The edition represents as best as possible the piece as premiered by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra at his â??Experiment in Modern Musicâ? concert on February 12, 1924. Grofé prepared the score for the specific talents and timbres of the Whiteman Orchestra, largely from an ink fair copy of Gershwin's two-piano short-score manuscript. Gershwin continued to modify the piano solo portion of this short score during rehearsals and, most likely, even after the premiere of the piece.

Composed between December 2014 and November 2015, Moving On developed from an initial short concert piece, written at the request of the piano duo Lauryna Sableviciute and Nicholas Ashton, into a larger work of several related movements reflecting different types of forward motion. Some wander, with no sense of hurry; others - such as fast forward, a kind of frantic boogie-woogie that might accompany a short, speeded-up film of an old American railroad train - dash or are fleeting. As the composer admits, a future destination of Moving On might well be a piece with filmaEUR|.

Lauri Kilpiö's (b. 1974) Six Winter Scenes for two pianos (2022) was commissioned by Joensuu Conservatory. The nostalgic memories and different impressions of winter take the technical abilities of the performers into consideration. The short, hazy movement I Blue Dusk Descends brings the winter. The other move-ments include the bright movement II Echoes in a Snowy Forest, the toccata-style movement III Ride through a Blizzard, the glitteringly impressionistic movement IV Ice Skating on the River, the enigmatic movement V Birds on the Snowdrift, and the energetic movement VI Woken Bear Rock, which brings the spring.

The suite can be performed in its entirety at a time, or it is also possible to perform only individual movements of it. The same piano duo may perform the whole work, or the performers may also change between the movements.
