Vol.2 of the Cello tutor is a continuation of the Cello ABC. The basic principle remains unchanged: in addition to the most necessary minimum of technical studies, it offers varied, attractive musical material, grouped in a clear, comprehensible manner. The various chapters contain both simpler and more demanding works, so the teacher can select teaching material to suit students- abilities. Many of the pieces are in two parts or have piano accompaniment, so that by making music together, teacher and pupil can make lessons a musical experience rather than a duty. The textual instructions are supplied in three languages: German, English and Hungarian.

The theme of this work is man & machine, as commissioned by Michael Nicolas. The theme is represented in that the Cellist becomes both in the piece man & machine where man indicates performing expressively with emotion, and a musical approach to the music, and machine indicates more precise rhythmic and technical accuracy, a somewhat stricter approach to the music. These two approaches gradually transition from one to another throughout the work. Anna Thorvaldsdottir frequently works with large sonic structures that tend to reveal the presence of a vast variety of sustained sound materials, reflecting her sense of imaginative listening to landscapes and nature. Her music tends to portray a flowing world of sounds with an enigmatic lyrical atmosphere.

This is a wonderful collection of klezmer music, inspired by the Jewish dances and songs of the klezmorim from Eastern Europe - from the lyrical HORA to the fast, compelling FREILACH. Some of the pieces have a second part ad libitum - for playingtogether or for variation in a repeat. For the accompaniment, chord symbols have been added and on the included CD there are complete versions as well as play-along versions of all pieces, played live by genuine klezmer musicians. When we think of the cello, we automatically think of Bach’s immortal cello suites. They are the very core of cello literature, their timeless beauty accompanying cellists from their student years throughout the height of their professional careers.Considering the works’ significance, the great number of editions in existence is not surprising. However, the composer’s autograph has not been preserved and is considered lost. This circumstance creates an exceptional challenge many editors faced over the years. The four autograph sources still in existence and the first print from 1824 show numerous small deviations, especially in terms of articulation markings and phrasing. In this two-volume edition of Bach’s cello suites, Andrew Talle now presents an entirely new view of the relationships between existing sources. The first volume contains the edited musical text, which comes as close to the composer’s original intention as the surviving source material allows: “This edition does not constitute a perfect reconstruction of the lost autograph; that is something no editor could claim to accomplish. Instead, I have attempted to supply musicians and researchers with a reliable version of the surviving musical text of the six cello suites, and to convey a sense of the many possibilities Bach encouraged his musicians to explore.â€The second volume presents, for the first time, synoptically arranged facsimiles of the handwritten sources as well as the first print (with Suite No. V also including Bach’s own arrangement for lute), allowing readers to compare any specific section in all sources at one glance. This allows for a straightforward and immediate consideration of all sources, making editorial decisions transparent and self-evident.Andrew Talle’s edition is supplemented by a comprehensive discussion of the instrument for which the suites were created, as well as information regarding musical interpretation during Bach’s time.

We all agree that scales are a basis for learning cello technique, which is why we include scales in our teaching. The trick of course, is how to integrate scales into the learning process so that at the moment the repertoire demands the technique, the fingers are able to respond. All too often scales are divorced from their musical environment or teachers are compelled to cut and paste from traditional scale books to try to match technique and learning. Here, in this new series, Scale Builder Orfilia Saiz Vega meticulously matches scale development to the appropriate level of technique. Through this, the patterns and rhythms expected of the student at their level of musical competence are precisely those practised. Moreover, the skilful integration of bowing and other techniques specific to the instrument mean that acquiring the scales across a whole range of technical devices means that when they appear in the music they are expected to play, teachers can concentrate on the musical elements safe in the knowledge that the technique is secure.Great musicians are formed from early age. We finally have this gradual, attractive and adapted system of scales to start building student's technique, which will be at the service of their artistry in the future. I strongly recommend it!ASIER POLO Cello player, soloist and Artistic director at the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts of the University'Alfonso X el Sabio' (Madrid).

With an expansive representation of musical styles from all eras, this series addresses the need for a single collection of quality educational materials to foster musical development and instill appreciation of the richness and diversity of music written for cello. Supporting a balanced course of study, this series organizes repertoire into nine volumes from the Preparatory Level through Level 8. Each level offers music from a range of styles and compositional eras, including standard literature, new arrangements of familiar tunes, and music written for cellists, by cellists. These selections provide the flexibility to choose pedagogically appropriate material suited to each individual, and to motivate students to fully develop their musicianship and technique.Baroque and Classical Repertoire:Trio Sonata in D Minor (La Follia), RV 63 - Vivaldi, Antonio arr. arpad PejtsikSonata in F Major, TWV 41:F2 - Telemann, Georg Philipp arr.
