A century ago, James Causley Windram, then band director of the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers (and later the Coldstream Guards) asked Gustav Holst if he would transcribe some of the composer's Hymns from the Rig Veda for military band. Always a band advocate, Holst readily agreed. In this thoroughly characteristic suite, two of Windram's settings (Hymn of the Travellers and Battle Hymn) have been edited for modern instrumentation, while a third (Hymn to Manas) has been arranged by Jon Ceander Mitchell from Holst's original choral setting.

John Bacchus Dykes (1823-1876) a composé la mélodie Nicaea pour accompagner le magnifique texte de louange Holy, holy, holy! écrit par Reginald Heber. L’hymne connaît un succès universel dès sa publication dans le psautier Hymns Ancient and Modern en 1861. Philip Sparke a repris cette célèbre mélodie pour composer Variants on an English Hymn Tune qui se présente sous la forme traditionnelle d’un air varié dont la structure comporte une introduction, un thème et une suite de trois variations sur le thème.

This composition is based on the life of the German cavalry general Hans Michael Elias von Obentraut (1574-1625), who was known for his nerve, loyalty and courage. The figure Van Obentraut is closely connected to the town of Seelze, where he died a heroic death and where a monument was erected in his honor. The work consists of four movements in which various aspects of this historical figure are featured. What is extra special about this work is the fact that its firs movement (Hymn for a Hero) had been made available as an easy version for flexible band. This makes it possible for a youth of beginner band to play along with a band of adults or advanced players. This hymn can also be played as a separate piece.

Klaas van der Woude has based his arrangement An Old Swedish Hymn on an old pastoral hymn from Dalarna. This beautiful melody even attracted ABBA as they used it as the opening music for some of their concerts. Van der Woude’s arrangement is in classical style making it suitable for any occasion.

Voor deze titel bewerkte Klaas van der Woude de oude Zweedse psalm Gammal fäbodpsalm från Dalarna (Oude pastorale hymne uit Dalarna). Maar dit is niet zomaar een deuntje... Hij koos hiermee een bekende melodie die ook ABBAbij enkele concerten als openingstune gebruikte! De bewerking van Klaas van der Woude is in klassieke stijl, geschikt voor welke gelegenheid dan ook.

Klaas van der Woude bearbeitete einen alten schwedischen Psalm namens Gammal fäbodpsalm från Dalarna (Alte Pastoralhymne aus Dalarna“) in diesem Stück für Brass Band. Damit wählte er nicht irgendeine Melodie, war doch dieses Lied immerhin schon in einigen Konzerten von ABBA als Eröffnungsmelodie erklungen! Klaas van der Woudes Bearbeitung ist im klassischen Stil gehalten und somit für jeden Anlass geeignet.

Gammal Fäbodpsalm Från Dalarna d’Oskar Lindberg (1887-1955) est un hymne pastoral basé sur une vieille mélodie de Dalécarlie, province historique de la Suède. La Dalécarlie présente de magnifiques paysages où dominent forêts, petites montagnes, et lacs scintillants. L’arrangement de Klaas van der Woude conserve l’authenticité de la mélodie originale.

This flexible piece in 4 parts was written by Jacob de Haan as a ‘theme tune’ for the Yamaha teaching method seminars in Germany. The solemn and dignified hymn-like melody will add a touch ofgrandeur to any performance. Its simplicity and rich harmonies suggest overtones of Land of Hope and Glory and this would be a good item to bring a deep and uplifting sense of occasion to your concert.

Vanuit zijn didactische ervaring met het componeren van eenvoudige muziek voor variabele bezettingen gaf de Nederlandse componist Jacob de Haan in 2004 een workshop tijdens het Yamaha Bläserklassen Kongress in Oberursel (bij het DuitseFrankfurt). Op verzoek van Wolfgang Feuerborn, leider en initiator van het project, schreef Jacob de Haan speciaal voor deze seminars een hymne. Hij noemde het stuk - heel toepasselijk - The Seminar Hymn. Dit werk isleerzaam en motiverend voor jonge muzikanten - en een plezier om naar te luisteren.

Aufgrund seiner didaktischen Erfahrungen im Komponieren von leichter Musik für variable Besetzungen hielt der holländische Komponist Jacob de Haan im Rahmen des Yamaha BläserKlassen-Kongresses in Oberursel 2004 einen Lehrgang ab. Auf Wunsch von Wolfgang Feuerborn, dem Leiter und Initiator des Projekts, schrieb Jacob de Haan speziell für dieses Seminar eine Hymne. Er nannte das Stück - passenderweise - The Seminar Hymn. Dieses Werk vermittelt geschickt wertvolles Lehrmaterial für junge Musiker mit viel Motivation und Spielfreude, die sich auch aufs Publikum übertragen wird.

La Yamaha BläserKlasse est un projet développé par Yamaha en partenariat avec le système éducatif allemand. Ce concept permet d’enseigner la musique d’ensemble l’école primaire (et premier cycle secondaire). Bénéficiant d’une riche expérience dans la composition d’œuvres pédagogiques instrumentation variable, Jacob de Haan compose un hymne, spécialement pour les séminaires d’application durant lesquels les enseignants sont formés cette nouvelle manière d’apprendre la musique.
