Being interested in certain aspects of popular music, I became aware of several similarities between popular Neapolitan melodies and the Argentinean tango. Napolitango is based on an imaginary journey to Naples and Buenos Aires. In retaining certain characteristics of the original music, Napolitango embodies an inspiration and an almost theatrically passionate character which is common to these two genres.
The piece has been composed for the Parisian Festival Paris Banlieues Tango 2001.

The pianist, composer, arranger and cabaret artist Peter Ludwig is an all-round talent from Bavaria. He writes film music, chansons, chamber music, piano music, and, above all, beautiful inspired tangos bridging the gap between South America and Europe. Together with the cellist Anja Lechner, he received the award of the German Phono Academy for his CD 'Tango mortale' in the 1980s. Since then, he has not been able to get the tango out of his mind, and today he performs as a pianist of the piano trio 'Tango a trois'. The tangos for violoncello and piano are a valuable addition to the cello repertoire and also perfect for concert performances.

Tangos, like ragtimes and waltzes, are an integral part of Elena Kats-Chernin's music, always in a new and varied form. In it, the composer allusively combines her present time with the classical tradition and high art with light music. Slicked Back Tango was originally composed in 1995 for piano four hands and has since been written for numerous other instrumentations. The music “harks back to the time of silent movies. I was thinking of the 1920s and film star Rudolph Valentino. The title refers to his hairstyle”, says Kats-Chernin.

This piece was written to celebrate the Loudoun County Public Schools' orchestra's inaugural school year. Administration, staff, families, and students worked tirelessly to bring orchestral music to the schools. Kevin R. Berdine's Loudon Tango was chosen by the students as dance music had been their favorite music to play. Written in the string friendly key of D minor, this lively tango includes interesting parts for all sections and an idiomatic percussion ensemble accompaniment. (3:00).
