Two dances for flute and harp from Peter Maxwell Davies' ballet Caroline Mathilde.A new instrumentation restores this linked pair of dances from Davies's second full-length ballet Caroline Mathilde based on the story ofthe eighteenth-century British princess sent in marriage to Denmark to the eighteenth-century milieu of the work's setting and musical world. The period manners - a gavotte in the first dance a gigue at the start of the second -are typically overlaid with the composer's Scottishness. In general the harp has an accompanying role but it comes forward alone in the second movement which ends with bravura from both instruments.These two dances were firstperformed in September 1993 at the Northlands Festival by David Nicholson and Eluned Pierce.Score and flute part. QUEEN AND ACE is as the title indicates identical to the two latter movements of the work from 1989 except that the ensemble leaves out trumpet trombone and double bass.

pour deux harpes-French harpist composer and teacher Marcel Tournier (1879-1951) wrote important repertoire for the Harp which expanded the harmonic and technical possibilities of the instrument. His Four Preludes for Two Harps is no exception. Published in 1921 Four Preludes is still performed and recorded by harpists. The first volume comprises the first two preludes in which tonality and rhythm are sublimely experimented with as well as uses of harmonics. Tournier's Four Preludes is suitable for all intermediate to advanced Harp duets seeking to explore varied repertoire on the instrument.

Two solos in jazz idiom for pedal or non-pedal harp-Two solos in the jazz idiom for Pedal or Non-Pedal Harp by Stewart Green. Stewart Green began writing music for the Piano at an early age. Taking up the Viola and Oboe in his teens he later went to the University College of North Wales (Bangor) where he studied composition with among others William Matthias and Reginald Smith Brindle. Gaining a B. Mus. (hons) degree in 1960 he returned to his old school in Richester to teach class and instrumental music. Four years later he enlisted as oboist to the Band of HM Coldstream Guards which opened many doors including performances of his compositions and arrangements in many National venues on discand broadcast by the BBC on Radios 2 & 3. His years at Bangor had enabled him to fulfil a childhood dream of learning the Harp which he was later able to develop when he left the army and moved with his wife Sue and young family to Lowestoft as a peripatetic woodwind tutor for Suffolk County Music Service. His Flights Of Fancy and Blistering Along! appear on ABRSM and Trinity College Harp examination syllabuses while the Spartan Press publication Saxofun is on Suffolk's own exam syllabus. Since 1999 Stewart has been senior Woodwind Tutor for Suffolk and since 2002 Harp tutor as well! Stewart's recent publication She'll Be Comin' Round The Mountain was written for the North Suffolk String Orchestra as was Haunted House. Spookily this received its first performance at Lowestoft accompanied by a July Thunderstorm!

The ?Flower Duet? is from the 1883 opera Lakme by Leo Delibes. Normally sung by 2 women Sylvia has arranged this lovely song for solo harp. Although you may not be familiar with the title of his lyrical pieces you have probably heard it in commercials for companies such as Ghirardelli Chocolate and British Airways. The sheet music includes two 2-page versions both in the key of A (3 sharps). They are basically the same except that oneis for lever harps tuned to C and the other requires a B-flat. Fingerings are included as well as lever and pedal changes. For intermediate players. Playable on lever harps and pedal harps.

Castle on a Cloud is sung by the child Cosette in Les Misérables. It is a hopeful song of her imaginary world where life is beautiful and she is not subjected to the drudgery of her hard existence. Sylvia Woods has arranged this lilting song for lever or pedal harp. There are 7 lever changes in the piece so it is for lower intermediate to intermediate level players. Fingerings and lyrics are included as well as lever and pedal changes. Two 2-page versions are included: one for lever harps tuned to C and the other for lever harps tuned to flats. Pedal harpists can play either version. The arrangement for lever harps tuned to C is in the key of D (2 sharps) with A and Clever changes needed. The arrangement for lever harps tuned to flats is in the key of C with B and G lever changes needed. Either version may be played on most small harps with about 26 strings if you play everything an octave higher than written. There are special instructions in the introduction telling you what you'll need to change if you have a small harp.

The title refers to the poetic stanzas but also to invisible spaces to be inhabited with the mind. One day my friend Cecilia Chailly calls me and asks me if I have a harp piece for her to play. I give her Vega to try. Two days later I go to her house to listen and, with mutual enthusiasm, I give her all the pieces that we will soon be recording.
