Conversational Solfege is a dynamic and captivating first-through-eighth grade general music program that enables students to become independent musical thinkers with the help of a rich variety of folk and classical music. It is organized around increasingly complex rhythmic and melodic content. Each new rhythmic or melodic element is discovered first in patterns and then reinforced with folk songs, rhymes, and classical examples. Central to the Conversational Solfege program is the use of music harvested from our rich and diverse American musical history. This variety of music serves as a common thread that spans and bonds generations. Each book contains varied song material so the teacher can select appropriate music for the lower grades or older beginners. This 12-step teaching method carefully brings students from readiness to, ultimately, creating music through inner hearing and then transferring their musical thoughts into notation—in other words, to compose music! This CD provides 14 classical selections referenced in Conversational Solfege Level 2. These examples provide reinforcement for emerging literacy skills, and they also enable students to listen to wonderful classical examples with greater attention. Listening to classical music can be challenging for elementary students. With nothing to hang onto, the many notes can be too much to comprehend and attention soon wanes. But with minimal literacy skills, students will have enough musical information to discover that classical music can be accessible and appealing. In the included booklet, timings are given for each selection and the portions of the music that are readable by the students are reproduced. Whether using this CD with Conversational Solfege instructional materials or simply as a resource of classical music with simple to read rhythmic and melodic material, both teachers and students will delight in discovering this wonderful music through literacy. This series is a complete, innovative approach to teaching music that will stay fresh year after year. CONTENTS Conversational Solfege Unit 5: 1. In the words of Jamaican musicologist Marjorie Whylie, Jamaican folk songs are full of social commentary, censure, and recrimination in a vehicle of humor. This publication includes three charming arrangements for a cappella singers and percussion. One describes a comical scene at a train station; a second playfully questions a neighbor about some missing food; and the third (complete with simple instructions to recreate a ringplay game) cheers a naughty cousin who threw his aunt's coat out the window. A printed guide and online video provide vetted learning tools for the Patois language. Unique, authentic, fun!

This anthem setting of the tune TODOS LOS COLORES from the recent Presbyterian hymnal has a decidedly Latin-American feel, especially with the optional inclusion of guitar, flute, shaker, and claves. The bold text acknowledges that we are divided by hate when we judge each other on our differences, but calls us to remember that we are made in God's image and that we must learn the language of love. Very accessible writing for SATB, and the composer gives instructions for performance by SAB, Two-Part Mixed, SA, or Unison Choirs. Guitar plays from choir score. Duration: 4:00.

Saul, published for the first time in the version conducted by Handel himself. Saul is one of the most dramatic of Handel's oratorios. To a greater extent than almost any other oratorio it reveals with its gripping dramatic power its proximity to opera of its time. The score demands what was at the time Handel's most varied orchestra. The normal opera orchestra of the day was augmented by trombones, harp, solo organ, carillon (Glockenspiel) and large kettledrums. The choir functions for the first time as a central participant in dramatic action, while also undertaking commentating functions as in a Greek tragedy. This new edition makes use for the first time of musical material revealed by the latest Handel research, based as its most important source on the conducting score from which Handel himself directed his performances. Only this research has shown which arias, choruses, recitatives and instrumental pieces, after he had made numerous corrections in his autograph, Handel chose for his performances, and in what order they were given. The result has produced, apart from many changes of details (e.g. autograph instructions concerning the use of the organ), uncommon ordering of individual pieces, and passages with altered notes. Score available separately - see item CA.5505300.

On the 2nd March 1714 Bach, who until then had been employed as a chamber musician and organist at he Court of Duke Wilhelm Ernst in Weimar, was promoted to the position of concert master, and was instructed to relieve the ailing Kapellmeister Johann Samuel Drese by composing and performing new pieces monthly for the church. Following the cantata Himmelskonig, sei willkommen, BWV 182, the present cantate was the second work which Bach composed under the terms of his new contract. The extraordinary musical ambition evident in the first Weimar cantatas may have had its roots in the fact htat Bach aspired to become Drese's successor as Court Kapellmeister. Score available separately - see item CA.3101200.

For SATB and piano or orchestra This arrangement of a traditional American spiritual conjures a deep fervency, belying its simple appearance. The opening instruction is 'With hushed awe', and that encapsulates perfectly the gentle radiance of the tender lyrics and the music's highly singable lines.

UPC: 688670580505. English. Romans 12:9-13.
The tune is original and expansive, the text is an elaboration of Romans 12:9-13. Easy four-part passages and quite a bit of unison singing. (In fact one of the most beautiful moments is the recap of the full melody sung by unison choir.) The text is exhortative, which makes it right for general use or for specific services in which this message of instruction is needed. This piece is sweet and written from the heart.
