This arrangement of the popular Polovtsian Dances by Russian composer Borodin contains seven dances from the original manuscript, some of which have been used in the musical Kismet, as well as being performed by such famous names as Tony Bennett and Bing Crosby. Includes a solo for snare drum! Masamicz Amono bewerkte de ´Polovetser Dansen´ van de rus Alexander Borodin voor harmonieorkest. Borodin begon in 1869 aan de opera, Prins Igor, volgens sommigen zijn voornaamste werk. De opera bevat deze Polovetser Dansen,die meestal als een zelfstandig stuk wordt uitgevoerd en in deze vorm waarschijnlijk zijn meest bekende compositie is. Bij zijn dood was de opera niet volledig, daar hij onvoldoende tijd had voor componeren, gezien zijn werkals scheikundige. De opera werd postuum afgemaakt door Nikolaj Rimski-Korsakov en Aleksandr Glazoenov.Masamicz Amano nahm sich die beliebten Polovetzer Tänze des russischen Komponisten Alexander Borodin vor, die auch schon im Musical Kismet verwendet und als Lied von Tony Bennet, Bing Crosby und den Four Aces interpretiert wurden. Amano schuf daraus ein überzeugendes Arrangement für Blasorchester, in dem die Snare Drum solistisch glänzen darf. Les Danses polovtsiennes offrent l’exemple le plus spectaculaire de l’exotisme musical russe, d’une sensualité pre, sauvage, et d’une rare virtuosité orchestrale. Ce divertissement dansé et chanté en plusieurs épisodes, quintessence de l'opéra Le Prince Igor (1879), contient tout ce qui suscita la faveur de l'Europe fin XIXe : désir d'ailleurs, attraction pour un Orient plus rêvé que réel. Masamicz Amano en a réalisé une version étonnante pour Orchestre d’Harmonie avec un délicieux solo de caisse claire.Le Polovtsian Dances offrono l’esempio più spettacolare dell’esotismo musicale russo, fatto di una sensualit selvaggia e di una rara virtuosit orchestrale. Philip Sparke wrote this march for the famous brass band contest held ever year on Whit Friday in Oldham and Saddleworth. Given the competition’s long history (over 120 years), he consciously composed this piece in a very traditional march form. The title, The Conqueror, refers to Alexander the Great’s nickname as well as being something every band aspires to be! Philip Sparke schrieb diesen Marsch für die Teilnahme am berühmten Pfingstfreitag-Marschwettbewerb in England. So weist The Conqueror auch weitgehend die Form eines Wettbewerbsmarsches auf. Ganz im Sinne des passenden Titels Der Eroberer“ sollte es für jedes Blasorchester ein Leichtes sein, Juroren und/oder Publikum mit dieser Musik zu überzeugen! Durante la stagione musicale delle brass band inglesi, c’è un appuntamento al quale gli appassionati non possono mancare: il celebre Whit Friday March Contest, un concorso all’aperto che ha luogo il venerdì dopo l’Ascensione. Si tratta di un evento cui partecipano anche formazioni straniere, tra cui la Brass Band Alexander di Stavanger in Norvegia, per la quale Philip Sparke ha composto questa marcia. The Conqueror fa parte delle marce da concerto tradizionali. Il titolo si riallaccia ad Alessandro Magno.

Composer Modest Moussorgsky (1839-1881) came from the prosperous environment of Russian nobility. In 1865, after his officer’s education, he joined the guard’s regiment in St. Petersburg. Here he met a number of well-known colleague-composers, including Balakirev, Cui, Rimsky- Korsakov and Borodin. They strived to develop a “classical style†of composing while at the same time retaining a strong Russian influence. His opera Boris Godunov tells the tale of Boris, who with the support of the people, declared himself Tsar, but totally fell short of the role. The opera became popular in the re-orchestrated version produced by Rimsky-Korsakov in 1896. Tohru Takahashi has usedthe beautiful musical themes of this opera in Selections from Boris Godunov - a captivating work for concert band. Moussorgsky’s opera Boris Godunov - gebaseerd op het gelijknamige drama van Aleksandr Pushkin (waarin Boris Godunov zichzelf met steun van het volk uitroept tot tsaar, maar in deze rol compleet tekortschiet) - werd populairin de bewerking die Rimsky-Korsakov in 1896 maakte.
