André Jolivet (1905-1974) established his love for composition from a young age. This remained throughout his life, and he held the post of Professor of Composition from 1966-1970 at Paris Conservatoire. Concerto No. 2 for Trumpetwas composed in 1955, and remains highly regarded. Jolivet, himself a cellist, wished to explore composition for all instruments and therefore has a considerable number of works in all fields. The composer's style is also knownfor its spirituality, and the desire to associate the everyday with the magical, and the human with the universal. Jolivet draws on acoustics and atonality, as heard in Concerto No. 2 for Trumpet. The piece requires high, virtuosic skills due to its expansive use of extended techniques. For all advanced trumpeters, Jolivet provides an exciting, different piece for the instrument's repertoire.

“French composer and conductor, Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) published Gregorian Variations on a Salve Ragina 1964. As with his other wind compositions, Gregorian Variations for Trumpet and String Orchestra and Organ reduction was well-received by audiences. Tomasi was born in Marseille, but his Father and Mother were originally from La Casinca in Corsica. Despite being pressured in to musical studies by his parents, Tomasi dreamed of becoming a sailor, and during the summer, he stayed with his Grandmother in Corsica where he learnt traditional Corsican songs. However, in 1921, he began his studies at the Paris Conservatoire and went on to become a high profile composer and conductor. Tomasi did not forget his Corsican routes, often incorporating themes of the songs he had learnt during the summers with his Grandmother into his compositions. Gregorian Variations on a Salve Regina is a highly unusual and modern work based on an old Marian Hymn (a song for the Virgin Mary). The variations exploit tonality, rhythm and structure amongst other aspects. This Tomasi piece is suitable for advanced trumpeters, providing an exciting, alternative addition to the instrument's repertoire.â€.

Set includes 2 Scores and Trumpet part The Mystic Trumpeter (2018) for speaker, trumpet, and piano was commissioned by Edward Hull for Barbara Hull. The piece is based on the poem of the same name by the American poet Walt Whitman (1819â??1892). The poem was first published in 1872 and appeared in a later edition of his seminal collection Leaves of Grass. In this musical work, the poem is recited by spoken voice, and the tableaux that it presents are reflected in music for trumpet and piano. Each section of Whitmanâ??s poem sees the trumpeter in a different context. Likewise, the musical moods vary dramatically, though there are connections of motive that run throughout them all. “Sarabande et Finale is a nice piece by Raymond Gallois Montbrun for Bb or C Trumpet and Piano accompaniment. Quite difficult, this piece is great for recitals or concert. Starting with the Piano for just six measures before the Trumpet Solo, the sarabande has a slow tempo. The finale is faster, Allegro, and features a period with solo Piano before evolving into Vivo. It features the score and parts for Bb or C Trumpet. Raymond Gallois Montbrun (1918-1994) was a French violinist and composer who won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome and the Grand Prix de Paris. He later became the director of the Paris Conservatoire. He composed many symphonic pieces, an opera, a quartet and many pieces for Solo Piano, Violin and Piano and other instruments.â€.

The demanding trumpet work EXCURSIONS, originally written with band accompaniment on a commission by the United States Air Force Band (and recorded by that band on the album, Excursions) is here offered for solo trumpet with piano accompaniment. In the aptly named work, Mr. Broughton explores the diverse technical and expressive capabilities of the trumpet, with the angular melodies and driving rhythms that characterize the piece used by the solo trumpet to lead the accompaniment.

û¿Zatten was commissioned in 2005 by Trumpeter Paul Neebe during the composer's vacation to do ancestral research in the town of Zatten, currently part of Poland.Roger Petrich writes the following about his Zatten Concerto for Trumpet:The 'DNA' of this compostion tracks back to my great-grandfather and the tiny Plattdeutsch village where he was born. Zatten, [then] located in the eastern part of Berlin/Brandenburg is in an area of forest and small farms dating back to the 1600's. My grandfather R. T. Petrich, whose initials I bear, was six years old when he, along with his parents, sister, and older brother left Prussia to start a new life in the USA.My own childhood memories include many visits to the family homestead in Dakota Territory, where I used to play in the barn which hosted many summer dances. The Dakota sky was vast by day, and nights could become magical with the addition of the Northern Lights. Though not a professional musician, my father kept up his trumpet playing all his life. In a special way it was his voice - a sound that deeply imprinted all my growing up years. All of this is mixed together in my Zatten ConcertoThe Zatten Concerto is in three movements, the two outer movements faster and the middle is a Largo. This work is appropriate for advanced performers. The title Zatten (the name of the small village in Germany where his family was located before immigrating to the USA) is spelled out in Morse Code in the very opening eight bars of the work. The Concerto is originally written for Trumpet and String Orchestra, this version using a reduction for Piano.
