Latin-Americana is a collection of 5 famous melodies and rhythms by various composers arranged for orchestra by Frank Naylor. Each work has been inspired by Latin America in some way with the classic tunes Jarabe Tapatio La Cucaracha La Paloma Clelito Lindo and Ay Ay Ay all included.Frank Naylor has become known for creating high-quality arrangements of classical music ideal for school and college level orchestras. Danzas is a suite inspired by the music of Latin America. It is a great choice for a Pops or an outdoor concert and is playable by amateur and student ensembles as well as professional orchestras. The work consists of three movements each devoted to the musicalculture of a different country: 1. Argentina 2. Brazil 3. Cuba. It may be performed as a whole or individual movements may be played instead as an opener/ closer.

James Weeks' Ærc for any number of orchestral string instruments (at least 12). Composed and published 2016.Duration: 26-30 minutes.Ærc is the Old Engliosh word for ark dervied from the Latin arca a chest. Here it denotes an enclosed space perhaps of refuge or safety certainly of intimacy. As in the ark or Noah the players are paired entering the figurative space of the work two-by-two and creating a dense polyphonic texture (a giant viol consort) from breath-like bow-strokes each pair in rythmic unison before exiting in sequence.

Parts are for hire: hire@ewh.dk Programme NoteWind-Drumming was written in 1979 on a commission from The Danish Percussion Ensemble.The piece is a clash of two kinds of sound-associations; the mystic exotic impact of Latin-American drumming and the more well dressed reputation of Western concert-instruments in this case a wind-quintet (w. electric flute).The two instrumental camps either melt into one soft humming ritual or are split wide apart the winds tearing their way through the undergrowth ofrainforest-drumming. There is more than one way of getting on to WIND-DRUMMING: obviously it is about the confrontation of two incongruent ways of living a lament on the damage done to the tropical rainforests of the world by modern civilisation. Ballet-Bernstein’s first composition in the genre Fancy Free composed in 1944 became extremely popular. The story of the ballet is fairly simple and was later reused by Bernstein in On The Town his popular first Broadway musical. The story devised by Jerome Robbins takes place in New York City where three sailors on shore leave meet three girls in a bar who they dance with and end up fighting over. They soon realize they were foolish to let the women become between their friendships.The music is based on a considerable number of popular styles of the day. At the beginning you hear Big Stuff a popular hit Bernstein later recordedas a single and made famous by Billie Holiday. Bernstein’s music is comprised of a fusion of different genres from Latin-American to Popular and Classical to Jazz all of which are footprints in his inimitable style.Available here as part of the Hawkes Pocket Score edition (No.1135) is the Study Score for Bernstein’s popular ballet Fancy Free.

The harmonic model for this piece is based on a subdivision of pitches in primary and secondary notes in principle any chord can be viewed from it's structural qualities including interval content and symmetry but it might also be conceived from a more acoustical point of view.The parallel basis for this work is a sequence of 12-tone chords repeated as a chaconne every chord has it's Alter-Ego an overtone series the fundamentals of which together form a bass line. By articulating the cycle differently with always varied diagonal paths between two layers Lindberg has aimed to give the music some direction despite it's vague repetitive structure.Workfor Orchestra premiered at the Queen Elizabeth Hall London by the London Sinfonietta under the direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen April 1990.

Oper In Drei Bildern-This masterpiece composed by Erich Wolfgang Korngold when he was only 23 was one of the great stage successes of the 1920s and 30s before being removed from theatre schedules by the National Socialists. Rediscovered in the 1970s it has enjoyed continuing popularity ever since. The libretto was compiled by the composer?s father the music critic Julius Korngold writing under the pseudonym ?Paul Schott? a combination of the name of the protagonist and the publishing house. A vivacious theatre group comes to liven up the gloomy city of Bruges (here a symbol of death) and the widower Paul is forced to decide between the past and the present.Korngold was fascinated by this symbolic plot and created an iridescent orchestral score washed in vivid colours. A variety of operatic devices are intermingled as if viewed through a kaleidoscope: opulent melodic arias advanced harmonies psychoanalytic profundity and cinematic transitions oscillating between reality and dream worlds guarantee the continuing modernity of this work up to the present day.
