This quartet for Saxophones entitled Introduction Et Variations Sur Une Ronde Populaire by Gabriel Pierné is a standard in the Saxophone quartet repertoire. Composed in 1934 and dedicated to the Marcel Mule Quartet this piece for advanced players is as bright and cheerful as a round dance should be and yet quite delicate and light in terms of writing. With many ornaments and variations  Introduction Et Variations begins slowly but is interrupted twice by the roundo. Gabriel Pierné (1863-1937) won the Prix de Rome in 1882. The composer wrote manychamber compositions Piano pieces symphonic music and some oratorios.

French composer and conductor Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) published Three Divertissements for Clarinet Quartet in 1964. As with his other wind compositions Three Divertissements was well-received by audiences. Tomasi was born in Marseille but his Father and Mother were originally from La Casinca in Corsica. Despite being pressured into musical studies by his parents Tomasi dreamed of becoming a sailor and during the summer he stayed with his Grandmother in Corsica where he learnt traditional Corsican songs. However in 1921 he began his studies at the Paris Conservatoire and went on to become ahigh profile composer and conductor. Tomasi did not forget his Corsican routes often incorporating themes of the songs he had learnt during the summers with his Grandmother into his compositions. The Three Divertissements are named; 1) Proceedings 2) Masquerade and 3) Rounds. This Tomasi piece is suitable to an advanced Clarinet Quartet providing an exciting alternative addition to the ensemble repertoire.

Better known in the UK as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone this is the first of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter novels - the seven-part tale of Harry Potter’s training as a wizard and his coming of age. 'Romance' (8 mins) was first performed in 2009 by the Finzi Quartet at London's Wigmore Hall, and has been recorded by them on Resonus Classics RES 10109. 'Elegy' (9 mins) and 'Prelude' (5 mins) were first performed in 2014 by the Marilla Quartet at Downe House School, Berkshire, UK. One of Howard Goodall’s most popular choral settings Love Divine has been skilfully arranged for brass band by Andrew Wainwright with the approval of the composer. This version is based on the setting with piano and strings and can be performed as a self-standing concert work or as an accompaniment for performance by a large choir.
