Par TCHAIKOVSKI PIOTR ILITCH. Souvenir d'un Lieu Cher (Memories of a Dear Place) is a collection of three pieces for violin and piano. The first - Méditation - was written in Clarens in Switzerland in March 1878. Tchaikovsky originally intended it to be the slow movement of his violin concerto, but later replaced it with the more substantial Canzonetta and recast it for violin and piano. The other two movements were composed in May of the same year on the estate of his benefactress, Nadeja von Meck at Brailovo in Ukraine which is the 'dear place' of the title. It was published in in May 1879. The work is very characteristic of Tchaikovsky's style. It is built on beautiful melodies, with a Russian folk inflection, and contains a variety of contrasting sections. The outer movements are written in a gentle lyrical style, whereas the scherzo is fast and furious creating a mood of stormy anger. The trio section is based on a simple melody with a tinge of sadness about it. The solo part exemplifies Tchaikovsky's mastery of violin writing, using as it does a wide range of timbres and effects.

Ravel, Maurice Sonata / Berceuse sur le nom de Fauré for Violin and Piano - New scholarly-critical edition of Ravel?s famous sonata - First scholarly-critical edition of the ?Berceuse sur le nom de Fauré? - Foreword on the historical context and performance practice issues (Eng/Ger) as well as a Critical Commentary (Eng) Ravel worked on his Sonata for Violin and Piano for four years (1923?1927) which was longer than he took for any other composition. According to the composer, the reason for his difficulties was the ?fundamental incompatibility? of these two instruments. However, the interplay between two quite different partners is precisely what makes this sonata so charming. The violin and piano are independent, sometimes playing alongside each other and at other times with each other: here in a lyrical Allegretto, there in a jazz-inspired second movement, finally in a ?perpetuum mobile? finale. This new edition edited by Douglas Woodfull-Harris corrects numerous inconsistencies of earlier editions. It also includes the ?Berceuse sur le nom de Fauré? which is available for the first time in a scholarly-critical Urtext edition. This lullaby for violin and piano consists of variations on a theme derived from the letters of Fauré?s name. / Partitions classique / Cordes / Violon / BARENREITER

In E-flat major Op.102. Par SAINT-SAENS CAMILLE. The second half of the 19th century represented something of a ?Golden Age? of the violin sonata in France: influential violin sonatas such as those by Franck, Fauré and Saint-Saëns were among the successful works of this genre, inspiring many further compositions. Saint-Saëns? Violin Sonata No.2 was written in 1896 during a stay of several months by the composer in Egypt: he began the main themes of all four movements as well as the canonic trio in Luxor and Aswan. The sonata was then completed on the Nile journey back to Cairo. That same year the sonata was premiered by Saint-Saëns and Pablo Sarasate in a concert celebrating the composer?s fiftieth stage anniversary. Astoundingly, he had first appeared on stage when he was only ten years old. This performing edition edited by Fabien Guilloux and François de Médicis is based on ?Saint-Saëns ? ?uvres instrumentales complètes?, volume III/4. It reflects the most up-to-date state of research on this work which the edition presents in a spacious engraving. - With a detailed Foreword (Fr/Eng/Ger) on the genesis and performance history - Performing edition based on the Urtext of the ?Saint-Saëns ? ?uvres instrumentales complètes? - Optimum layout in the violin part and piano score / Date parution : 2022-11-08/ Répertoire / Violon et Piano

Fantasia for Violin and Piano-Born in Erfurt the composer Edward Mollenhauer (1827 1914) achieved success in America as a soloist and teacher. His best-known pieces for young violinists are The Infant Paganini and The Boy Paganini. The Mollenhauer fantasia The Infant Paganini is a charming introduction to early virtuoso techniques. It calls for bowing techniques such as detaché legato spiccato and arpeggios over three strings. Players are also expected to play harmonics and pizzicato. This showpiece (BA 10691) can be accomplished by young violinists who can play in first to third position and who are nearing completion of theSassmannshaus Early Start on the Violin volume 4.The Boy Paganini is an impressive concert piece which is more demanding. Its two movements call for changes of metre harmonics and pizzicato. Other challenges include chords on all four strings and simple passages in octaves. On the Violin (BA 10692) the technical requirements call for first to fifth position. Violinists should have completed volume 4 of Early Start on the Violin in order to master this work.- Popular recital pieces for young violinists and cellists.- Both works form an ideal continuation of the Sassmannshaus Early Start methods.

