It takes a historico-critical approach and seeks to document the history of the works and writings by shedding light on their transformations, thus identifying the various versions as witnesses of evolving aesthetic and historical positions. Eislers complete oeuvre (only a limited number of his works had penetrated the publics awareness up until the 1990s) first became the object of an editorial undertaking when the Eisler - Gesammelte Werke (EGW) was founded by Nathan Notowicz. It was later placed under the direction of Manfred Grabs and Eberhardt Klemm, and began issuing its publications in 1968 through the intermediary of the Deutscher Verlag fur Musik in Leipzig. However, only four volumes of music and five volumes of writings were published. The Hanns Eisler Complete Edition pursues the work begun at that time, although it has had to fundamentally revise its editorial principles. In this respect, the Hanns Eisler Complete Edition can be considered as a completely new editorial undertaking. St. Cecilia's Day was celebrated in England during Restoration times with a great festival of music. The soloists were among the best singers of the day, and their music was deliberately florid to show their virtuosity. It is in this tradition that Purcell wrote his festal ,Te Deum and Jubilate'. It was composed for St. Cecilia's Day, 1694, and shows the same ornate style as he odes composed in previous years. It was the grand manner which assured the popularity of the work. After the initial performance, it was given annually on St. Cecilia's day for many years. Alma Mahler (1879-1964) ist ohne Zweifel eine der schillerndsten Personlichkeiten ihrer Zeit, die bis heute nichts an ihrer Faszination verloren hat. ,,Sie gehort zu den ganz wenigen Zauberfrauen, die es gibt, sagte der Schriftsteller Franz Werfel, ihr dritter Ehemann nach Gustav Mahler und Walter Gropius. Manner scheinen ihr Lebensinhalt gewesen zu sein: geniale Manner - mit und ohne Trauschein. Sie selbst liess gern durchblicken, wie lang ihre private Eroberungsliste war ... Alma ist und bleibt ein Unikum der Kulturgeschichte, doch aufgrund ihres Rufes als ,,Femme fatale und ihres extravaganten Wesens wird leider allzu oft ausser Acht gelassen, dass sie selbst wunderbare Kompositionen hervorgebracht hat, sehr gebildet war und die Gabe besass, nicht nur Manner zu verzaubern. In einer Zeit, wo Frauen noch keineswegs gleichberechtigt waren, lebte Alma nach dem Motto: ,,Jeder Mensch kann alles - aber er muss auch zu allem bereit sein. Bei der Komposition der Alma Phantasien habe ich mich von der bemerkenswerten Alma inspirieren lassen, mein Ohr in deren Zeit versetzt und das Gehorte in ihre eigene Tonsprache ubersetzt. Dabei habe ich in meine Kompositionen zwei kurze musikalische Zitate aus Alma Mahlers Werken eingeflochten, namlich aus Die stille Stadt und Ich wandle unter Blumen . Der Text stammt aus Alma Mahlers Tagebucheintragungen und handelt von zwei Mannern, die Alma Mahlers Leben pragten: Alexander Zemlinsky und Gustav Mahler. Die Schreibweise Almas wurde dabei beibehalten. (Manuela Kerer).
