| Aletheia for mixed choir Choral SATB Fennica Gehrman
Mixed choir SKU: FG.55011-857-7 Composed by ŽibuoklÄ— MartinaitytÄ...(+)
Mixed choir SKU: FG.55011-857-7 Composed by Žibuoklė Martinaitytė. Classical, contemporary. Book. Fennica Gehrman #55011-857-7. Published by Fennica Gehrman (FG.55011-857-7). Žibuoklė Martinaitytė tells about the background of Aletheia (2022) for mixed choir (SSSSAAAATTTTBBBB): Aletheia is variously translated from Greek as unconcealedness, revealing or unclosedness. It is uncovering of the Truth - the one we are afraid to face, the truth that can only be expressed directly through the pre-verbal communication. How do you find words for the horrors of the war, for all unimaginable global atrocities? How do you even allow yourself to feel it out? Solely through art, through music that offer a safe space and a formalized framework for processing these accumulated complex emotions and sharing them with others in a moment. This piece has no verbal text and it is based on various combinations of vowels and consonants, thus connecting us on a deeper level through the immediate emotional experience.
The war in Ukraine in spring of 2022 had an impact on all of us and shattered my deeply rooted Lithuanian identity. When the freedom is threatened and innocent people are dying, it is hard to make sense out of the reality. Yet there is poetry even in the worst nightmares. I was imagining that the only instrument people have even in situations of destruction, in the midst of the war, is their VOICE. It brought back memories of my youth when Singing revolution was taking place in the Baltic countries. Human voice was the only weapon that people used to express their determination for freedom and independence. Voice is our first and the very last instrument we have in our lifetime. Thinking in these terms brings almost a sacred dimension to the voice as an expression of the life itself - from the very first baby's scream until the last breath and whisper.
Duration c. 15'
The works of New York -based Lithuanian composer Žibuoklė Martinaitytė (b. 1973) have been lauded as breathtaking and profoundly moving. Her stimulating music bristles with energy and tension and revolves often around the subject of beauty, which she calls both a guiding principle and an aesthetic measure for sonic quality. $18.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Imbued with calmness and sensuality, the church music composition is based on the text of a Latin antiphon from the Maundy Thursday liturgy. | Jarba, Mare Jarba Choral SATB Carl Fischer
Choral SATB choir SKU: CF.CM9700 Composed by Hungarian Folk. Arranged by ...(+)
Choral SATB choir SKU: CF.CM9700 Composed by Hungarian Folk. Arranged by Stacy Garrop. 20 pages. Duration 4:44. Carl Fischer Music #CM9700. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.CM9700). ISBN 9781491160008. UPC: 680160918607. Key: A minor. Hungarian. Hungarian Folk. In 2014, Chanticleer commissioned me to make a new arrangement of the Hungarian-Romani folk song Jarba, Mare Jarba for their 2014 touring program. Passed down orally through the Romani communities, this beautiful folk song, with text in a language called Beas (beh-osh), speaks of a deep longing to visit one's homeland, a place where the singer can never return. Chanticleer consists of twelve men whose vocal ranges span from low bass to high soprano, equivalent to the range of a mixed choir of women and men. I composed slow sections of original material to represent the singers' longing to return home; these are interspersed with the folk song's traditional fast sections. The incorporated shouts and calls in the score are typically found in the performance of Central European folk songs. I hope you enjoy singing this new version of Jarba, Mare Jarba that contains all of the vigor and excitement of the Chanticleer version. PERFORMANCE NOTES All spoken sounds (indicated by x noteheads) should be performed by individuals. Feel free to elaborate with more sounds of your own in the tradition of Eastern European folk music. If the piece is memorized, feel free to experiment with clapping on the off-beats of m. 93 to the end. SATB chorus, piano SKU: CA.402600 Composed by Anton Bruckner. Edited by Simon Halsey, Jan Schumacher. Gattungen vokal: Secular choral music. Choral collection. Carus Verlag #402600. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.402600). ISBN 9790007294045. German. At times Romantic, at other times with a jazzy touch, the Choral collection Bruckner. Secular choral music is full of exciting discoveries and new arrangements at various levels of difficulty. Anton Bruckner’s secular choral music is often overshadowed by his great symphonies and sacred choral works – unfairly, as choral experts Simon Halsey and Jan Schumacher prove with their small but fine selection of choral music inspired by secular texts. Bruckner left only a few movements for mixed choir; instead, his music for male voices constitutes a far larger body of work. For this collection, renowned arrangers from Germany, England, Denmark, and Italy have specially reworked the most beautiful of these choral movements for SATB, enabling this great repertoire to be performed by mixed choirs. Two original SATB compositions are also included. Furthermore, the choral collection features arrangements of songs originally written for solo voice and piano with texts by such poets as Heinrich Heine and Emanuel Geibel. Another highlight is an arrangement of the Adagio from Bruckner’s String Quintet WAB 112, which Heribert Breuer has created for choir to a text by Georg Trakl.