German baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) was a self-taught multi-instrumentalist becoming a composer against his family's wishes. However his musical career saw him hold important positions and to this day he remains a major composer. His sublime Sonata in C minor for Oboe is superbly arranged for Alto Saxophone by contemporary French saxophonist Jean-Marie Londeix. Telemann composed his Sonata in C minor for Oboe whilst in service to the German Royal family. During this time he composed a wealth of instrumental music including Sonatas and Concertos. Londeix's arrangementfor Saxophone of Telemann's Sonata includes adaptions for the instrument such as dynamics phrase marks performance and tempo directions articulation and breath marks making the baroque genre accessible to the Saxophone a relatively modern instrument.

Written by Jacques Charpentier for Alto Saxophone and Piano Gavambodi 2 is a piece lasting 9 minutes dedicated to Georges Gourdet. Ideal for advanced players it features the Carnatic mode (n°43) and is a great work to play for a recital. We can distinguish three parts in this piece: a slow beginning starting with the Saxophone solo which quickly develops into a faster chromatic section which is much more technical. The Finale is reminiscent of the beginning ending with two very slow measures. Widely influenced by his travel especially India this music is also reminiscent of the techniques used by his teachers suchas Olivier Messiaen. Jacques Charpentier (b. 1933) is a French musician who lived in India and wrote numerous pieces from Piano and Organ music to Chamber stage and orchestra works among others.

Prélude Cadence Et Finale is a piece for Alto Saxophone and Piano written by Alfred Desenclos in 1956 as a Paris Conservatoire Contest piece. Dedicated to Marcel Mule the famous French Saxophonist Prélude Cadence et Finale is divided into three parts and presents many compositional techniques characteristic of the Impressionist period. Prélude the first section introduces recurring rhythmic parts and develops themes that will reappear throughout the piece. The second section Cadence corresponds to a dynamic Saxophone cadenza. The Finale is quite dramatic and uses some of the elementsthat previously appeared in the piece. Alfred Desenclos (1912-1961) is a French Composer who won the Prix de Rome in 1942. He also composed masses such as Messe de Requiem and other pieces for Double Bass Harp Flute Trumpet or French Horn.
