Orchestra Soli STB, SATB Choir, Picc, 2 Fl, 2 Ob, 2 Clt, 4 Fg, 4 Cor, 2 Pist, 2 Tr, 3 Trb, Perc, Arpa, 2 Vl, Va, Vc, Cb, Org SKU: CA.2709503 Composed by Charles Francois Gounod. Edited by Frank Hondgen. Sacred vocal music, Masses, Latin, Whole church year / Omni tempore. Vocal score. CG 56. 72 pages. Duration 45 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.095/03. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2709503). ISBN 9790007186876. Language: Latin. Shining rays stream from the 'Messe de sainte Cecile'. At first people were dazzled, then bewitched, then overcome. This is how the composer Camille Saint-Saens described his impression of what was probably Charles Gounod's best-known setting of the mass. The work written in 1855 in honor of the patron saint of church music, soon became well-known beyond the borders of France and acquired a degree of popularity like almost no other sacred composition. In the Messe de sainte Cecile, Gounod combines sublime simplicity with operatic-dramatic elements and a colorful, effective orchestration. Critical edition in proven Carus quality. Orchestra Soli SATB, SATB Choir, 2 Fl, 2 Eh, 2 Tr, 3 Trb, 2 Vl, Va, Vc, Cb, Arpa, organ, organ ripieno SKU: CA.2706005 Composed by Camille Saint-Saens. Edited by Dieter Zeh. Arranged by Sven Hiemke. Sacred vocal music, Masses, Latin, Whole church year / Omni tempore. Choral Score. Composed 1856. Op. 4. 20 pages. Duration 45 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.060/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2706005). ISBN 9790007187095. Language: Latin. Carus-Verlag is now publishing this early work by Camille Saint-Saens in a critical new edition. Among the sacred works by Saint-Saens there are just two settings of the mass: the Messe de Requiem op. 54 from his middle period (1878), and the Mass op. 4 dating from 1856. This was first performed on 21 April 1857. Camille Saint-Saens was a devoted follower of historicism as part of the reform movement in French church music. This is more evident in the mass published here than anywhere else. The model for this work is the unison Messe Royale by Henry DuMont (1610-1683). Saint-Saens combined its Gregorian style in a convincing manner with contemporary elements of Romantic composition, an expressive chromaticism, which determines the harmonic progression. Alongside the orchestral forces, the Grand Orgue plays an important role. Used as a solo instrument, it is an equal partner in the composition. Edited by Fritz Naf. Requiem Op. 54. Sacred vocal music, Requiem. Choral Score. Composed 1878. Op. 54. 16 pages. Duration 35 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.317/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2731705). ISBN 9790007182083. Language: Latin. During his most productive period as an opera composer, Camille Saint-Saens also wrote sacred works, among which his Oratorio de Noel has enjoyed great worldwide popularity. The colorful and opulently orchestrated Messe de Requiem was composed in 1878 in Bern. The composer dedicated it to his patron, Albert Libon. We have published this edition both with its larger orchestral forces and to enable perfomances of the Requiem in slightly reduced scoring (without losing the special characteristics of the work), in a version with a smaller orchestra consisting of 11 winds, two harps, organ and string instruments. The full score reproduces the Urtext of the Requiem with its original scoring, whereas the performance material is presented and conceived so to enable it to be performed either in the original orchestration or the version with reduced forces. Alto, Mixed choir (SATB), Piano SKU: BA.BA11309 Composed by Camille Saint...(+)
Alto, Mixed choir (SATB), Piano SKU: BA.BA11309 Composed by Camille Saint-Saens. Edited by Christina M. Stahl. This edition: urtext edition. Paperback. Score. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA11309. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA11309). ISBN 9790006577705. 27 x 19 cm inches. Text Language: English. It is a small music history sensation: Thanks to Yves Grard an unknown and unpublished manuscript penned by Camille Saint-Saëns has been unearthed in the Mdiathèque Jean Renoir in Dieppe in France.
