Lemoine, Henry
Frédéric Chopin is known worldwide as one of the leading musicians of the Romantic era. This collection of Mazurkas features all 57 of the Polish virtuoso pianist?s works written inthis genre for the solo Piano. Chopin started composing his mazurkas in 1825 and continued composing them until 1849 the year of his death. His Mazurkas while originating in the Polish dance(the ?mazurek?) differ from the traditional variety in that they were written for the concert hall rather than the dance hall so that it was Chopin who put the mazurka on the European musical map. Thesemazurkas signalled new ideas of nationalism and influenced and inspired other composers to support their national music. This Urtext edition is based on many different sources and follows the current state of research topresent the pieces in a form as close to the original intentions of the composer as possible. The comments at the end of the volume give detailed information about the sources and their deviations and an appendix with the firstversions of certain works is also included. Most of the pieces are quite brief and thus perfect for any skilled pianist?s repertoire.

Nocturne in E flat major, Op. 9 No. 2 (CHOPIN FREDERIC)

(+)
Par CHOPIN FREDERIC. The Complete Chopin ? A New Critical Edition from Edition Peters is firmly established as the most important ongoing scholarly edition of Chopin\'s music and is a must for any discerning pianist. The world?s foremost Chopin editors, under Editor-in-chief John Rink, bring their unrivalled collective knowledge to imbue the project with unique authority, drawing upon the latest international scholarship. The Complete Chopin prioritizes the needs of the practical pianist and provides a beautifully presented performing text of each work based on a single principal source together with important variants, along with thorough critical commentaries and illuminating prefatory essays in English, French and German. Chopin\'s early Nocturne in E-flat major is one of his most popular works. First published in 1832, it has a charming, vocally-inspired melody in the treble with a serenade-like accompaniment in the left hand. Edited by leading Chopin scholar, Christophe Grabowksi, this volume presents two versions of the Nocturne: one based on the most definitive impression of the French first edition released during Chopin?s lifetime, the second a pioneering compilation of all the variants to have flowed from Chopin?s pen after the work was first completed. This second text allows pianists to create their own versions of the Nocturne by combining variants as they wish, thereby drawing inspiration directly from Chopin\'s boundless imagination. Edited by leading Chopin scholar, Christophe Grabowksi, as part of the Edition Peters series The Complete Chopin (series editors: John Rink, Jean-Jacques Eigeldinger, Jim Samson, Christophe Grabowski). Ground-breaking format, presenting both an Urtext reading and a version with all variants attributable to Chopin, allowing pianists to create their own version. / Date parution : 2022-07-28/ Répertoire / Piano

They were included, along with the nocturnes and impromptus, to Chopin's feminine works. In the descriptions of their nature appear: volatility, airiness, overwheleming movement, aristocracy, eroticism. They are divided into two trends: social and concert. (+)
Par CHOPIN FREDERIC. Chopin Berceuse for Piano Op.57 Chopin's ?Berceuse? is one of his most frequently performed works and was regarded by subsequent composers as the prototype of the instrumental lullaby. This piece that Chopin initially named ?Variantes? was composed around the time of his great Sonata in B minor Op.58 and was renamed ?Berceuse? only when it went to print. In it, the composer systematically subjects a four-measure motif to a series of variants which are linked in a continuous flow over an ostinato figure. This Urtext edition reflects the latest state of Chopin research, offering a definitive musical text based on a careful evaluation of the sources. Readings and editorial decisions are documented in the Critical Commentary (Eng) and a detailed Foreword (Ger/Eng) provides information on the work. Hardy Rittner, a Chopin specialist as well as Professor of Piano at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, has supplemented the composer's fingering from a historically informed perspective. His chapter on performance practice contains valuable notes, particularly on Chopin's pedal indications which clearly diverge in the sources, on rubato, the execution of ornaments as well as on tonal nuance, voice-leading and cantabilità. - Urtext edition based on the cutting edge of scholarship - Historically informed fingering and notes on performance practice by Hardy Rittner (Ger/Eng) - Well-presented engraving / Date parution : 2023-06-01/ Répertoire / Piano

