Franz Schubert compose « l'Ave Maria » pour voix et piano en 1825. Celui-ci est publié en 1826 sous l'opus 52 n°6, en Sib Majeur. A cette époque, il voue une grande admiration à la Sainte Marie, la mère de Jésus. Il met en musique un extrait de la poésie de « Madame du lac » écrit par l'écrivain anglais Walter Scott qui a été traduit en Allemand par Adam Storck. « L'ave Maria » est appelé par Schubert son dritter Gesang « la troisième chanson d'Ellen ». L'héroïne de la poésie, Ellen Douglas, prie la vierge en se cachant. Dans une de ses correspondances avec ses parents, il avoue exprimer dans cette chanson un hymne à la Sainte Marie. Les mots d'origines de Walter Scott incluent beaucoup de référence à la prière latine de « l'Ave Maria ». Finalement, les mots latins adaptés de la prière est maintenant la version la plus généralement exécutée. L'ave Maria s'inscrit dans le répertoire marial du 19ème siècle. Toscani - Riduzione per canto e pianoforte-Based on the anonymous recasting of a libretto derived in turn from La fede tradita e vendicata by Francesco Silvani (1705) Il prigionier superbo by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi was first performed on 5 September 1733 at the Teatro di San Bartolomeoin Naples. With this opera ? his second dramma serio for San Bartolomeo in less than two years ? the young composer (who had already acquired considerable professional stature in the city?s theatres churches and aristocratic circles) reprised aperennially popular subject centered around the dramatic conflict between filial piety and devotion to one?s betrothed. Inserted between the opera?s three acts were the intermezzi of La serva padrona which would soon go on to take all of Europe bystorm.The primary source for this edition is a manuscript copy of the score currently housed in the Conservatorio di Musica ?San Pietro a Majella? in Naples and prepared by Giuseppe Sigismondo who was quite probably working from the now-lost autograph.Two other significant manuscript copies of the score also housed in Naples (respectively in the Biblioteca Oratoriana dei Girolamini and the aforementioned conservatory) were consulted along with a number of manuscript copies of individual arias.

With a libretto by Giuseppe Adami Il Tabarro is the first of three operas that make up Puccini's triptych.   Along with 'Suor Angelica' and 'Gianni Schicchi' Il Tabarro is one of Puccini's most famous and best-loved works. Typically known as the 'tragic panel' of the triptych this work was composed in two stages - in 1913 and then between 1915 and 1916. Il Tabarro heralds a move towards an expressionist form of language and drama for Puccini a truly unique work ofart.

Verdi penetrated the tormented sensitivity of her soul as he visualized her in his music transforming her individual fate into a universal representation of human suffering. His compassion for her however met with bigoted censure: the bourgeois public scandalized by the presence of a kept woman as a character on the stage gave the opera an icy reception at its premiere in Venice (Teatro La Fenice 6 March 183).Certainly an inferior cast for the occasion did little to help. Only the following year when La traviata was revived for another production in Venice (Teatro San Benedetto) did the tale of Violetta manage to overcome this prejudice and win the unconditional esteem it so deserves.
