Er ist eine spannende Herausforderung für Klarinettisten von heut und war sehr wahrscheinlich ein virtuoses Stück für Klarinettisten im frühen 19. Jahrhundert.Wie so viele Komponisten der Klassik, beschrieb Krommer die Aritkulation von kaum mehr als ein paar Phrasen seiner Soli für Bläser. Infolgedessen nahmen sich die einzelnen Spieler viel Freiheiten, wo und wann sie angestoßen oder gebunden spielten. Artikulation für Bläser, genau wie Bogenbewegung für Streicher, mussflexibel in ihrer Auslegung und Durchführung sein. Die richtige Spielweise ergibt aus dem technischen Können und der Ausdrucksstärke des jeweiligen Spielers. Der Dirigent sollte dies zusammen mit seinem Solisten erarbeiten. Après une longue période d’infortune, il entre comme Maître de Chapelle au service du Duc Ignaz Fuchs, en 1806. Quatre ans plus tard, il est nommé au poste de directeur musical du Thé tre Royal et Impérial de Vienne (Wiener Hoftheater). En 1818, succédant Leopold (Johann Anton) Kozeluch, il devient le dernier Maître de musique de chambre et compositeur de la cour des Habsbourg. Il gardera ses fonctions jusqu’ sa mort en 1831.Franz Krommer était l’un des plus illustres compositeurs tchèques de la Vienne impériale vers la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Sa musique était très appréciée de son vivant et certains le considéraient comme le digne héritier de Joseph Haydn. Son style est indéniablement apparenté ce dernier mais aussi celui de Mozart. Dvorák composed his “Slavonic Rhapsodies†op. 45 in 1878, initiating his so-called “Slavonic periodâ€. They were issued by the publisher Simrock the following year as three independent orchestral pieces (in D major, G minor and A-flat major) appearing under the same opus number.Now the “Slavonic Rhapsodies†are being issued separately in scholarly-critical editions. Antony Herschel Hill's Ave Verum Corpus for unaccompanied SATB is one of a number of liturgical works by this gifted composer. Written for Prebendary John Pearce and the choir of St Simon Zelotes, Chelsea, London, Hill's setting projects the awe and mystery of the text through a rich variety of harmony that particularly exploits the lower registers of the individual voices to great effect. If you have a really good choir, take advantage of this and buy it. For pure musicianship little else has equalled it recently; the sense of architecture is superb, the climaxes are clean, controlled and never contrived, and the final section, 'miserere mei', uses a wonderfully restrained sense of chromaticism. What a magic piece.

Crucifixus by Antonio Lotti is part of his Credo in F. This motet of 8 voices is a wonderful example of polyphony with many suspensions thrown in for good measure. The music is sweet with a beautiful sadness, making it a work that touches most listeners in a very personal way.Mr. Brink has transposed the work down a fifth into the key of F minor (resolving to F major at the conclusion), otherwise keeping the music true to its origins. This 4 minute work has a range of up to high B-flat for the 1st part. The top four parts are in tenor clef.The mp3 sound file is from a live performance of the Rundfunkchor conducted by Sir Simon Rattle from YouTube.
