Evolution! by Niels Marhtinsen (2017) - for Soprano solo Choir (SATB) and Orchestra. Programnote EVOLUTION! er en del af ORIGINS2017 en serie på fire værker der alle handler om naturvidenskab. De tre andre værker er operaen DARWIN live animation-værket SOLAR WALK og korsymfonien A UNIVERSE FROM NOTHING (fra ingenting et UNIVERS). De fire værker deler musikalsk materiale fx findes Tidskoralen i 'Evolution' også i 'Darwin' og korets grundmateriale i 'Evolution!'s første del kommer fra en af Susi Hyldgaards melodier fra 'Solar Walk'; jeg fik venligst lov ogsåat bruge den i nærværende værk. Også tak til Asger Johannes Steenholdt som forærede mig basgangen i 2. del af 'Evolution!'. EVOLUTION! er bestilt af og komponeret til Aarhus Symfoniorkester til Rethink2017 europæisk kulturhovedstad.

Written for the reconsecration of Coventry Cathedral Benjamin Britten's War Requiem Op.66 was first performed there on the 30th May 1962. The War Requiem was not meant to be a pro-British piece or a glorification of British soldiers but a public statement of Britten's anti-war convictions. Saint Francois D'Assise is an opera in 3 acts by Olivier Messiaen. This volume is focused on the Act II – 6. Le Prêche Aux Oiseaux which depicts a moment when he preached to the birds in Assisi. Saint Francis gives the birds his benediction to which they answer by a Concerto. Based on the life of Saint Francis of Assisi this opera is set in Italy and is composed as per below: Act I: 1. La croix 2. Les laudes 3. Le baiser au lépreux Act II 4. L’ange voyageur 5. L’ange musicien 6. Le prêche aux oiseaux Act II 7. Les stigmates 8. La mort et la nouvelle vie This opera was played at the Paris Opera in 1983. Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) was a French organist and composer passionate about Ornithology and one of the most important composers of his century. Inspired by Japanese music he had a very special way of composing and his work can be identified by its complexity its diatonic aspect its harmony with limited transposition its colour and its additive rhythms. He composed many works related to ornithology and birdsong including the 'Bird Catalogue' in 7 volumes and the 'Treatise on Rhythm Colour and Ornithology' in 7 volumes.

John Rutter's Magnificat is a joyous celebration of the Virgin Mary inspired by feast-day festivities in countries such as Spain Mexico and Puerto Rico. Following the example set by Bach the Magnificat text is extended incorporating the fifteenth-century English poem 'Of a Rose' the prayers 'Sancta Maria' and the 'Sanctus' (set to the Gregorian chant of the Missa cum jubilo). The full scores for orchestra or chamber ensemble are now available on sale for the first time in handsome cloth-bound editions and the newly set orchestral parts are available on hire.