Par CHOPIN FREDERIC. The Complete Chopin ? A New Critical Edition from Edition Peters is firmly established as the most important ongoing scholarly edition of Chopin?s music and is a must for any discerning pianist. Chopin?s etudes occupy a central position in piano literature. Prized by generations of the greatest pianists as the supreme examples in the genre, their reputation rests on their not only challenging specific aspects of a pianist?s technique, but also for being great music, transcending the genre of mere ?study?. In this edition of opus 10 (the earlier of Chopin?s two sets of studies, ending with the famous \'Revolutionary\' etude), pianist and musicologist Roy Howat presents a new edition which addresses many of the misunderstandings created by a very poorly engraved first French edition (containing errors which were then carried over to the German and English editions) ? an edition which nevertheless included many important revisions made at proof stage. Using this first French edition as a primary source, Howat produces an Urtext edition which, while recording noteworthy variants from a variety of sources, is not a ?conflated? version, but a coherent performing edition in its own right, ideal for all who aspire to play these cornerstones of piano repertoire in an informed way. / Date parution : 2022-09-07/ Recueil / Piano

He has made great use of the folk music of this region and they are characterised by subtle changes in the unusual rhythm varied melodic colour and demonstrate his vast range of compositional ability. Ranging from brief and vigorous dances to deep and complex extended works they are each very individual with a unique character. Either slow or fast the dance was generally performed by a large company in the manner of a village or folk dance. Frédéric Chopin?s Polonaise-Fantaisie In Ab Major Op.61 was composed and published in 1846 and is dedicated to Mme A. Veyret. The work was initially slow to gain favour with musicians due to itsintricate form and harmonic complexity. One of the first critics to speak positively about it was Arthur Hedley who wrote in 1947 that the work 'works on the hearer's imagination with a power of suggestion equaled only bythe F minor Fantasy or the fourth Ballade'.While Chopin is said to have referred initially to the piece only as a Fantasy the Polonaise-Fantasie takes its metre much of its rhythm and someof its melodic character from the polonaise. This Henle Urtext Edition for solo Piano has been edited by Ewald Zimmermann and includes fingering by Hans-Martin Theopold.

(+)
Par CHOPIN FREDERIC. In 1845/46 Chopin composed his bel canto inspired “Barcarolle” in F-sharp major op. 60, which became a model for subsequent generations of composers. In his evaluation of the divergent and partly even contradictory sources – due to the different engraving models (Stichvorlagen) for the first editions published almost simultaneously in Paris, London, and Leipzig – the editor obtains new results and readings, especially regarding problematic passages. Chopin’s pedal indications from the other sources, which differ from the main source, are added in small print. Information on this is provided in the Critical Commentary, which also documents the numerous variants of the sources and editorial decisions. An informative preface (Ger/Eng) discusses the genesis of the work and Chopin’s specific understanding of the final shape of his works. Hardy Rittner supplements Chopin’s fingering from a historically informed perspective. He gives in-depth advice on central questions of performance practice (including cantilena style, rubato and pedal use) and discusses different interpretational approaches (Ger/Eng). Practical page turns (with fold-out page) and a reader-friendly engraving round off this new edition./ Répertoire / Piano

Fr?d?ric Chopin???s 4 Scherzi are high points in the Romantic piano repertoire. Chopin here takes a traditional genre and fills it with radically new content. They are wild demonic in tone and there is little about them that isjoke-like despite the original meaning of their title. Referring to the 1st Scherzo Robert Schumann asked: ???how should seriousness be attired when even a ???joke??? is veiled in black'???. Now that the Scherzi nos. 1 4 have beenpublished in revised stand-alone editions G. Henle Publishers is now offering all four in paperback and hardback in an edition that reflects the current state of Chopin research. Both the footnotes and the extensive CriticalReport on the Internet offer detailed information on the familiar topic of ???Chopin variants??? and on all the textual problems they raise. This is Chopin in top form!

Date parution : 2021-11-25/ Recueil / Piano

The early Piano Sonata op. 4 offers interesting insights into the young Chopin's compositional development. In all probability written during his student years at the Warsaw Conservatory and highly prized by Chopin himself thenineteen-year-old composer presented the work to the publisher Tobias Haslinger on a visit to Vienna. But the publisher put off the still unknown composer. It was only when Chopin was at the height of his fame thatHaslinger saw a possibility to do business - but this time it was Chopin who declined. Thus his first sonata was never published during his lifetime. To date an inside tip this work is now available for the first time in Henlequality.
