This hymn was commissioned by â??Antwerpen 93â?. And this city, on the banks of the river Schelde has been nominated â??Cultural Capital of Europeâ? for 1993. The work-group â??animatieâ? took the initiative and commissioned a hymn, which -as the finale to a grand open-air event on 27th March- was premièred by hundreds of musicians from all over Europe. Philippe Langlet (France) was the conductor at this majestic occasion.Musically speaking the piece can no doubt be labeled easy. Indeed it is meant to represent a hymn, playable by all in different instrumental combinations. Consequently a variable instrumentation was chosen and a type of music, which by native is easily accessible anduncomplicated. The conductor is free -in the instrumentation- to score this piece according to his own taste. It is perhaps advisable to use the sharp brass in the forte parts, in order to make the range in the sound of the orchestra as colouful as possible. The percussion parts are not absolutely essential, so that the hymn can also be performed without percussion.

Psalm 150 calls out to sing the praise of God on various instruments. Many composers have set this text to music, including Cesar Franck. Nevertheless, Franck, who worked as an organist in Paris for many years and wrote many orchestral works and oratorios, left only a few works on Biblical texts in a large setting. Franck wrote his setting of Psalm 150 in 1883 for the inauguration of the organ in a home for the blind in Paris. The basically simple, homophonic choral writing was conceived with the young students in mind. Franck regularly articulated the texture of the full orchestra with percussion and harp entries evocative of tone-painting. It is a short, effective work that has been making a strong impact at many choral concerts ever since its publication by Breitkopf & Hartel in 1896.

The series 'Unterwegs mit der Querflöte' (Out and About With the Flute) is for children from the age of 5 learning to play the flute in one-to-one lessons or in pairs. The main aim has been to keep the book as concise as possible and to leave out any information which doesn't directly concern the pupil. The key features: - Simple explanations - easy for children from the age of 5 to follow - Four icons show what to do - without any fancy words - Playing duets and from memory right from the start - for holistic music-making - Ample additional material - numerous pieces, piano accompaniments and exercises together with the complete teacher's book and a parent's supplement are available online free of charge at: www.holzschuh-verlag.de/unterwegs Volume 2 - Rund um die Welt (Around the World): focuses mainly on the important topic of overblowing and on essential basics in music. Not only do pupils continue to practise playing from memory but they also progress now to the matter of transposing. The pieces become longer and more complex but the explanations still remain concise. The volume ends with pupils internalising the G-major scale and the addition of f-sharp^2 in a range going from d' - g^2.

With this work, composer Jacob de Haan depicts a procession of the inhabitants of the Basque town Zumarraga to the hermitage of Santa Mar a La Antigua in the mountains nearby. The music, that has carefully been built around therepeated rhythm of the town’s name, varies from meditative and hymn-like to emotional and powerful. Thus, it is a atmospheric piece with plenty of musical appeal.

Dedicated to Anthony McGill, Principal Clarinet, New York PhilharmonicClarinet Duration: 5'30 Composed: 2020 Published by: Subito Music Publishing PROGRAM NOTE: The year 2020 has definitely been a very challenging year with many upheavals. During this time of the COVID-19 health crisis, wearing masks, and high racial tensions, I decided to compose four short solo woodwind works for flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon, which represent the core woodwind section in an orchestra. I was inspired to compose these short pieces after I first heard Igor Stravinsky's three short pieces for clarinet, which totals a little more than four minutes in duration. I thought that it would be nice to highlight and honor my African-American male colleagues in the orchestral music world. I wanted to celebrate the fact that they are the principal player in the section of their respective orchestras. The short pieces are as follows: Principal Brother No. 1 for flute solo for Demarre McGill, Principal Flute of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Principal Brother No. 2 for oboe solo for Titus Underwood, Principal Oboe of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Principal Brother No. 3 for clarinet solo for Anthony McGill, Principal Clarinet of the New York Philharmonic, and Principal Brother No. 4 for bassoon solo for Bryan Young, Principal Bassoon of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra. These works all begin with notes that are representative of their name; D for Demarre, B for Titus (ti in solfège starting on C), A for Anthony, and Bb for Bryan. There is also a rhythmic figure in the opening measures of each piece, which represent the utterance of their names. All four of these works are rhapsodic in nature with elements of improvisation. - James Lee III.

Johann Sebastian Bach was able to appreciate good works by other composers, as is shown by contemporary accounts, and by a glimpse into what remains of his music library. Francesco Durante, maestro di cappella in Naples, was known in his time as an accomplished composer, who in his sacred works sought to achieve accommodation between the strict stile antico and the stile moderno of concert music at that time. This combination distinguishes his Mass in C minor, and it may have been what awakened Johann Sebastian Bach's interest in this work. He copied it about 1730, not merely for study purposes but in order to perform it, as is indicated by various alterations which he made to the composition. Bach replaced the Christe by a composition of his own, and for the Kyrie II he used Durante's music for the Gloria, making the alterations required by the different words. A worthwhile discovery! Score and part available separately - see item CA.3500800.

Every violinist whoundertakes a lifetime’s journey with this incredible repertoireis continually discovering new ideas. Thus, theopinions on the following pages may evolve over time. However, everything in the sheet music closely follows my2016 recording “Testament: Complete Sonatas and Partitasfor Solo Violin by J.S. All of these markings aredesigned to work with a baroque violin and baroque bow,a modern violin and baroque bow, or a modern violinand modern bow. While the information in this editionis unusually dense, there is much that I did not include, such as lifts, breaths, articulations, whether to play on oroff the string, metronome markings, details of timing, and emphases other than hemiolas.I offer this book to you in the spirit of Bach: “SoliDeo Gloria.â€.