- 16 SATB settings, several with keyboard accompaniment- Selected by Simon Halsey and Jan Schumacher- Modern SATB arrangements of male-voice works and solo songs, as well as original compositions - Affordable complete volume (editionCHOR) as well as separate editions available in print and digitally.- Introductory price valid until 31.10.2023, then 27.00 EUR (editionCHORLEITUNG) and 15.00 EUR (editionCHOR, minimum order: 20 copies) $29.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Mixed choir SKU: CA.210300 Composed by Various. Edited by Stefan Schuck. Sacred vocal music, Psalms, German, Psalms, Latin. Choral collections. Conductor's score, with CD. Sacred vocal music, Psalms, German, Psalms, Latin. Choir Book. Carus Verlag #CV 02.103/00. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.210300). ISBN 9790007244668. The Choral Collection Psalms contains over 50 settings for mixed unaccompanied choir from six centuries. It is a true treasure-trove of compositions in various styles and levels of difficulty: with some unknown new discoveries and some classics of the choral literature, the selection will enrich both worship and concerts. The 150 psalms of the Old Testament express rejoicing, joy, confidence, but also lament, grief, anger, and even doubt. The psalms are present throughout Christianity and Judaism to this day, and are sung worldwide in countless settings. The Choral Collection Psalms displays the whole stylistic and linguistic variety ranging from contemplative, simple Anglican chant through Russian Orthodox homophony to virtuoso motets with jazzy echoes. The linguistic spectrum is equally broad: English, French, German (some with added singable English translation), Estonian, Icelandic and, of course, Latin psalm settings are represented, as well as works in Church Slavonic and Hebrew (both accompanied by transliterations and a singable German text). The foreword (German / English) offers many hints regarding the performance of the psalm settings, and a detailed index will help with choosing appropriate pieces for the liturgical occasion according to the Anglican, Protestant, or Catholic calendar. Over the last ten years editor Stefan Schuck has performed two psalm compositions every week in his NoonSong series in Berlin. From the resulting 800 works, he has selected the most interesting compositions arranged according to level of difficulty. The choral director's volume includes a CD with recordings of selected works, sung by sirventes and conducted by the editor, which will help with learning and rehearsing the repertoire. over 50 psalm settings from six centuries for worship and concert use stylistic variety and mixed levels of difficulty: from Anglican Chant to virtuoso motets for four-part mixed choir, some with organ/piano accompaniment transliterations and German singing texts help with practising cross-cultural repertoire liturgical classification of all settings for Catholic, Protestant, and Anglican lectionary includes many unknown jewels such as Boze, Boze moj (Cesar Cui), Jauschew be seser eljaun (David Rubin), and Schubert's setting of Psalm 23 in the first Hebrew version CD recording (sirventes berlin, cond. SATB Chorus, a cappella SKU: SU.80101359 For SATB Chorus, a cappella(+)
SATB Chorus, a cappella SKU: SU.80101359 For SATB Chorus, a cappella. Composed by Carson Cooman. Vocal/Choral, Sacred Choral. Choral Octavo. Zimbel Press #80101359. Published by Zimbel Press (SU.80101359). Commissioned by King’s Chapel, Boston, Massachusetts, in celebration of its 325th anniversary, this longer a cappella work uses a text assembled and adapted from various Biblical passages. From the composer's introduction: The anthem begins grandly with words from Psalm 89 celebrating God’s all-encompassing faithfulness and love. An alleluia refrain follows and returns several times throughout the work. However, it is not a majestic, Handelian alleluia, but rather one of inward passion and fervent introspection. The next section begins joyously with the familiar prophesy from Zechariah; it is followed by several brief Gospel scenes from the life of Jesus. After another alleluia, words of blessing from Psalm 103 are set vigorously before the work closes with a final alleluia. Full Score- Tarik O'Regan's Mass Observation was commissioned for the University of Michigan Chamber Choir Jerry Blackstone conductor thanks to support from the William K. and Delores S. Brehm Choral Commissioning Fund and the Barbara Abramoff Levy Fund. Composer's note: Mass Observation is a meditation on the histories of our varied ambivalent relationships with surveillance in its myriad guises. The use of technologies that sate our desires to be watchedand heard (safety tracking empowerment and pride) has in some sense always been able to be weighed against our anxieties around invasions of privacy (physical and psychological harm hacking subjugation and embarrassment). The work takes its title from the British social research organisation Mass-Observation which aimed to record everyday life in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1937 Mass-Observation controversially paid investigators to anonymously record people's conversation and behaviour at work on the street and at various public occasions including public meetings sporting and religious events. Scored for chorus and percussion sextet Mass Observation ebbs and flows between various polarities (human voices and percussion instruments pitched and unpitched sounds clear and opaque tonalities) over the course of its thirteen movements. There is a ritualistic nature to the overall pacing of the work reminiscent of a liturgical mass setting. The two groups of musicians are rarely aligned: for much of the piece they watch and listen to one another in silence. Duration approximately: 40 Minutes

