Anton Bruckner (1824-1896). Par BRUCKNER ANTON / DOSS THOMAS (Arr.). Anton Bruckner (b. 4.9.1824, Ansfelden, d. 11.10.1896, Vienna) didn?t have it easy. Throughout his life, the Austrian composer was plagued by self-doubt. Anton Bruckner came from a simple, rural background. After the death of his father, he was accepted as a choirboy at the monastery of Sankt Florian in 1837. After several years as a school assistant and his own organ and piano studies, he first worked as organist in St. Florian, then from 1855 as cathedral organist in Linz. Introduced to music theory and instrumentation by Simon Sechter and Otto Kitzler, he discovered Richard Wagner as an artistic role model, whom he admired throughout his life and also visited several times in Bayreuth. In 1868 Anton Bruckner became professor of basso continuo, counterpoint and organ at the Vienna Conservatory; ten years later court organist; and in 1891 finally honorary doctor of the University of Vienna. He was considered an important organ virtuoso of his era, but had to wait a long time for recognition as a composer. It was not until Symphony No.7 in E major, composed between 1881 and 1883, with the famous Adagio written under the effects of Wagner's death, that he achieved the recognition he had hoped for, even if he was reluctant to accept it given his inclination towards scepticism and self-criticism. Anton Bruckner was a loner who did not want to follow a particular school or doctrine. He composed numerous sacred vocal works, such as his three masses, the Missa Solemnis in B flat minor (1854), the Te Deum (1881-84) and numerous motets. As a symphonic composer, he wrote a total of nine symphonies and many symphonic studies from 1863 onwards, tending to revise completed versions several times over. Bruckner's orchestral works were long considered unplayable, but in fact were merely exceptionally bold for the tonal language of their time, uniting traditions from Beethoven through Wagner to folk music, on the threshold between late Romanticism and Modernism. Anton Bruckner composed about 40 motets during his lifetime, the earliest a setting of Pange lingua around 1835, and the last, Vexilla regis, in 1892. Thomas Doss has compiled some of these motets in this volume for symphonic wind orchestra. These motets show many characteristics of personal expression, especially Bruckner's colourful harmony in the earlier works, which is in places aligned with Franz Schubert (changes between major and minor; and movements in thirds). Later works are characterised by many components which, in addition to the expanded stature of the movements, include above all a sense of the instrumentation as an outward phenomenon and the harmony as a compositional feature that works more internally. Some aspects of Bruckner's work are the result of his long period of study, which familiarised him not only with the tradition of his craft, but also gave him insights into the 'modernity' of his time in such composers as Wagner, Liszt and Berlioz. Down by the Salley Gardens is a guaranteed heartbreaker on your next concert. Since the lyrics of this Irish traditional are also supplied with the set a combination of band with solo voice or even choir is a definite possibility. The Arranger: Leafing through a song-book containing traditionals etc. I was immediately struck by this song and its exceptionally beautiful and atmospheric melody. I simply had to do something with it. Een meeslepende traditional van Ierse komaf staat aan de basis van dit wonderschone werkje. Down bythe Salley Gardens belooft een hartenbreker te worden op uw eerstvolgende concert. De tekst van deze Ierse traditional wordt meegeleverd en daarmee is een combinatie met zang ook zeer goed mogelijk. De arrangeur: Bladerend door een liedboek met traditionals enz. was ik meteen getroffen door dit nummer en zijn uitzonderlijk mooie en sfeervolle melodie. Ik moest gewoon iets mee doen.

Par DOBSON SIMON. Firefly was composed by award-winning composer Simon Dobson (b.1981) to provide an entertaining up-tempo concert work for community and youth bands. Composed in funk-rock style, and is based on the groove beat with which it opens. Dobson says, 'Firefly was written as a break from my more serious music and as a 'hat tip' to the various types of beat orientated music I listen to.” It was first performed by Oslofjord Brass in Norway and in its wind version by Harmonie Shostakovich, Switzerland. Nous vivons maintenant un fléau que nous ne connaissions que par les livres d?histoire : une pandémie ! Le danger invisible se répand inexorablement et nous sommes pratiquement paralysés par la peur. La distance entre nous-mêmes et nos semblables s?accroît. En même temps, nous commençons à apprécier un élément de poids : nous avons plus de temps qu?avant ! Les gens s?entraident. Le bon vouloir du voisinage et le soutien familial prennent une importance nouvelle. Nous veillons les uns sur les autres. Tout d?un coup, nous avons le temps de nous consacrer à des choses qui étaient toujours repoussées à plus tard. Le temps de réfléchir? Une nouvelle ère commence. Enfin, l?espoir revient. La comédie musicale raconte l?histoire de Louis-Joseph Marchand valet de pied de Napoléon qui fut impliqué dans le conflit autour de l?héritage de l?empereur et le mystère non résolu de sa mort. Le compositeur s?efforçait de présenter les six chansons de cette suite d?une façon à donner l?impression d?une ?uvre complètement originale.