It is the top four instrumental parts which make this manuscript something of a sensation. Placed under each other are â??Saxophone Soprano en Si bâ?, â??Saxophone Alto en Mi bâ?, â??Saxophone Tnor en Si bâ? and â??Saxophone Baryton en Mi bâ?, strings, soprano solo with chorus and organ. Musical history has hitherto credited Jean-Baptiste Singele (1812â??1875) with having written the first saxophone quartet, his opus 53, which he completed in 1857. Now this historiography clearly has to be revised. The date 1854 has been found under the first page of the treasure from Dieppe, which is pasted over and also sewn, meaning that Saint-Saënsâ?? work was written three years earlier than that of Singele.
In contrast to Singele, Saint-Saëns does not have the wind instruments taking solo parts but rather uses their tonal colour to depict textual moods and nuances. On the one hand the saxophones accompany the choral parts (certainly singable by amateurs) and support the human voices in fugal passages. On the other hand, they take the melody in the purely orchestral passages.
Saint-Saëns wrote the motet in the period when he had taken up his first permanent appointment as organist at the Church of Saint-Merri in Paris. He revised the work several times over the decades, changing the motifs at the beginning, correcting obvious mistakes, reworking the ending, eventually changing the instrumentation several times and even â?? probably in the final stage â?? replacing the Latin text with an English one. Today, three-and-a-half versions have been handed down, one of them stopping after just a few pages. The compositional steps have been successfully reconstructed by means of detailed detective work. Furthermore, the first saxophone version (BA 11305) and the last English piano version (BA 11309) have been edited to produce a scholarly-critical edition.
The present edition of the English version for soprano solo, choir and piano (BA 11309) serves both as a full score and as a vocal score due to the instrumentation.

SSATB Choir, Piano SKU: CA.926400 Composed by Camille Saint-Saens. Arranged by Denis Rouger, Denis Rouger. Carus digital: Extra digital products. Full Score. Composed 1862. Op. 13, No. 1. Duration 5 minutes. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.926400). ISBN 9790007261870. French. Text: Victor Hugo. In his poem Soiree en mer, Victor Hugo describes how the sea can be perceived very differently by two lovers at the same time in the same place. While the man perceives the deepening shadows on the dancing waves, the woman marvels at the stars shining ever brighter in the firmament. In nature, as in the words of the poem, the painful ambiguity that represents life at its core can be experienced. Like no other poet, Hugo captures this almost unbearable simultaneity of living and dying, of love and suffering. Saint-Saens translates this into music - probably the most ephemeral and contemporary of all art forms. His balanced musical form leaves plenty of room for the poetry and his subtle variations in timbre, which also inspired Denis Rouger to his choral arrangement, create a seething motion under the surface of the sea.
This art song was originally composed not for chamber choir, but for solo voice and piano. Denis Rouger has carefully adapted it to suit the requirements and expressive possibilities offered by a larger ensemble, without losing any of the qualities of the original in the process. Each part in the choir has a melodic line drawn from the harmonic and rhythmic framework. In the process, the variety and refinement of the choral language combines with an enormous flexibility in form and expression, as French melodies or German art song demand from a soloist and pianist. The songs have been recorded by the figure humaine chamber choir on the CD ...wo die Ztronen bluhn (Carus 83.514). $7.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks | | |

Psalm 137 'Super flumina Babylonis' also known as 'By the rivers of Babylon' was an inspiration for many composers including Camille Saint-Saëns. He repeatedly occupied himself with his psalm motet for solo soprano, mixed choir, saxophone quartet, string orchestra and organ, originally composed in 1854. Two of the four versions ? the first version in Latin and a much later version in English for alto solo, SATB choir and piano ? are now available for the first time in Urtext performing editions taking a meticulous account of all the sources. Saint-Saëns lived up to his reputation as an innovative composer by exploring the use of the saxophone family in sacred music just a few years after the invention of these instruments. The successful combination of voice and saxophone creates a special sound experience. / Date parution : 2023-07-31/ Répertoire / Soprano, SATB et Ensemble