Par MACMILLAN JAMES. A setting of passages from the Book of Revelation, with particular reference to the angels who appear with seven trumpet blasts, heralding a series of apocalyptic scenes. Commissioned by Jeffrey Skidmore, director of Ex Cathedra, and first performed by them at Birmingham Town Hall in 2015. The composer states, ?There is a vividness and strangeness in these dramatic texts, which are endlessly fascinating and disturbing. The instruments used here are based on the various instrumental types mentioned throughout scripture ? trumpets, harp, bells, cymbals, tabor, rebec.? These are scored for mostly in their modern forms, but shofars (Jewish ritual temple trumpets) and early trumpets are also used. The choral writing shows a similar contrast between traditional and contemporary scoring, with polyphony and homophony alongside extended vocal techniques, including Sprechstimme. Leading choral director Paul Spicer comments, ?This is an extremely dramatic work which draws the listener into the apocalyptic story line ? The ending is cataclysmic.? / Niveau : Difficile / Date parution : 2022-11-08/ Répertoire / Choeur SATB et Piano

POD Vocal Score-St. Mark Passion is a work by John Joubert for two Tenor and three Baritone soloists SATB Chorus Solo Cello and Organ. First performed in Wells Cathedral on Palm Sunday 20th March 2016 by Wells Cathedral Choir it was commissioned by 'Cathedral Commissions' of Wells Cathedral. A full performance lasts around 45 minutes and this is the Vocal Score. 'The work lasts about 45 minutes and rather like the St. Mark Passion by Charles Wood uses various pre-existant hymns to fulfill a similar function to the chorales in Bach's Passions. The scoring of solo Cello and Organ is skillfully handled so that the quasi-recitativenarrations feature both instruments to varying degrees the Cello often taking lead balancing the inevitably greater presence of the Organ in the hymns. Joubert's choice of hymns is impeccable (plainsong Bach Gibbons...) ending with 'When I survey the wondrous cross' and the idiom of the freely composed sections is given consistency through use of a gently undulating motif to accompany Christ's words (reminiscent of the opening of Vaughan William's Symphony no.5) and a chromatic motif in agitated sections (which happens to be the same as Shostakovich's DSCH theme). Although considerable demands are made on the instrumentalists and lead soloists the choral writing is rarely difficult and could be tackled by many choirs; I have no doubt that the work would be extremely effective in performance.' - Geoffrey Webber Choir & Organ Magazine

To Nocturner (2001) - for Chamber Choir (12 or 24 Voices). Texts by Ole Sarvig and Ib Michael. English version available: KP01444E Programme note: These two choral pieces for 12 voices consists of radical recompositions on of earlier themes: in Summer's Sleep we hear new combinations of two 'Sarvig melodies' from the 1970s (one of which is now in the Danish Hymnbook under the title 'Året' The Year); Michael's Night is based on an earlier simple choral song (Star Mirror 1987) now for 12 voices and composed such that an original idea of 'simultaneously displaced opposite motions' cf. the poem)comes out as desired. Of the Nocturnes Nørgård writes: 'Summer's Sleep was composed to stanzas of Ole Sarvig's poem The Year (from the collection Forstadsdigte ('Suburban Poems')) and forms the picture of 'the summer of life' which is asleep - while the 'heaven seed' waits for the summer wind ('invisible to every mind'). The many layers of text are expressed musically in a multilayered choral texture with 'looks' up and down through the various tempo and time-worlds: summer sleep summer dream. 'The second nocturne Michael's Night takes its name from the author Ib Michael whose poem Star Mirror (from the collection Himmelbegravelse ('Sky Funeral') (1986) I pushed/coaxed him to expand from one to nine stanzas. The four selected stanzas set in the nocturne focus on the pan-erotic elements of the moonlit starlit night. With the titles I have chosen I have stressed the mythic layer of the text the summer night not as a dream but as sensual reality. 'The two nocturnes are dedicated to Ivan Hansen on the occasion of his fiftieth birthday on 25th February 2003 out of gratitude for over a quarter of a century of inspiring collaboration'.

