Tu es Petrus (you are Peter, the rock) is based on a Gregorian antiphon for the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul/Feast of the Chair of Peter. The piece was composed specifically to fit the parameters and setting of a Papal audience, with a brief performance time. In six-parts with octave doublings, it makes a big a cappella sound for a big space. A powerful new choice for pilgrim choirs to Rome!

A collaborative effort by four composers with close ties to the late Roger Wagner, who was a strong advocate and devotee of 16th century performance practices and Gergorian Chant. In particular, Roger was very fond of the Ave Maria, and was closely identified with this remarkable plainchant, which is the thematic basis for each movement of this mass. This publication also contains the Ave Maria plainchant in both Gregorian and modern notation.

Normand Gouin has crafted a timeless setting of the Mass. He has set familiar Gregorian chant Ordinary parts—Kyrie XVI in Greek, Gloria VIII in Latin, Mode VI Alleluia, Sanctus XVIII in Latin, ICEL memorial acclamations in English, ICEL Amen (expanded), and Agnus Dei XVIII in Latin—for Assembly, SATB choir, and organ, with optional instrumentation for Flute, Brass Quintet, Percussion, and Strings. The choral parts sometimes support the assembly chant, and sometimes act as halos, deftly embellishing it. The score is in modern notation, and rhythmic values have been treated with great care to preserve the natural flow of chant. A highlight is the Gloria (Missa de Angelis), which alternates assembly chant with original, metered music for the choir based on the chant. Commissioned for the dedication of Christ Cathedral, Orange, CA, in 2019.

Nunc Dimittis was written for the Fall, 2004 tour of Cantori Domino to York, England and performance during Evensong at York Minster. The accompanying Magnificat was written shortly before the completion of the Nunc Dimittis. Whereas the Magnificat was written to be boisterous and celebratory in its rendition, the Nunc Dimittis, utilizing the Gregorian chant as the main theme, evokes a more prayerful attitude with its softer tonalities and rhythms, then ending with a Gloria Patri, similar to the one contained in the Magnificat.

“Lord, Send Out Your Spirit†is based on Veni Creator Spiritus, one of the most familiar Gregorian chants. The chant is sung at Pentecost Vespers, the dedication of a church, and for the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Orders. It is also heard at consistories when the cardinals gather in the Sistine Chapel to elect a new pope. The psalm verses in this setting are appointed for Pentecost Sunday Mass during the Day, as well as being an option for a common responsorial psalm for Pentecost.

Requiem is a powerfully appealing, tender exploration of love and loss. Grounded in tradition while incorporating a present-day harmonic language, two Gregorian Chant motives are interwoven throughout the lush harmonies and soaring melodies. The level of difficulty is within the reach of many choirs and most orchestral players, making it an attractive choice for church or concert hall. A new translation of the traditional text makes it possible to perform the work entirely in English or entirely in Latin. Available accompaniments for piano, organ only, organ and winds, or chamber orchestra. Whether your choir sings a major work twice a year or is looking to try a multi-movement work for the first time, it is an excellent choice for the worship space or concert hall. The work has a flexible duration (28-40 min.) depending on the inclusions optional solo and a cappella movements. 40 min. – Complete – All movements - 34 min. – Without Solo Movements (5 And 9) - 33 min. – Without Unaccompanied Movements (2 and 7) - 28 min. – Without Unaccompanied or Solo Movements (1,3,4,6,9, 10 only) There are 3 accompaniment options: Piano/Organ only; Organ and Winds (5 players + org.); Chamber Orch. In the Shadow of God is the final edition in this series of contemporary settings of the proper introits, adapted from the Gregorian Missal. This edition includes seven musical selections including introits for Ash Wednesday, the five Sundays of Lent, and Holy Thursday. Each of the singable, short melodies includes the antiphon and appointed Psalm verse for each Sunday and will set a tone of reverence and awe for your Lenten celebrations. The mantra-like, repetitive structure also lends them to use in Communion processions without worship aids, or as variable-length post-Communion musical meditations. .
