Kirby Shaw has arranged this 19th Century American Melody for unaccompanied SATB choir. One of the world's most treasured songs this is a powerful and unostentatious setting that emphasises the song’s reverence and cogency.

Based on the traditional African American spiritual this setting depicts the story of Noah and the flood. After the baritone soloist introduces the chorus of the spiritual the SSATB choir responds with a harmonized version. Regina Coeli taken from Vladmir Godar's choral cycle Mater and arranged for accompanied SATB chorus. Godar’s large and varied output includes an oratorio works for orchestra chorus numerous chamber works educational pieces and a number of award-winning film scores. His haunting music was little known outside Eastern Europe until ECM Records released his vocal cycle Mater in 2006 which features stunning performances from Czech singer Iva Bittova. Medley in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.-This moving work was commissioned by the Choral Arts Society of Washington in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and premiered at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. It was described by The Washington Post as a speaker's narration of the slain African American leader's accomplishments with a galvanizing chorus of pungent syncopations and emotional turbulence - of both the composer's own invention and assimilated spirituals.

Written for the King's Singers for their 1995 South African tour and included on their Street Songs album this evocative work is based on a 16th-century Bushman painting of a European ship inhabited by people they saw as gods but who would soon be the cause of the Bushmen's extinction. Here for the first time in one collection are well-known traditional spirituals in the King's Singers own performing editions. This third volume in the Colour of Song series contains works from their past repertoire as well as two brand new arrangements. Also includes performance notes for each song.

These five spirituals for unaccompanied chorus despite the occasional appearance of complexity are basically simple: the harmony indeed is of the simplest possible. The apparent complexity arises primarily from the number of parts which are not however all real parts. These in fact seldom comprise more than the traditional four. Lines are frequently doubled at the octave rather in the manner of organ registration so that the chorus needs to be thought of as an organ-like body producing a homogeneous sound at many levels of the chords and melodies. Thus the numbers and even the kinds of voices needed to produce these chords and melodies in the most effective manner mustbe selected by the conductor from the whole body of the chorus according to the conditions of performance. Great latitude can be taken in this respect even to the extent of using low female voices for the high registers of written tenor parts or high male voices for the low registers of written alto parts etc.The only parts which are strictly differentiated are those marked Leader. These should be an individual voice standing out from the choir sufficiently to lead the singing both in the words and in the music. They need not be soloists engaged from outside.If the spirituals are performed in this way the apparent complexity of certain printed pages will disappear. Any reasonably sized chorus with four good leaders can produce the effect required.