Dvorák, AntonÃn Concerto for Violin and Orchestra A minor op. 53 Edition no. BA 10422-90 ISMN 9790260107687 Editor Cividini, Iacopo Dvorák?s Violin Concerto was composed between 1879 and 1882, with the active assistance of Joseph Joachim, and was issued by the publisher Fritz Simrock, Berlin in 1883. Its premiere took place in October of that same year with Franti?ek OndrÃcek as soloist. This new Urtext edition is based on the first edition (score, solo violin part, piano reduction and orchestral parts). It also takes Dvorák?s autograph which served as a master copy for the engraving into consideration. A fresh assessment of Dvorák?s manuscript made it possible to reconstruct several variants ignored in the first and subsequent editions and to clarify ambiguities in the notation and articulation. An important component of our Urtext edition is the original piano reduction, which probably stems from Dvorák himself, and in which Joseph Joachim?s fingering is published. ? First Urtext edition of the original piano reduction ? Variants in the solo part rendered as ossia passages ? Foreword on the work?s genesis (Ger/Cz/Eng) and detailed Critical Commentary (Eng) by the editor

Henle Publishers also offers in individual practical editions are particularly well-known and popular. He consulted all of the relevant original sources in international archives thereby guaranteeing the highest reliability of this musical text. Following the composition of Harold En Italie for Viola and orchestra in 1834, Berlioz began work on the opera Benvenuto Cellini , which subsequently failed on its first performances at the Paris Opera in 1838. Berlioz withdrew the opera for substantial revision, and from some of the discharged material he later fashioned this Reverie Et Caprice (in versions both for Violin and orchestra and Violin and Piano). Dedicated to Berlioz's violinist friend Alexandre-Joseph Artot, the piece was quickly taken up by several celebrated violinists of the time, including David, Joachim and Wieniawski, and was played all over Europe. This new edition for Violin and Piano, by the musicologist and performer Neil Heyde, is based on the first edition of the score.

with marked and unmarked string part-Just like many other violin virtuosos of the 19th century Pablo de Sarasate also composed a series of pieces for violin and piano (or orchestra) for his own concert use. Highly virtuosic salon pieces with echoes of national folkmusic traditions from all over Europe are at the centre. Sarasate published his eight Spanish dances in four books between 1878 and 1882. They alternate between fiery passion and a yearning expressiveness and are undoubtedlyamong his most successful compositions. In masterly fashion Sarasate here mixes up Spanish folk tunes with arrangements of popular compositions of the time. As in the case of the Henle Urtext edition of Sarasate???s Zigeunerweisen(HN 573) a violin wizard of our own time is responsible for the fingerings and bowings: Ingolf Turban.

'Romance for violin and piano is a short reflective piece that exploits the lyrical qualities inherent in the combination. Originally written for a very young but talented violinist Romance travels through numerous moods andcolours within a continuous musical development of the opening material. At first gentle and reflective with increasing dramatic outbursts outlined by the violin sforzandi and parallel sixths in the piano writing numerous shortsolo passages in both instruments culminate in a fiery climax. Quickly subsiding into the calmer yet now more melancholy strains of the earlier stages of the piece the ending is somewhat incomplete. This seems to suggest acontinuous turn of events alluded to in the music.'???????????? - Helen GrimeBorn in 1981 Helen studied oboe with JohnAnderson and composition with Julian Anderson and Edwin Roxburgh at the Royal College of Music. Debussy wrote his solitary Violin Sonata in the closing days of his life plagued by the distress of the ongoing Great War financial difficulties and health issues of a terminal cancer. Shortly afterits completion in April the first performance took place on May 5th 1917 with Debussy himself at the Piano. This was the composer?s last public appearance before his death in 1918.The Sonata For Violinand Piano was the third and final composition in a cycle intended to consist of six sonatas for various instruments. It has an overall atmosphere of melancholy while also capturing contradictory characteristics such asjoy and silliness presented in a form closer to a fantasia than a sonata. The three expressive movements (Allegro vivo Intermede and Finale) are written in a French nationalistic spirit withdistinctive influences from Spanish and gypsy music throughout. This ambiguousness and ambivalence in form sound and character all attribute to Debussy?s innovative language of ?musical impressionism? which has become afavourite of musicians and audiences alike. The comments at the end of this Urtext edition provide detailed information on the sources and alternative readings while the preface by François Lesure in German English andFrench gives historical and biographical context. Two copies of the Violin solo are included as separate inserts.
