Towards the Futurewurde von der Nagoya City Bureau Band (Blasorchester der Städtischen Feuerwehr Nagoya, Japan) in Auftrag gegeben. Anlass zu diesem von der Städtischen Feuerwehr Nagoya unterstützten Werk war das 150-jährige Jubiläum dieses Orchesters, welches am 7.Februar 2009 unter der Leitung von Masuo Nakamura die Uraufführung spielte.Dieser Konzertmarsch wurde zur Ermutigung der Feuerwehrleute geschrieben, die Menschenleben retten. Die feierlichen, herzergreifenden Melodien beschreiben den Mut der Feuerwehrleute, den sie im Angesicht von Gefahr beweisen, und ihre Fürsorglichkeit gegenüber den Menschen, die sie beschützen.Mit diesem Marsch kann man sehr gutein Konzert eröffnen und die Stimmung von Musikern als auch Zuhörenden heben.

Towards the Future (Vers l’avenir) est une commande de l’Orchestre d’Harmonie des Pompiers de la ville de Nagoya, au Japon, l’occasion des festivités marquant le cinquantième anniversaire de la création de la formation. La première mondiale a eu lieu le 7 février 2009. Elle fut assurée par la formation dédicataire, placée sous la direction de Masuo Nakamura.Cette marche de concert a été composée pour stimuler le moral des pompiers, qui consacrent leur existence sauver des vies. Les lignes mélodiques de l’oeuvre, solennelles et apaisantes, reflètent non seulement leur bravoure lorsqu’ils se trouvent confrontés au danger, mais également la bienveillance qu’ils manifestentenvers les personnes qu’ils protègent. Idéale en ouverture de concert, cette marche inspirera entrain et gaieté ses interprètes et leur auditoire.

Questa marcia da concerto è stata composta in onore, ma anche per incoraggiare e sostenere i vigili del fuoco che salvano le vite dei cittadini, spesso mettendo a rischio la propria incolumit . Le melodie solenni e commoventi al contempo descrivono il coraggio di questi uomini davanti al pericolo e vogliono sottolineare la tenerezza e la dedizione nei confronti delle persone che sono chiamati a salvare.

Five States of Change was commissioned by Kunstfactor for the 4th section of the Dutch National Brass Band Championships (NBK) 2011. It is dedicated to Jappie Dijkstra and the Music Information Centre (MUI), Arnhem, Holland, in acknowledgement of their outstanding work in developing band repertoire.The composer writes: The idea for the piece came when I was reading an article about a branch of Chinese philosophy which is abbreviated as Wu Xing*, which has no exact translation but can mean, for example, five elements, five phases or five states of change. It is central to all elements of Chinese thought, including science, philosophy, medicine andastrology, and in simple terms tries to create various cyclic relationships between five elements in all walks of life.An example is: Earth - Metal - Water - Wood - Fire - (Earth) etc. where (in one cycle) earth bears metal, metal changes to liquid (water) when heated, water helps trees grow, wood burns to create fire, fire produces ash (earth) and the cycle continues.I was particularly interested in the cycle of emotions:- Meditation - Sorrow - Fear - Anger - Joy - (Meditation) etc. and thought this cyclic principle would provide an effective emotional journey for a piece of music. So Five States of Change has five equal sections which loosely characterise this emotional cycle. I have tried to make the music grow organically, with minimal repetition, and each movement evolves from the musical elements at the end of the previous one, with the opening material appearing, transformed, at the end of the piece to complete the cycle. *in full Wu zhong liu xing zhi chi or the five types of chi dominating at different times