Le pont du millénaire décrit le voyage du piéton à travers ce nouveau pont merveilleux de point de repère sur la Tamise, à partir de ses cloches sonnant sur la grande ville à l'imposant Tate Modern, traversant la rivière occupée et à partir de la cathédrale Saint-Paul. London Eye est une grande roue incroyablement large, située sur la rive sud de la Tamise. Ce mouvement dépeint un ' vol ' sur cette roue riverside, au sommet dont la vue anoramic de Londres est le souffle et l'exapnse de la musique est une représentation appropriée de la vue. Comme pour toutes les villes modernes, Londres est surpeuplées avec des véhicules à moteur. Londres est la première grande ville en EuAvailablee d'adopter un péage, et cette pièce (avec ses feux de circulation de s'arrêter et aller) est comiques et racé. Haexdonck a été composé à la demande de la commune de Kapelle-op-den-Bos à loccasiondu 150e anniversaire de Kanunnik Jaak Muyldermans. Il sagit de lancienne orthographede lactuel quartier Oxdonk dans lequel il a vécu. Dans cette oeuvre tripartite le compositeur décrit les différentes facettes humaines de lopulente vie de Muyldermans. La première partie lente et r?veuse décrit lécrivain/le poète. La deuxième partie dissonante riche en percussions raconte son époque daumônier militaire pendant la première guerre mondiale. La troisième partie hymnique décrit son époque de pr?tre.Cette oeuvre du nouvel arrivant Guido De Ranter se pr?te bien à un concours ou un concert.

In memoriam Anton Bruckner-Le couvent de Saint-Florian a été le lieu de travail du compositeur autrichien Anton Bruckner qui y composa plusieurs de ses grandes symphonies. Ce couvent et sa superbe église sont situés au centre d?un paysage champêtre idyllique. St. Florian Choral (?Choral de Saint-Florian?) est un hommage à Anton Bruckner dont la musique a profondément marqué Thomas Doss.

Par DOSS THOMAS. Cette œuvre est une commande du Musikverein Prechtal e. V. (Allemagne) pour marquer son centenaire, en 2021. Elle débute avec un motif rythmique puissant qui se développe bientôt pour exposer le thème principal de cette ouverture énergique. De joyeuses mélodies et une ambiance positive confèrent à cette pièce une énergie pleine d’entrain. Une solide pulsation entraîne fermement la musique, qui s’apaise graduellement dans un deuxième mouvement songeur semblant provenir d’un autre monde. Ce passage atmosphérique peut suggérer des pensées rêveuses et une variété d’images. Mais la gaieté du premier motif revient pour nous ramener au moment présent, avec une bonne dose d’optimisme et de détermination pour de nombreuses années à venir. En 1989, la manifestation nommée « La Voie balte » (The Baltic Way) s’est tenue en Estonie, en Lettonie et en Lituanie, les pays baltes dont les citoyens demandaient à être indépendants de l’Union soviétique. Le 23 août 1989, quelque deux millions de personnes se tenant par la main ont formé une chaîne humaine de 600 km de long reliant les trois capitales – Tallinn (Estonie), Riga (Lettonie) et Vilnius (Lituanie). Cette chaîne humaine, la plus longue à ce jour, donna une impulsion décisive au rétablissement d’une indépendance vivement souhaitée. Cet événement historique est devenu source d’inspiration pour cette composition. L’introduction du premier mouvement, « Struggle for Independence », est fondée sur un nocturne pour piano du célèbre compositeur et peintre letton Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis (1875-1911). Du matériel thématique emprunté à ce nocturne est parsemé à travers la présente composition. Un début mélancolique est suivi d’un thème puissant qui reflète la détermination des peuples baltes. La présence soudaine d’accords agressifs et dissonants, associés à une grosse caisse dont le décalage rythmique domine, indiquent que la résistance rencontre des obstacles. Nous entendons momentanément l’hymne soviétique dans les cuivres graves, mais cet air est inexorablement repoussé à l’arrière-plan par le reste de l’orchestre interprétant l’hymne national de Lettonie, « Tautiška giesme » (Lettonie, notre patrie). Le deuxième mouvement, « Decades of Suffering », dépeint la vie sous le joug de l’Union soviétique. À la recherche de l’indépendance, une manifestation pacifique est organisée sous la forme d’une chaîne humaine traversant les trois pays baltes – l ’Estonie, la Lettonie et la Lituanie.
