In the 19th and early 20th centuries, transcriptions of large (choral) symphonic works for two pianos were extremely popular: They enabled a large audience to get to know classical compositions in an age before recorded music. In many cases, world-famous works were first performed in such a version â?? including Brucknerâ??s Te Deum. Unfortunately, only a few bars of this transcription have survived. The Stuttgart composer, pianist and experienced piano-duo performer Sebastian Bartmann was commissioned by the Landesakademie für die musizierende Jugend in Baden-Württemberg Ochsenhausen to newly arrange Brucknerâ??s Te Deum and the Mass in D minor for soloists, choir and two pianos. A timpani part (ad libitum) provides additional color. The arrangements are based on the original Carus editions. The vocal scores and choral scores of the original version can also be used.Today the Te Deum is Brucknerâ??s most frequently performed vocal work. The greatest challenges for any choir are the high register and the enormous orchestration of this extremely effective piece: The singers are often required to declaim against a large orchestra performing forte fortissimo! This problem is resolved in the arrangement for two pianos; moreover, the scaling back of the sonic forces helps reveal compositional structures that otherwise can all too easily get lost in the intoxicating orchestral sound.. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.2719000.

This arrangement for soloists, choir and 2 pianos has an air of transparency, rather like a work of chamber music.. Score available separately - see item CA.2709200.

Next to the Stabat Mater, the Petite Messe solennelle of 1863 is Rossini's second extensive sacred composition. Ostensibly, the work was an occasional piece, written for the dedication of a private chapel for the once well-to-do Parisian nobility. This explains the reduced instrumental accompaniment for two pianos and harmonium. Of course this instrumental garb, reminiscent of decent, elevated salon music, produces an unmistakable timbre which through its typical Rossini rhythm obtains an additional flair. The cantata for the 20th Sunday after Trinity. Ah! I see now, as I to the wedding bidden, BWV 162 was first performed on 25 October 1716 in the Castle church at Weimar. During the first year in his position as Thomaskantor, Bach made a revival performance of the cantata on 10 October 1723. For this Leipzig version he added an additional obbligato voice in the first movement and in the final chorale he added a Corno da tirarsi, which played colla-parte with the soprano. However, we do not know what this mysterious instrument looked like. For performances today we recommend using a trumpet or a slide trumpet. The cantata begins not with an introductory chorus, but rather with a sonorous bass aria with a string accompaniment and obbligato trumpet. The following movements, movement 2 through 5, are also performed by vocal soloists. The third movement, a soprano aria, presents a peculiarity: the obbligato wind parts were not contained in the original version of this cantata. Our edition offers a reconstruction for the flute, made by the famous Bach interpreter and expert, Masaaki Suzuki. Score available separately - see item CA.3116200.

The history of the genesis of the Requiem is entwined with legends and anecdotes. The burdens of the composition and performance of La Clemenza di Tito and Die Zauberflote, and an acute infection led to the collapse and death of the composer following a short illness. Mozart left his wife in considerable debt. Constanze therefore turned to Mozart's friends, asking them to complete the fragment. After two failed attempts, the task passed to Mozart's pupil Franz Xaver Sussmayr, who completed the Requiem in the form known today, using working materials that are no longer extant, and perhaps verbal instructions from the composer. Today the Sussmayr version is still the most well known, and it is doubtless the one with the closest historical ties to Mozart. This work is now available in carus music, the choir app!
