“Maurice Hauchard (1870-1957) was a French violinist and composer. As a minor composer, often in the shadow of his contemporary, Maurice Ravel, much of Hauchard's music is not widely known. However, his First Concert Solo for Violin and Piano provides excellent preparation for the classical concertos. As an excellent, versatile musician Hauchard loved his art and remains one of the greatest contributors to music education. First Concert Solo is part of a series of modern concert solos for the Violin, intended for young violinists. The First Concert Solo</strong is Allegro in tempo and makes use of a variety of techniques. All violinists seeking to play the large concertos of the repertoire should play this delightful Hauchard work to ensure progression.&rdquo.

Even though I was and remain a proponent of absolute music, the things that we see and experience inevitably colour and energise our thought processes. The grand old man of Finnish Modernism Paavo Heininen (b. 1938) turned his impressions of Boston into violinsonatas.

This three movement piano trio from Giselher Klebe’s late period of creativity originates from his estate. The composition’s appeal lies in the clear, restrained diction whilst at the same time a high intensity of expression is achieved. Two diverse slow outer movements with eruptive injections frame a lively middle movement. This work which has a duration of 20 minutes undoubtedly represents an impressive document of a musical style which we perceive today as the classical modern.

The violin concerto from 1935 is probably the best-known and most frequently performed instrumental work by Alban Berg. Written on behalf of the violinist Louis Krasner, it is his last completed composition. Krasner played the solo part at the world premiere at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona on 19 April 1936 after Berg's death. The concert is dedicated to “The Memory of an Angel.†Berg processed the death of 18-year-old Manon Gropius, who had contracted polio, and his daughter Alma Mahler-Werfel's marriage to architect Walter Gropius. His intention was “to translate the traits of the young girl into musical charactersâ€. With more than 1,200 titles from orchestral and choral literature, chamber music and music theater, Edition Eulenburg is the largest score series in the world. It covers a large part of music history from the baroque to classical modernism and looks back on a long tradition.

Part of the collection ?Concert Solo?, Ninth Concerto is a contemporary and modern piece by Raymond Gallois Montbrun, for Violin and Piano. Quite difficult, this piece should prepare upper-intermediate players to play classical concertos. This really nice piece is composed of a main theme, four variations and a final. The theme is quite lyrical and has an Allegretto tempo. The fourth theme stands out by its extensive use of harmonies. The Piano accompaniment also evolves based on the variations. The piece finishes on a really harmonious final. Raymond Gallois Montbrun (1918-1994) was a French violinist and composer who won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome and the Grand Prix de Paris. He later became the director of the Paris Conservatoire. He composed many symphonic pieces, an opera, a quartet and many pieces for Solo Piano, Violin and Piano and other instruments..