Het werk is opgedragen aan Jappie Dijkstra en het MUI (Muziekuitleen- en Informatiecentrum)te Arnhem,als waardering voor hun inspanningen met betrekking tot de ontwikkeling van het repertoire voor blaasorkesten.De componist schrijft: Het idee voor het werk kwam in mij op toen ik een artikel las over een takbinnen de Chinese filosofie waarvan denaam wordt afgekort tot Wu Xing* - waar geen exacte vertaling voor is, maar wat zoveel betekent als vijf elementen, vijf fasen of vijf stadia van verandering. Het gaat om eenwezenlijk onderdeel van alle componenten binnen hetChinese gedachtegoed, inclusief de wetenschap, filosofie, geneeskunst en astrologie. Simpel gezegd draait het om het creëren van diverse cyclische verbanden tussen vijf elementendie in ieders leven een rol spelen.Een voorbeeld: Aarde - Metaal - Water- Hout - Vuur - (Aarde) enz. In deze cyclus bevat aarde metaal, metaal verandert in vloeistof (water) door verhitting, water helpt bomen te groeien, houtdat brandt creëert vuur, en vuur produceert as (aarde). Zo blijft de cyclus voortgaan. Zelf wasik vooral ge nteresseerd in de cyclus van emoties: Meditatie - Verdriet - Angst - Boosheid - Vreugde - (Meditatie) enz. De gedachte aandit cyclische principe leverde een reis door een muzikale wereld van emoties op. Five States of Changebestaat uit vijf delen die betrekking hebben op de emotionele cyclus. Ik heb geprobeerd de muziek op natuurlijke wijzete laten ontstaan, met zo weinig mogelijk herhalingen. Elk deel vloeit voort uit de muzikale elementen uit het slot van hetvoorgaande deel. Het openingsmateriaal komt, in getransformeerde gedaante, terug aan het einde van het werk.

Die Widmung gilt Jappie Dijkstra und dem Musik-Informationszentrum (MUI) in Arnhem(Holland), in Anerkennung derer außerordentlichen Bemühungen um die Entwicklung des Blasorchester-Repertoires. Der Komponist über sein Werk: Die Idee zu diesem Stück kam mir beim Lesen eines Artikels über eine Richtung derchinesischen Philosophie, die abgekürzt Wu Xing* heißt, was nicht wörtlich übersetzt werden kann, aber so viel wie fünf Elemente, fünf Phasen oder fünf Stadien der Verwandlung bedeutet. DiesesPrinzip nimmt eine zentrale Position im gesamten chinesischen Gedankengut ein, sei es in der Wissenschaft, Medizin oder Astrologie. Einfach ausgedrückt, werden damit in allen Lebensbereichen verschiedene zyklische Beziehungen zwischenfünf Elementen hergestellt.Zum Beispiel: Erde - Metall - Wasser - Holz - Feuer - (Erde) - usw. Five States of Change est une commande de l’institut Kunstfactor pour la 4e division des Championnats néerlandais de Brass Band en 2011. Cette œuvre est dédiée Jappie Dijkstra et au Music Information Centre (MUI) d’Arnhem, aux Pays-Bas, en hommage leur rôle exceptionnel dans le développement du répertoire pour Orchestre Vent.Le compositeur écrit : L’idée de cette composition m’est venue alors que je lisais un article sur un aspect de la philosophie chinoise, connu sous l’abréviation de Wu Xing*, qu’il est impossible de traduire littéralement mais qui peut signifier, par exemple, cinq éléments, cinq phases ou cinq états de changement. Toutechose dans l’univers est le fruit d’un cycle de création (ou d’engendrement) et de domination (ou contrôle). Ce concept est essentiel tous les éléments de la pensée chinoise, y compris les sciences, la philosophie, la médecine et l’astrologie et, en termes simples, il représente les multiples rapports cycliques qui existent entre cinq éléments liés l’univers et toute chose dans l’univers, donc l’homme.Évoquons le cycle de la création : Terre - Métal - Eau - Bois - Feu - (Terre) etc. La terre contient des minéraux, source de métal, le métal peut être fondu et se liquéfie, l’eau arrose et fait pousser les arbres, le bois br le et produit du feu, le feu produit des cendres, une sorte de terre, dans une dynamique cyclique perpétuelle.Parmi tous les cycles existants, celui des émotions éveilla particulièrement mon intérêt : Méditation - Chagrin - Peur - Colère - Joie - (Méditation) etc. et je me suis dit que ce principe cyclique pourrait être la source d’un puissant et émotionnel voyage musical. Five States of Change se compose donc de cinq parties égales qui reflètent assez librement ce cycle des émotions. J’ai essayé de faire en sorte que la musique se développe de manière fluide et naturelle, avec un minimum de répétitions. L’idea di comporre questo brano è venuta a Philip Sparke leggendo un articolo sulla filosofi a cinese che si basa su cicli di cinque elementi, fasi e stadi di cambiamento. A Sparke interessavano in particolare il flusso dei sentimenti come la meditazione, il lutto, la paura, la rabbia e la gioia. A partire da questi elementi ha composto un impressionante “viaggio” musicale suddiviso in cinque sezioni, tematicamente intrecciate tra loro, quasi a voler formare un cerchio.

