Written for an obscure short-lived musical that never made it to Broadway this song caught the ear of Nat King Cole who promptly recorded it in 1956 and it became a lesser-known standard in the great American songbook. It has since been recorded by artists such as Johnny Mathis Dinah Washington Diane Schuur and Diana Krall. Accessible and hard-swinging this is a perfect addition to any male or female quartet or chorus repertoire!

Während das Kind eine enge Beziehung zu den Tieren hat, betrachtet der Onkel seine ganze Umgebung unter dem Aspekt der Brauchbarkeit. Dadurch verliert er den Zugang zu den Gefühlen des Kindes und setzt es in einer Höhle im Wald aus. Jamilah wird von den Tieren gerettet und in die Bärenfamilie aufgenommen. Ihre Freundin, die Wildgans Ayoka, schmiedet jedoch einen Plan, um den Onkel aufzurütteln und zu dem Kind zurückzuführen. Im Mittelpunkt steht das Lied der Eule, worin sie die wesentliche Botschaft des Stückesüberbringt, die schließlich auch die Sichtweise des Jägers ändert. Botschaft des Musicals Ngoma-Bär basiert auf einem nordamerikanischen Indianermärchen. In this psalm of praise the solo soprano and flute begin in a recitative finally joined by choir and instruments in a joyful modulation from C to E major. The organ plays a major role with soprano and flute as running sixteenth notes in the left hand describe God's many and continued blessings. The middle section is a retreat from the driving rhythm reminded by both soprano and flute of the peace of God's healing of sin and disease for all who ask. Once again the music breaks forth into praise as it builds to a final sforzando of exultation in praise of God.
