Overcoming the boundaries between 'serious' and entertaining music was what mattered to the musician Eduard Putz (1911-2000). His compositions therefore include stylistic features of jazz and pop music. Many of his works were written for children and young instrumentalists to offer them a break from the monotony of classical sonatinas and studies. 'Blue Waltz' is such a treat - very easy to play, it carefully helps the player to open a listening ear for jazz sounds. The arrangement for accompanied melodic instrument is also suitable for beginner's lessons and the first ensemble playing.

Eduard Putz is concerned with crossing the boundaries between so-called 'serious' and light music. His 'Blues Fantasy for 6 cellos' is eminently suitable for this purpose, being expressive as well as passionate and virtuosic. It is a genuine synthesis of Jazz and contemporary styles not shallow wannabe-trendy * rather 'made-to-measure' for cello ensemble.

Eduard Putz (1911-2000) studied with Heinrich Lemacher and Hermann Schroeder at the Cologne Musikhochschule and later worked as a music teacher at the grammar school in Rheinbach near Bonn as well as a composition teacher at the Rhenish Music School in Cologne. Overcoming the boundaries between serious and entertaining music was what mattered to him which is why he wrote many works which tried to combine jazz and new music. His 'Adagietto' for violoncello and piano (1990) was discovered within the composer's estate and published for the first time. Prof. Julius Berger arranged the piece for practical playing, adding appropriate fingerings. A short performance piece with interesting harmonies and arpeggios in the piano part and expressive cantilenas in the cello part.