Second to None is a perfectly suitable title for this work, though it actually refers to “Nulli Secundus”, the motto of the British Corps of Army Music, who gave the commission to Philip Sparke. The piece opens with a fanfare, followed by two short quotes from two of the Corp’s own marches and a festive Vivace. A more legato central section creates a nice contrast before the work closes with the opening fanfare. A perfect affair!

De titel Second to None past heel goed bij dit werk, maar verwijst eigenlijk naar ‘Nulli Secundus’, het motto van British Army Corps of Music, het orkest dat Philip Sparke de opdracht voor dit werk gaf. Second to None opent met een fanfare. Daarna volgen twee korte citaten uit twee van de eigen marsen van het orkest en een feestelijke Vivace. Een meer legato deel creëert een mooi contrast voordat het werk wordt afgesloten met de openingsfanfare. Van begin tot einde prachtig!

Second to None (Unübertroffen“) wurde zum 20-jährigen Jubiläum der britischen Armee komponiert. Das feierliche Werk honoriert die musikalische Tradition des Corps, indem es auf einige seiner eigenen berühmten Märsche, wie beispielsweise The Corps of Army Music Slow March (Greg Machin) und The Music Makers (Ian Mitchell), anspielt. Second to None kann auch in einer kürzeren Fassung gespielt werden und ist ein ideales Erönungsstück für jedes festliche Konzert.

Second to None est un titre qui convient parfaitement ce morceau, même s’il fait en fait référence « Nulli Secundus », la devise du British Corps of Army Music, l'orchestre qui a fait la commande auprès de Philip Sparke. La pièce commence par une fanfare, suivie de deux citations courtes de deux de leurs propres marches, et un Vivace festif. Une section plus legato crée un beau contraste avant la fin où la fanfare du début est répétée. Parfait !

Second to None (Secondo a nessuno) è un titolo perfetto per questo lavoro, anche se in realt si riferisce a “Nulli Secundus”, il motto del British Corps of Army Music, che lo ha commissionato a Philip Sparke. Il brano si apre con una fanfara, seguita da due brevi citazioni, prese da due delle marce del Corpo e da un gioioso Vivace. Una sezione centrale, che da più spazio al legato, crea un piacevole contrasto con la fanfara iniziale prima della chiusura del brano. Un connubio perfetto!

The source (sauce!) of inspiration for this work was somewhat unusual. Whilst on tour with a youth brass group, Kazys Daugėla ate a Piri-Piri salad that had a wickedly hot sauce. He jokingly told his fellow band members that one day he would write a piece to celebrate this mouth watering experience. The result was this Hot and Spicy piece garnished with a light mambo rhythm!

Een piripirisalade van scherpe pepertjes! Dat was de nogal ongewone inspiratiebron voor Daugela om dit werk te componeren. Bij het proeven van het behoorlijk pittige gerecht 'smeekte' de componist om een middel waarmee hij de pittigheidkon verminderen. Dat kon hij krijgen, als hij beloofde een nieuwe compositie te schrijven. Zo gezegd, zo gedaan: Daugela kreeg eenvoudigweg olie. En dit energieke, doch gemakkelijk speelbare werk in mamboritme? Dat was zijntegenprestatie. Een smaakvol geschenk waarvan nu ook uw blaasorkest kan 'proeven'!

Ein Piri-Piri-Salat mit scharfen Pfefferschoten, der dem Komponisten bei einer Party mit einem Jugendblasorchester serviert worden war, wurde zur ungewöhnlichen Inspirationsquelle zu diesem Stück. Daugėla musste den jungen Musikern für ein Mittel zur Linderung der Schärfe eine neue Komposition versprechen. Das Mittel war simples Salatöl und dieses pfeffrige, leicht spielbare Stück im Mambo-Rhythmus ist das Resultat des Handels, von dem nun jedes Blasorchester profitieren kann!

