On Eagles' Wings is a wonderfully uplifting piece by Alexander L'Estrange for upper voices featuring glorious soaring melodies and an infectious rhythmic drive. It can be performed either with organ or showcasing L’Estrange’s jazz background with piano and double bass. Written to commemorate the Passion of Christ, this cantata is a moving tribute to His life and ministry. Composed for maximum flexibility and scored for SA(T)B voices, the optional cued notes make it possible for the cantata to grow with your choir. Smaller choirs will enjoy the rich textures and larger ensembles will be able to engage their full resources. For churches that desire an instrumental component, a very modest consort instrumentation creates a reverent accompaniment. Take My Life, and Let It Be Consecrated was written by hymnist, Frances Ridley Havergal, daughter of the well-known English hymnist William Havergal. Francis wrote that it was on occasion of visiting the home of a friend that the hymn was composed. It seems there were ten persons in the home that she was visiting, some converted and some still unconverted. She prayed, 'Lord, give me all in this house!' At the end of her visit, all were converted. It was then that she penned the hymn that ends with 'Ever only, all for Thee!' Multiple voicings, instrumental parts and a beautiful fully-orchestrated accompaniment track are available. / Choeur

Even when I?m writing large-scale orchestral works (or indeed chamber music) I alwaysfind myself returning to techniques and textures I?ve greedily stolen from centuries of music from Tye to Howells early and recent. I try to design my own choral music primarily for use in worship where the measure of the success of the piece is if it helps guide the listeners? ears upwards and elsewhere as sacred architecture and the various rituals of the church themselves are meant to do. The specificity of music heard only in certain seasons is for me an important and thrilling element of the choral tradition: a Beethoven Symphony is welcome at any point in the year but an anthem for Candlemas works only then at a certain time of day and on a certain day of the year. With this functional spirit at the heart of the compositional process I hope that the music collected here makes equal sense in a concert setting. These works range from ordinaries of the mass to hymns to motets and represent a decade and a half of output.' - Nico Muhly
