Par DUTILLEUX HENRI. Composed between 1973 and 1976, Ainsi La Nuit for a String Quartet is one of the most important works of its genre, by Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013), a French composer. This score of Ainsi La Nuit is the conductor's score, with the four instruments altogether. The score for each individual instrument can be bought separately. Commissioned by the Koussevitzky Foundation for the Juilliard Quartet, Ainsi La Nuit is based on a series of studies, lasts 18 minutes and is divided into 7 sections: 1. Nocturne 2. Temps suspendu Built on single hexachords, it also use the octatonic mode and focus on harmonies, contrasts and oppositions of register. Henri Dutilleux was internationally acclaimed for his work winning prizes such as the Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society and the UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers, among many others. Performing edition of Walton's String Quartet in A minor based on the edition published in the Walton Edition Chamber Music volume. The work was first performed in 1947 and later revised as the Sonata for String Orchestra.

Gian Francesco Malipiero (1882-1973) was an Italian composer musicologist and editor. He drew on his extensive research into Italian musical history when he wrote his first String Quartet Rispetti EStrambotti in 1920. It pays tribute to the two forms of early Italian poetry in the title but also depicts wider themes from Renaissance music from free polyphony to operatic recitatives. However the structure of thepiece is distinctly modern deliberately attempting to break with the all-pervading Sonata form and the wider Romantic Movement in general. The result is a memorable mesmerising construction that is modern and dramatic butwith a fusion of undeniably medieval flavours.

From Concerto For Violin and Oboe-This excellent String Quartet arrangement of Bach's much-loved concerto for Violin and Oboe is straightforward and accessible technically to reasonably good players as there are no tricky rhythms or high notes.
