Ernest Chausson's Piano Trio In G Minor Op. 3. Score and parts. Following his early elimination from the Paris Conservatoire's sought-after award for students of composition the “Prix deRome” Ernest Chausson withdrew to the country in summer 1881 and began composing this ambitious work – out of defiance so to speak. During his lifetime the trio remained an insider’s tip amongst thoseclose to his teacher César Franck. It was only after its posthumous publication that it was performed more frequently and was gradually recognized as being one of the best chamber music works of its time. ThePiano Trio In G Minor Op. 3 is closely based on Franck’s principle of the cyclic interleaving of all motives yet still has dark and melancholy inflections all of its own. The Henle Urtext edition is thefirst critical edition and is a welcome addition to their collection of French music.

Schubert only took ten days to write his String Quartet in G major one of his truly monumental chamber music works. With its almost symphonic dimensions this late quartet is reminiscent of his greatString Quintet in C major. As divulged in a letter Schubert actually wanted to 'pave the way for the large symphony' with this quartet and several other chamber music works that he composed around the same time. Writtenin 1826 the quartet was not performed in public during the composer’s lifetime; and it was only published long after his death. This Urtext edition with its accompanying study edition is therefore based on the survivingautograph.

Thusits authenticity has been called into question time and again. According to the latest research however this tone sensitive sonata is presumed to be an original work by Bach. The violin part is to be played in scordatura according to the source so this version has provided a part in original notation as well as in standardnotation for regularly tuned violins.

The entire four movements of Henry Eccles’ Sonata in G Minor for ViolonCello and Piano remain in the key of G minor with many long expressive phrases and some moments of fleet-fingered delight.Henry Eccles was a Violinist and composer of the Baroque era who was a musician to King William and Queen Mary and a member of the Royal Band of Queen Anne. The Duke d’Aumont brought him to Paris where he entered the service of King Louis XIV. In 1720 Eccles published a book of sonatas for Violin and figured bass from which renowned English composer Malcolm Lipkin has created this arrangement for ‘Cello and Piano.

Zusammen mit den Trios von Mendelssohn und Brahms zahlen die vier Kompositionen Schumanns zu den wichtigsten Werken der Gattung im 19. Jahrhundert.
