André Jolivet (1905-1974) composed this Concerto for Flute and Strings in 1949. Initially written for Flute and String Orchestra, this version contains the scores for the Flute and the Piano and lasts 12 minutes. Thisstrong>Concerto for Flute and Strings is quite unusual as it was only created in two movements, each divided into a slow introduction and a fast main part. Used as one of the main pieces of the Geneva music contest _x001A_Concours deGenève_x001A_ in 2014, this concerto requires advanced skills. André Jolivet is a French composer who was really inspired by the Antiquity and had a strong interest for atonality. He also wrote many chamber music pieces, elevenconcertos, some orchestral and some vocal music.

Claude Debussy (1862-1918) composed Valse Romantique (F minor; CD 79/L.71) in 1890 for solo piano, during a period when he was short piano works in traditional genres, seeking his own style. Unlike the impressionism for which he later became known, this waltz is written in a late romantic style. Not particularly difficult, it is ideal for teaching or for a recital. This transcription for violin or flute and piano was created in 1924 by Alexandre Roelens. Reprint edition.

The cycle of suites for flute and basso continuo, Op. 5 is J.-M. Hotteterre's second important set of works in this genre. The first published as Op. 2 has a special significance in the history of music and for performing practice. The composer added namely to the second edition of the work sufficient information concerning ornamentation and performance. (For the modern critical edition of Op. 2 see volume Z. 13901 of the Urtext Series of EMB.) Hotteterre's Op. 5 published in the present edition is an organic continuation of Op. 2. This fact was also emphasized by the composer himself who entitled them ''Premier Livre'' and ''Deuxiéme Livre' on publication. The ornamentsand directions for performance occur here just as copiously as in the revised edition of ''Premier Livre''. Op. 5, ein Zyklus für Flöte und Basso continuo von J.-M. Hotteterre ist die zweite bedeutende Reihe des Komponisten in dieser Gattung. Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941) was a distinguished performer on the Flute. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that his compositions for the instrument are at the forefront of the Flute's repertoire, Sicilienne being no exception. After a prominent career as a flautist with the Paris Opéra, he was appointed as professor of Flute at the Paris Conservatoire, as well as principal conductor of leading orchestras. It was during this time that Gaubert composed,including his Sicilienne which was published in 1914. Even though Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), admittedly, was no fan of the flute, he wrote unforgettable music for this instrument 'that I can't stand': two concertos, a double concerto with harp, the original version of the Wind Concertante and the four flute quartets. Commissioned by the Dutch physician and amateur musician Ferdinand Dejean, Mozart wrote his two solo concertos in 1777/78 during a stay in Mannheim. As the middle movement of the Concerto in G major KV 313 supposedly was too difficult for the client -with regard to the playing technique and/or music - the composer wrote an alternative version, 'Andante' KV 315 (285e). This nice individual movement is now presented in a carefully edited new edition, with a cadenza of the editor - a serenade-like setting that offers the soloist many possibilities for cantabile playing.
