orchestra (1985) Flute and Piano [Sheet music] Fennica Gehrman
Huilukonsertto. Par ENGLUND EINAR. Einar Englund?s (1916-1999) Flute Concerto (1...(+)
Huilukonsertto. Par ENGLUND EINAR. Einar Englund?s (1916-1999) Flute Concerto (1985) is beyond dispute one of his greatest works. Its finest attributes are its rich melodic invention, colourful instrumentation and immediate message. Add to these its rewarding solo part, and the result is truly one of his best concertos ? and works. He himself did not hesitate to regard it as such. It was premiered in Helsinki on September 16, 1985, having been completed at Ljugarn on the Swedish island of Gotland at the end of June. The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Leif Segerstam, and the soloist was the concerto?s dedicatee, Mikael Helasvuo. The Flute Concerto opens with a Ritornello in which the flute's playful, dance-like passages make sharp contrast with the orchestra's heroic stance. In the mellow Canzona which follows, the flute plays rhapsodically over repetitive orchestral figures. The work's 'action-packed' finale hints at parody in its military march-like opening, but also gives rein to the lyricism already familiar from the second movement. This product includes the solo flute part and the piano reduction. The orchestral study score (composer?s manuscript) is available for sale (product number 9790550117471). The performance material is available for hire from the publisher. Duration: c. 23? Instrumentation of the orchestra: 3(III=picc)222?4330?14?harpsichord( celesta)?hp?str / Date parution : 2022-05-31/ Répertoire / Flûte Traversière et Piano

PAUL WETZGER (1870-1937) was a German flutist composer born in Dahme near Lübeck. At a young age he took violin lessons from the local music director later switching to flute. By 15 years of age Wetzger had played his first concert in the main church of Dahmen and was second flutist of the municipal orchestra. He later became solo flutist with the municipal orchestra of Essen and taught at the Essen conservatory. He wrote numerous pieces for flute and several chamber music works also editing works by the French composer/flutist Jules Demersseman. Wetzger's Am Waldesbach (By the Forest Brook) ideally for flute and orchestra or piano was a staple of celebrated flutistMarcel Moyse recorded by him in 1935 on the French Columbia label. Since then it has become a favorite in the flute teaching repertory perhaps most notably included Toshio Takahashi's famous Suzuki Flute Method. This Southern Music edition faithfully captures this classic piece as performed by living legend of the flute Sir James Galway.

Magic Flute on Stage-Album for Children?Tomorrow I am going to write a collection of miniatures for children. For some time I have been thinking it would be good to alleviate the dearth of musical literature for children.? (From a letter Tchaikovsky wrote to Nadezhda von Meck on 30 April 1878) Tchaikovsky?s collection of piano pieces for children is subtitled ?Collection of easy pieces in the style of Schumann.? The instruments Pyotr Il?yich Tchaikovsky studied included the flute but he never wrote any music for it. How ever many of the miniatures from the Album for Children suit the flute perfectly - from the expressive and romantic Morning Prayer and Sweet Dream to the moretechnical Mazurka and Neapolitan Song. These touchingly lyrical miniatures and almost virtuosic dance pieces arranged for flute and piano will be loved by young flautists and met with enthusiasm by concert audiences.

Composer Pierre Camus (1885-1948) is little known today. However his Chanson and Badinerie is a sublime addition to the Flute's repertoire and proves to be an exciting yet challenging piece for performers. Camus' piece for Flute and Piano accompaniment is in two movements. Chanson (Song) is composed in 6/8 meter and reflects French romantic characteristics in its use of lyrical melodies use of the lower register of the Flute and chromaticism. The Badinerie contrasts with this with a faster tempo 2/4 meter chordal Piano accompaniment and scalic semiquaver flourishes. All of theseelements combine in Camus' Chanson and Badinerie to make for an exciting addition to the advanced flautist's repertoire.

The instantly recognisable and ever-popular Méditation from the opera Thaïs by Jules Massenet (1842-1912) remains a strong favourite in the classical repertoire superbly arranged for Flute and Piano by French flautist Paul Taffanel. Massenet first studied music with his mother before entering the Paris Conservatoire. He is best known for his operas of which he composed over thirty. Thaïs was first performed at the Opéra Garnier in Paris in 1894 and continues to be one of the composer's most performed operas. The famous Méditation isan intermezzo originally for Violin and Orchestra which has since been arranged for many different instruments making it a frequent concert piece. The arrangement for Flute and Piano remains in the original key of D major and displays the passionate religious intentions. Taffanel's adaptions include breath marks phrasing changing octaves for some notes and articulation among other aspects. Massenet's Méditation is challenging through its use of lyricism in the upper register yet it remains a favoured and popular piece in the Flute's repertoire.

Aztec Dances was commissioned by Christopher Orton with the assistance of the BBC Performing Arts Fund. The first performance was given by Christopher Orton (recorder) and Magdalena Nasidlak (piano) at a concert in the Manchester Midday Concerts series at the Bridgewater Hall Manchester in March 2010.The version for flute and piano was premiered by Wissam Boustany (Flute) and Aleksander Szram (Piano) at St James?s Church Piccadilly on Thursday 19 May 2011.1. Ritual/Pastorale2. Fertility Dance3. Ghost Dance/Song4. Sacrificial Dance Composer's Note The idea for the genesis of thiswork and indeed its title and individual movements came after visiting an exhibition at the British Museum entitled Moctezuma ?Aztec Ruler. The exhibition traced the events following the election in 1502 of Moctezuma as Supreme Ruler of the Aztecs and the subsequent invasion of 1519 by a Spanish expedition led by Hermán Cortés ? an event that was to eventually lead to the demise of the Aztec civilisation.Part of the exhibition explored the role that music and dance played in Aztec life. The primitive recorder together with trumpets and drums were used as an important part of the formal ritual ceremonies (including rather gruesomely human sacrifice) that took place to appease the many Gods which the Aztecs worshipped as well as for other more informal occasions in their social and cultural life.I have tried to reflect some of these highly contrasting and dramatic ideas in this four movement work.
