Written in 1995 as one part of Lorentzen's 'Suite of Seven Pieces for organ', Mercurius is a symbol of merchants, trade and thiefs, traditionally depicted with wings on his heels, forever restless, scurrying about. The music is divided into sequences of four, resulting in a sense of weightlessness and hurried urgency. The first complete performance of 'The Planets' took place in 1996 and was given by Jens E. Christensen.

Hymn preludes and choral arrangements by Bendt Fabricus (2018). Foreword: This small collection of preludes and choral arrangements is a selection of movements, created through more than 30 years of work as an organist in the Danish National Church. The collectionis first and foremost intended as a useful work tool for all my colleagues around the Danish organ benches. There are movements thatare suitable for the small one-manual organ in the village church and others that are intended for the concert organ in the large city church. Some movements are easy to follow, even with a simple and traditionally constructed structure, while others, both harmonious and rhythmic, offer greater complexity and degree of difficulty. Virtually all the kits composed for two manuals and pedal can also be realized on organs that have only one manual and pedal. As far as registration instructions are concerned, my statements are only intended as a guide to the sonorous expression in a given movement, as of course everyone is free to find exactly the registration that is deemed appropriate on the instrument in question. It is my wish that all organists can benefit fromthe collection and that it will prove to be a useful and beneficial supplement in the daily work. Bendt Fabricius.

French organist and composer Louis Vierne (1870-1937) was a student of César Franck and Charles-Marie Widor and worked as the organist for Notre-Dame de Paris from 1900 until his death, which took place on the organ bench at a recital. He composed many works for organ, among them six organ symphonies and a Messe solennelle for chorus and two organs. His six symphonies express the highs and lows of his personal life, and all are written in minor keys. Vierne's Organ Symphony No. 2, Op. 20, is in E minor. Movements: I. Allegro; II. Choral; III. Scherzo; IV. Cantabile; V. Final.

The pieces are meant as a kind of organ proper of Mass. Chorales and chants from the Catholic hymnbook are used for the music of the movements 'Halleluja', 'Offertorium' and 'Communio'. According to the spiritual content of the texts, there are both meditative and lively, virtuoso sections. The fourth movement, a toccata on the 'Ite missa est', ends the work with lavish organ sounds. The world premiere of the piece took place at the Cathedral of Salzburg in 1994 in the rare and demanding instrumentation for two organs.

The Blue Rose Variations is one of several works in which the composer has drawn on ragtime and blues. The organ work is based on two transformations of the popular piano piece To A Wild Rose (Woodland Sketches, Op.51 No.1) by the American composer, Edward MacDowell (1860-1908). During the course of the Variations, To A Wild Rose appears as a blues and also as a classical rag, often as both together. The sections are Theme: a quiet blues; Variation I: a pedal solo in varied metres based on the blues in fast tempo; Variation II: the first appearance of the rag as a background to the blues as a 2' pedal solo; Variation III: a version of Variation I now involving manuals too; Variation IV: another blues solo against the rag; Variation V: another version of Variation I with the pedal solo almost entirely transferred to the manuals; Variation VI: a final confrontation between the blues and the rag, now much decorated. First performed in New York in April 1986. Duration c.15 mins.

Written in the year of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Malcolm Archer reflects the mood of national celebration in his new march for organ The Royal Standard. The title alludes to the famous emblem of royalty that flies proudly over Buckingham Palace when the sovereign is in residence. Befitting its subject, this stirring music is in the high ceremonial style of Elgar and Walton, as colourful as the royal banner in blue, red and gold, but with a modern flavour too in its syncopated main theme. Director of Chapel Music at Winchester College, Malcolm Archer needs no introduction as a church musician, conductor, composer and recitalist. The piece is of intermediate standard, and is suitable for a variety of instruments with two manuals and pedals.

Composer and organist, Joseph Bonnet (1884-1944) is considered one of the most major French pipe organ players. It is no surprise, therefore, that his Concert Variations for Organ are very well informed. Following his studies at the Paris Conservatoire, Bonnet took over as concert organist at the institution. Concert Variations for Organ was compiled in 1906, soon after his graduation. The work begins with a helpful index of the organ registrations and performance directions. Concert Variations begins with a virtuosic, cadenza-like theme in E minor. Following this, four variations are heard, all containing contrast in organ sound, tonality and exploited melody and rhythm. For all advanced, aspiring organists, Bonnet's Concert Variations is an essential addition to the repertoire.
