Transient Glory Series-Boatmen’s Song was inspired by a folk song from northern China which was used by the boatmen as they towed their boats along the river. As this means of propulsion is now consigned to history only the musicremains; however the hand-clapping and nonsense words still reflect the unending turmoil and unrest of the river. Bright Sheng is a contemporary Chinese composer who settled and studied in America following theCultural Revolution. He is known for writing down traditional Chinese tunes and folk songs in a western style. Boatmen’s Song was commissioned by The Yong People’s Chorus of New York and scored for aprofessional children’s choir or a women’s chorus with Harp and Percussion.

A choral work in four parts by Aulis Sallinen for unaccompanied upper voices. The text has been paraphrased from the Finnish by Michael Hurd and is based on a Finnish folk song and a poem written by the composers two sons.

Czech Canon-The Friendship Song arranged here by Doreen Rao was first taught to the Glen Ellyn Children's Chorus by their Czechoslovakian hosts the Jitro Children's Choir. Over 200 children from Czechoslovakia and the United States sang together exchanging songs on a warm summer morning in the quiet countryside. The Friendship Song has been arranged for 4-part Treble Voices unaccompanied.

Slumber Song is an Art Song by the Russian composer Anton Arensky. It is scored for SSAA Upper Voice Chorus with a Piano reduction provided for rehearsal purposes. It has been translated into English by the composer Frederick Corder (1852-1932). Anton Arensky (1861-1906) was a Russian composer pianist and pedagogue. He studied composition at the St Petersburg Conservatory with Rimsky-Korsakov before becoming a Professor at the Moscow Conservatory and later director of the Imperial Choir. His musical style was initially dismissed as being unoriginal and heavily reliant on Tchaikovsky but has recently been re-evaluated and hischamber music is now experiencing a revival.

Song For Athene is a work by British composer John Tavener arranged by Barry Rose for Upper Voices and Organ with optional Cello. The text is taken from Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' as well as from theOrthodox Funeral Service. The entire work lasts around 7 minutes. The original version of Song For Athene was commissioned by the BBC and first performed on 22nd January 1994 at St Giles'Church Cripplegate London by the BBC Singers conducted by Simon Joly. This arrangement received a positive review from Geoffrey Webber in the January/February 2016 edition of Choir & Organ.