Blake Fragments was written for performance in Frank Lloyd Wright's iconic Guggenheim Museum in New York City and calls for the solo voices to be placed in various positions on the concentric rings that rise up from the central rotunda. In subsequent performances this configuration will generally be impossible but the soloist arrangement that was used is included should performers like to respond in some fashion to the original arrangement. The piece may be performed with the four soloists singing within the main chorus though some spacial separation on a single level or additionally using a balcony or backstage might better dupicate the original intentions. To allow fordifferent positions the four solo parts may be sung by more than four choral members (in the premiere there were two different sopranos covering the soprano part.)

The short motet is scored for four Voices SSSA or SSST or TTTB unaccompanied and displays Palestrina’s gift for transcendent solemnity.Palestrina is one of the towering figures of late Renaissance church music whose polyphoniccompositions remain actively performed in the Choral repertoire. He composed more than 250 motets. This one Alma Redemptor Mater for four Voices is not known to have been published during his lifetime but has been found inmanuscript form in the Collegio Romano in Rome. In 1545 the Council of Trent set out to reform various practices in the Roman Catholic Church in defense of the threats of the new Protestant movement. Clarity of scriptural wordswas one of the issues at stake especially as the polyphonic style of which Palestrina was a master overlaid many Vocal lines creating complex textures. It is possible that this motet was written following the new guidelinesof the Council.

Tudor and Stuart monarchs reigned during a period of political and ecclesiastical turmoil out of which occurred profound developments in musical style.Tudor Anthems (the term loosely applied to cover the years 1520 to 1640) anthologises some of the finest English musical works of that era. It includes sacred works of various lengths and standards of difficulty for mixed voice choir accompanied and unaccompanied by an array of composers including Byrd Dering Gibbons Morley Mundy Parsons Philips Smith Taverner and Tomkins.A comprehensive collection and indispensable resource for any choir's library prepared in an easilyunderstood performing edition by Lionel Pike.'This is an excellent book. It offers variety the familiar and the less so all levels of difficulty and excellent value. Choirs who invest in a set could cover this aspect of their repertoire for years to come.'Andrew Gant (Choir & Organ - March/April 2011) 'A new Tudor anthem anthology will inevitably invite comparison with the popular Oxford Book of Tudor Anthems but Lionel Pike's collection largely avoids overlap with the OUP book and its contents certainly do not disappoint.' Matthew O'Donovan (Early Music Today - March/May 2011)'For many choirs and choral societies the Oxford Book of Tudor Anthems has been a standard source for this wonderful repertoire since it was first published in 1978. This new edition from Novello is now a serious competitor (why have we had to wait so long!). At almost the same price as the OUP volume and with 50 anthems (OUP had 34) this anthology is remarkable value for money. Before considering the contents it is worth mentioning its weight. My choir complains at holding the New Church Anthem Book and this is the same weight as the NCAB paperback (i.e. over a kilogram) and almost A4 in size. Lionel Pike

Howells' 1955 Mass for Chorus Strings and Organ. Vocal score with keyboard reduction. An English Mass is a concert setting of the ordinary of the Mass in the English translation. Although it concludes with the Gloria as in a Prayerbook Communion service it was designed for concert use and is dedicated to Harold Darke and the St Michael's Singers. The original scoring was for strings and organ but a later version with woodwind and timpani is used this evening of this rarely heard work. Those familiar with the sound of Howells' church music will find the same textures here - long strands of expressive melody supported by rich harmony in thick textures and climaxes oftremendous ecstasy. Like so much of the English choral repertory the work begins and ends quietly achieving maximum intensity at various points in between.

Par SCHREKER FRANZ. Franz Schreker had a long and close association with choral music. As founder and director of Vienna's Philharmonic Chorus he led world premieres and first performances of works by contemporary composers. It is surprising, therefore, that Schreker wrote relatively few independent choral works; only three of these works [with various scorings] were published in his lifetime. Now, for the first time this critical edition, prepared by Christopher Hailey, director of the Franz Schreker Foundation, makes available a body of works that sheds new light on Schreker’s musical evolution and, in its own right, constitutes a notable addition to twentieth-century choral literature. / Mottet / Répertoire / Choeur Mixte