Le piri piri est un piment plein de feu originaire d'Angola et adopté par les Portugais, qui l’utilisent pour épicer presque tous les plats. Surpris par le piquant (hot) de ce petit piment dont il faut user avec beaucoup de modération, Kazys Daugéla en eut le souffle coupé mais s’en inspira pour composer cette petite œuvre pimentée (spicy).

Il piri piri è una spezia molto piccante originaria dell’Angola e utilizzata in Portogallo per condire molti piatti. Sorpreso dal sapore piccante (hot) di questo piccolo peperoncino, da gustare con molta moderazione, il piri piri, pur causando un gradevole disagio al compositore, lo ha ispirato a mporre questo brano molto speziato.

Jan Van der Roost and the commissioner of this work have strong personal ties, making By the River a very personal work for both of them. The first part is pastoral and describes the rural character of what is actually an industrial region. The next movement, a dynamic allegro that creates an exciting contrast to the first. All instruments are put to good use, letting everyone have their moment in the limelight. All the interesting thematic and melodic elements Van der Roost creates will keep the audience engaged through to the very last note!

De opdrachtgever van dit werk is op meerdere wijze verbonden aan de componist. Hierdoor is By the River een zeer persoonlijk en indrukwekkend werk geworden. Het eerste deel heeft het karakter van een pastorale en beschrijfthet landelijke karakter van een - in basis - industrieel gebied. In sterk contrast daarop volgt een dynamisch allegro met toespelingen op Leonard Bernstein. Alle registers van het moderne blaasorkest komen aan hun trekken in Bythe River. By the River (Près de la rivière) est une oeuvre que Jan van der Roost affectionne tout particulièrement. Latin ABC is a suite in three movements inspired by the music of the Caribbean. The first movement is a joyful Curaçaon waltz, the second movement a sensual, slow salsa: a style that is popular on the island of Bonaire. Finally, Latin ABC culminates with a rousing march that brings the listener to sunny Aruba. This work is suitable for Grade 3 players, and showcases the percussion section in particular.

Zu Latin ABC lie� sich Peter Kleine Schaars von karibischen Klängen inspirieren: Der erste Satz ist ein fröhlicher Walzer im Curaçao-Feeling, der zweite Satz ein sinnlicher, langsamer Salsa. Seinen Höhepunkt erreicht das Stück mit einem mitrei�enden Stra�enmarsch, das den Zuhörer auf die Insel Aruba entführt. Dies alles findet im Rahmen einer gut spielbaren Komposition im mittleren Schwierigkeitsgrad statt, in der das Schlagzeug eine wichtige Rolle spielt.

Peter Kleine Schaars sâ??est inspiré de lâ??ambiance musicale de trois îles des Antilles néerlandaises - Aruba, Bonaire et Curaçao - pour écrire cette suite en trois mouvements. Latin ABC sâ??ouvre par une valse allègre, où sâ??entrelacent un thème en 3/4 et un autre en 6/8. Le second mouvement apportera une touche traditionnelle avec une salsa lente et sensuelle. La pièce culmine avec une marche entraînante qui emmène lâ??auditeur au soleil dâ??Aruba. Le tout se déroule dans les limites dâ??une composition de niveau 3 où les percussions jouent un rôle important.

Latin ABC apre con un allegro valzer che intreccia sapientemente un tema in 3/4 e uno in 6/8. Il secondo movimento apporta un tocco tradizionale con una salsa lenta e sensuale. Il brano prosegue con una marcia coinvolgente che accompagna il pubblico al sole di Aruba. Un brano che regala un ruolo importante alle percussioni.

Singapore Rhapsody is an exciting work in two movements based on popular Malaysian folksongs. The songs that occur in the first movement are Rasa Sayang eh (a love song), Gelang Sipaku Gelang (a song about community spirit), Suriram (a song about a girl proclaiming her virtues) and Di-Tanjung Katong (a love song that takes place at the Cape Katong on the southeast coast of Singapore). The second movement features Lenggang Kangkung, which literally means “The swaying of the watercress,” Katang Lompat (a moralistic song about the symbolism of the frog) and finally Kenek kenek-lah Udang (a wedding song). Each movement of this enchanting work can be performed separately but acomplete performance will be the crowning moment of any concert.

