Study score.Born in Richmond Hill New York on 10 December 1913 Morton Gould was recognised early on as a child prodigy with the ability toimprovise and compose. At the age of six he had his first composition published. He studied at the Institute of Musical Art (now the Juilliard School) but his most important teachers were Abby Whiteside (Piano) and Vincent Jones(composition).Gould enjoyed an illustrious career. In addition to gaining a Pulitzer Prize for 'Stringmusic' he was Musical America's 1994 Composer-of-the-Year and recieved a Kennedy Center Honor in recognition oflifetime contributions to American culture.A long-time member of the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers Gould was elected president of ASCAP in 1986 a post he held until 1994. In 1986 he waselected to the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. He also served on the board of the American Symphony Orchestra League and on the National Endowment for the Arts music panel.

Score-Morton Gould's Festive Music for Orchestra. Study score.Festive Music was commissioned by the Tri-City Symphony Orchestra Charles Gigante conductor and Mrs. Richard von Maur manager for the Orchestra's fiftieth anniversary. The composition was completed in December of 1964 and was first performed on Saturday January 16 1965 with Gould conducting the Tri-City Symphony Orchestra inCentennial Hall on the campus of the Augustana College Rock Island III. Moline III. and Davenport Iowa are the two other cities of the triumverate.The orchestral scoring incorperates an off-stage solo Trumpet part inrecognition of Bix Beiderbecke one of the legendary jazz artists who was born in Davenport.The work is divided into three sections:1. Fanfare (2 minutes)2. Interlude (4 minutes)3. Dance (5 minutes)Totalplaying time: 11 minutes approx.

Score and Parts-In honour of their 75th anniversary the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra commissioned a number of composers who had written major works for them in the past to write short musical 'postcards'. Morton Gould said of his:'Mypostcard is called Minute Plus Waltz Rag; it's a slight take-off on 'The Minute Waltz' but with the 'plus' that it's longer than a minute and combines a waltz with a rag pattern in 5/8 time. I wasn't consciously thinking of 1916when I wrote it but it does actually reflect a flavour of that time.' This is the Schirmer edition of the Score and Parts.

Score-Morton Gould's Vivaldi Gallery for String Quartet and Divided Orchestra.Vivalid Gallery is based on materials drawn from various orchestral chamber and choral works of AntonioVivaldi. It was first performed by Milton Katims and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra in the Seattle Opera House on March 25 1968. The same artists have recorded Vivaldi Gallery for RCA Victor.
