Par SCIAINO PETER. 'Bahumba' is a nonsense word but a no-nonsense selection for concert band. The word stems from a sound composer Peter Sciaino heard coming from an idling car. The engine, clearly having issues, had an 'uneven' gate or pulse. He mindlessly heard the word 'Bahumba' within the sounds emerging from the struggling motor. Just like an engine, an ensemble can attain a smooth groove even if 'uneven' in terms of pulse. While the percussionists are often asked to provide this groove under the melodic lines, they ultimately break out with a feature that essentially places a percussion ensemble within the context of a concert band piece. Drei kurzweilige Impressionen-Dans le cadre du projet ?La musique de Kurt Weill? organisé à Leeuwarden (Pays-Bas) en 2006 Peter Kleine Schaars a donné une seconde jeunesse à plusieurs œuvres que le compositeur allemand avait créées pour le Dreigroschen Orchester (L?Orchestre de quat?sous) un ensemble qu?il avait spécialement formé et dont il avait fixé l?instrumentation pour interprété sa Kleine Dreigroschenmusik (Une petite musique de quat?sous).Peter Kleine Schaars s?est inspiré des trois périodes qui ont marqué la vie de Kurt Weill (1900-1950) : ses étapes à Berlin Paris et New York. Three Aspects of Kurt Weill (?Trois impressions divertissantes de Kurt Weill?) développe un thèmerécurrent exposé dans trois climats musicaux différents qui correspondent aux trois étapes de la vie de Weill.Le premier mouvement est une marche protestataire ?aux accents berlinois? qui parodie l?utilisation de la musique sous le fascisme. Les trompettes ont le premier rôle. Le second mouvement chemine sur une valse musette toute parisienne qui fait la part belle au saxophone alto et à l?accordéon. Le troisième et dernier mouvement développe le thème dans une trame swing typique du Big Band. Votre formation se métamorphose en un grand orchestre digne de Broadway !

Peter Kleine Schaars s?est inspiré de l?ambiance musicale de trois îles des Antilles néerlandaises - Aruba Bonaire et Curaçao - pour écrire cette suite en trois mouvements. Latin ABC s?ouvre par une valse allègre où s?entrelacent un thème en 3/4 et un autre en 6/8. Le second mouvement apportera une touche traditionnelle avec une salsa lente et sensuelle. La pièce culmine avec une marche entraînante qui emmène l?auditeur au soleil d?Aruba. Le tout se déroule dans les limites d?une composition de niveau 3 où les percussions jouent un rôle important.

With 'The Big Apple' Manhattan was intended. It was the place to be. Around 1920 Harlem was the center of a thriving black culture. This period is known as the 'Harlem Renaissance'. In the famous Cotton Club were many concerts of greats like Duke Ellington. Broadway attracts millions of tourists. Many of them visit here one of the many musicals sometimes for years on the boards are placed. Broadway splashes sparkles and swings. Peter Martin shows usthree bites tests of this imaginary apple.
