Facsimile of the autograph score in the British Library London-The first performance of George Frideric Handel???s oratorio ???Messiah??? on 13 April 1742 in Dublin aroused unqualified rapture. A newspaper report a few days later declared that it combined ???the Sublime the Grand and the Tender???. Its success has remained undiminished ever since and the ???Messiah??? has taken its place in musical life.In 2009 to mark the 250th anniversary of Handel???s death the British Library and B?renreiter joined forces and made the autograph score of the ???Messiah??? available to the public in a meticulously reproduced lavishly published facsimile.The renowned Handel scholar Donald Burrows introduces the characteristics of Handel???smanuscript describes the history of the work???s composition and explains the differences between later versions of the ???Messiah??? as reflected in the conducting scores. Full Score-The Persian traditional music (called the Dastgah Segah) is based on intervals made of three quarter-tones and natural whole-tones. Segah has no interval in common with the European/ Western equal-temperament tuning. This lack of common intervalsbetween the Segah mode and the equal-temperament tuning will lead to a cognitive dissonance if this mode is set against the equal-temperament system. My goal has been to elaborate on the innate tensions that exists between the two interval systemsand use it as a symbol for the existing political and cultural tensions between the Persian and the Western cultures. The piece consists of two Persian traditional instruments the Ney (Persian vertical bamboo flute) and the Kamanche (Persian spikefiddle) as the musical representatives of the Persian culture set against the Western orchestra as the musical representative of the Western culture. A small ensemble of Western instruments consisting of a harp and string quintet accompanies thePersian instruments. The harp is tuned to the Segah intervals and the string quintet plays in the Segah mode. The orchestra is performing inthe Western equal- temperament tuning. From the very first bars of the main section of the piece confusionsand misunderstandings arise. The orchestra being unable to play in Segah or understand the mode becomes more and more agitated. Musical tensions between the soloists and the orchestra lead to musical confrontations and finally to musicalviolence. The orchestra becomes extremely violent and militaristic and tries to suppress the soloists efforts to express their musical thoughts. In the midst of all these confusions and cultural misunderstandings musical connections and attractionsstart to take place. The orchestra and the soloists find themselves musically attracted to each other and start imitating each others musical phrases. Cognitive dissonances start to be gradually transformed to musical dialogues symbolizing thegradual replacement of the clash of civilizations with the dialogue of civilizations. Segah was written for Khosrow and Kian Soltani and premiered at the Segah Festival on January 15 2016.

Much of his life was spent in Bayreuth working for the court of Wilhelmine of Prussia Margravine of Bayreuth teaching her composition and violin. During his lifetime he composed a variety of orchestra and chamber music including this Concerto in B-flat Major in three movements: Allegro ma non troppo Andante and Allegretto. This edition includes the full orchestral score orchestral parts as well as guitar and lute parts. Victor Van Puijenbroeck has adapted the original solo part and included in the set areparts for both lute (the part has been adapted from lute tablature to modern notation) and guitar (capotasto). Symphonic Fragment for Orchestra. Par SHCHEDRIN RODION. Emotional depth and riveting virtuosity - these elements are what characterise many compositions by Rodion Shchedrin. Even though he has been a cosmopolitan for a long time, the Moscow-born Shchedrin has remained an original Russian composer whose bond with the musical folklore and poetry of his home country has never been severed. This 'Symphonic Fragment', premiered by Mariss Jansons with the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio, refers to the life of Beethoven and the first major existential crisis of the then 31-year-old composer from Vienna. Even if Shchedrin fails to include explicit quotations, suggestions of Beethoven's 'Eroica' can well be found. Full Score-Eugene Onegin the most popular of Tchaikovsky's operas is widely considered a theatrical masterpiece. Adapted from a novel in verse form by Aleksandr Pushkin it is the tale of a jaded Russian aristocrat who scorns the love of Tatyana an attractive young girl of the provincial petty nobility. After years of aimless wandering Onegin returns to St. Petersburg to find Tatyana much changed and married to a prince. Onegin falls in love but this time she rejects him in favour of marital fidelity. Full lyrics in Russian.

With the ?Concerto for Orchestra ? Henle inaugurates a series of affordable study scores based on the text of the Bartók Complete Edition. When Bartók received the commission to compose this piece from Serge Koussevitsky in May 1943 it meant not only financial support but also an important creative impetus for the gravely ill composer. By October the five-movement concerto which Koussevitsky enthusiastically dubbed ?the best orchestral work of the last 25 years ? was already complete. The first performances in the winter of 1944 45 were also very successful. Nevertheless Bartók was moved to set down an alternate ending which thecomposer who passed away in September 1945 would never be destined to hear. Bartók specialist Klára Móricz includes both versions in her edition and summarises the history and transmission of the ?Concerto for Orchestra? in a fascinating foreword. A brief commentary section provides information about the principles underlying the edition.