Dit tweedelige werk is gebaseerd op populaire Maleisische volksliedjes. De liedjes uit het eerste deel zijn Rasa Sayang eh (een liefdesliedje), Gelang Sipaku Gelang (een liedje over gemeenschapszin), Suriram (overeen meisje dat haar eeuwige vriendschap aanbiedt) en Di-Tanjung Katong (een liefdeslied dat zich afspeelt aan de zuidoostkust van Singapore). Deel twee bestaat uit Lenggang Kangkung (letterlijk ‘het zwaaien vande waterkers’), Katang Lompat (over de symboliek van de kikker) en Kenek kenek-lah Udang (een bruiloftslied). De twee delen van Singapore Rhapsody kunnen prima los van elkaar worden uitgevoerd.

Jacob de Haans Komposition besteht aus zwei Sätzen, die auf malaysischen Volksliedern basieren: zwei Liebeslieder, ein Lied über die Freundschaft, zwei Lieder über die Natur sowie ein Hochzeitslied. Die beiden Sätze von Singapore Rhapsody sind nicht untrennbar miteinander verbunden; sie können daher auch problemlos getrennt voneinander aufgeführt werden. Bringen Sie mit dieser Rhapsodie etwas Exotik in Ihr nächstes Konzert!

Singapour, la cité du Lion, est l’un des plus importants carrefours d’Asie. Singapour mélange habilement les cultures chinoises, malaises, indiennes et occidentales. La musique traditionnelle est l’image de la multiethnicité de cette ville-état. Les deux mouvements de cette composition s’inspirent de chants traditionnels malais. Le premier mouvement développe quatre chants traditionnels de caractère contrastant et contrasté. Le second mouvement est basé sur les chants Lenggang Kangkung (qui dépeint le gracieux mouvement du cresson de rizière), Katang Lompat (une chanson moraliste qui évoque le symbolisme de la grenouille) et un chant de mariage. Les deux mouvements de cetterhapsodie ne sont pas intimement liés. Il est donc possible de les interpréter séparément.

Singapore, la citt del leone, è uno dei più importanti crocevia dell’Asia. Singapore mischia abilmente le culture provenienti dalla Cina, dalla Malesia, dall’India a quelle occidentali. La musica tradizionale è l’immagine delle molte etnie di questa citt -stato. I due movimenti di questa composizione si ispirano a canti tradizionali della Malesia. Il primo movimento sviluppa quattro canti tradizionali di carattere contrastante e contrastato. Il secondo movimento è basato sui canti Lenggang Kangkung e Katang Lompat, che, come d’abitudine in oriente, descrivono animali e l’ambiente in cui vivono legandoli a simbolismi, e un canto tradizionale in occasione di matrimoni. I duemovimenti di questa rapsodia non sono legati tra loro, rendendo possibile eseguirli separatamente.

Roland Kernen has arranged the songs Macht hoch die Tür (Open Wide the Gates), Maria durch ein Dornwald ging (Maria Walks Amid the Thorns) and O Little Town of Bethlehem in his magical Advents-Fantasie. Within thiswork O Little Town of Bethlehem is skilfully used to connect the individual sections. A very varied and beautifully constructed composition to enrich any Christmas programme.

Roland Kernen componeerde een betoverende fantasie op bekende Duitse kerstliederen. U hoort Macht hoch die Tür en Maria durch ein Dornwald ging en tevens O Bethlehem, du kleine Stadt als verbinding tussen de twee andereliederen. Deze originele fantasie is een ideale afwisseling tijdens uw kerstconcert.

In seiner bezaubernden Advents-Fantasie verarbeitete Roland Kernen die Lieder Macht hoch die Tür, Maria durch ein Dornwald ging und O Bethlehem, du kleine Stadt. Dabei setzte er das Lied O Bethlehem, du kleine Stadtgeschickt als Verbindung der einzelnen Teile ein. Ein gelungenes, abwechslungsreiches Werk, das jedes Weihnachtskonzertprogramm bereichert.

This piece was commissioned by the Dutch province of Groningen for the celebrations commemorating the liberation festivities in 1987. In the composition, the dream of a world without war is symbolized. It is the first composition in a series in which Jacob de Haan combines concert music with pop music in a style, which reminds one of film music. Later compositions in which he has reaped much success with the same formula in style are Oregon, La Storia and Utopia.

Dit werk componeerde Jacob de Haan in 1987 in opdracht van de provincie Groningen. Aanleiding was de Bevrijdingsdag. De muziek symboliseert de droom van een wereld zonder oorlog. Het is het eerste werk uit een reeks waarin Jacob deHaan amusementsmuziek en serieuze muziek vermengd tot een muziekstijl die aan filmmuziek doet denken.

Dieses Werk komponierte Jacob de Haan 1987 im Auftrag der niederländischen Provinz Groningen anlässlich des Befreiungstages. Die Musik symbolisiert den Traum von einer Welt ohne Krieg. Es handelt sich um das erste Werk einer Reihe, in welcher Jacob de Haan Unterhaltungsmusik und ernste Musik zu einer Stilart vermischt, die an Filmmusik erinnert.

Free World Fantasy (“Fantaisie du monde libre”) symbolise le rêve que nous chérissons tous : celui d’un monde sans guerre et sans haine. Dans cette composition, Jacob de Haan combine le style classique une rythmique récurrente issue de la musique pop pour créer un genre proche de la musique de film. Une fresque musicale qui sonne comme un appel la paix.

The Geuzen Medal is an annual award given to people or organizations who have found unique ways to further democracy in the world and help eliminate dictatorships, racism, and discrimination. The original Geuzen fought against Spanish imperialism in Holland during the16th century. During the Second World War a group resisting the Nazis also named themselves De Geuzen. Jan de Haan incorporates Psalm 43, sung by a group of condemned prisoners shortly before their execution in 1943, into Geuzen Medal Fanfare, composed for the 25th bestowal of this special award.

Ieder jaar weer wordt ze weer uitgereikt: de Geuzenpenning. Dit is aan een persoon of organisatie die zich op bijzondere wijze inzet voor de democratie en tegen dictatuur, racisme en discriminatie. In de zestiende eeuw streden deGeuzen tegen de Spaanse bezetting. In de Tweede Wereldoorlog was er eveneens een verzetsgroep die zich zo noemde. Een deel van hen werd in 1943 veroordeeld tot de doodstraf. Vlak voor de voltrekking van het vonnis zetten zij psalm43 in. Precies deze psalm verwerkte Jan de Haan in zijn openingswerk Geuzen Medal Fanfare. Hij schreef het ter gelegenheid van de vijfentwintigste uitreiking.

Der Geuzenpenning (Geuzen Medal) wird jährlich an Menschen oder Organisataionen verliehen, die sich auf besondere Weise für die Demokratie und gegen Diktatur, Rassismus und Diskriminierung eingesetzt haben. Die ursprünglichen Geuzen kämpften gegen spanische Besatzung in Holland im 16. Jahrhundert; im Zweiten Weltkrieg nannte sich eine Widerstandsgruppe gegen die Deutschen ebenfalls De Geuzen. Den Psalm 43, den eine Gruppe von Verurteilten 1943 kurz vor ihrer Hinrichtung anstimmte, verarbeitete Jan de Haan in seinem Eröffnungswerk De Geuzen Medal Fanfare, das er zur 25. Verleihung dieses besonderen Ordens schrieb.

La Médaille des Gueux décernée par la Geuzen Resistance Foundation 1940-1945, met l’honneur une personne ou une organisation méritante, s’étant engagée dans la lutte pour la démocratie. Le nom de la fondation tire son origine de la révolte des Gueux, mouvement patriotique néerlandais. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, des résistants reprirent le nom des Gueux. Lorsque quinze d’entre eux tombèrent aux mains des occupants allemands, ils entamèrent le Psaume 43. L’arrangement de Jan de Haan conserve l’authenticité de la mélodie originale.

Ogni anno la “Geuzen Medal”, viene conferita dalla Fondazione olandese “Geuzen Resistance 1940-1945 Foundation” quale tributo ad individui o istituzioni che si siano prodigate per la democrazia o contro le dittature, le discriminazioni ed il razzismo. Nel corso della seconda guerra mondiale, un gruppo di resistenti riprese il nome di “Geuzen”: 15 membri caddero prigionieri e al momento della loro fucilazione cantarono il Salmo 43.
