Bruckner's Ave Maria (WAB 7) written in 1882 for solo alto voice and organ is lush and contains a plainchant section in the middle of the A-B-A form work. Jeff Reynolds' arrangement has added an optional Contrabass part to the bottom of this splendid 4-part work for Trombone ensemble and also added tuning marks to guide performers towards perfect just ensemble tuning. This 3 minute work is appropriate for moderately advanced performers (tenor clef in part 1 and top note is a high B-flat).

In September 2024, we celebrate the 200th birthday of the Upper Austrian composer and organist Anton Bruckner. Many of his well-known works have already been arranged for wind orchestras, but the Quadrille, originally composed for piano for four hands, is still missing in the repertoire. This arrangement by Andreas Ziegelbäck aims to fill that gap, staying closer to the original piano version. While the six movements of the piece can be seen as standalone short pieces, it is recommended to perform all movements. This arrangement expands Anton Bruckner's repertoire for wind orchestras with a rarely played musical gem.

In this interesting motet by Bruckner, short imitative choral sections alternate with monophonic chorale passages. There are also sections in the old falsobordone setting. The short work on a verse from the Te Deum was composed in 1884.

In 1866 Anton Bruckner composed his solemn Mass in E minor, which he revised extensively in 1876-1882. Composed for a performance in the open air, the work stands out among Bruckner's Masses and those of his contemporaries because of its scoring, omitting strings and organ in favor of an accompaniment for wind and brass instruments alone (Harmoniemusik). This scholarly-critical new edition of this second version takes into consideration for the first time the surviving parts from the Bruckner Archive at the St. Florian Monastery and the choral parts rediscovered in 2016 in the Linz Cathedral Choir Archive. These have enabled more precise editorial decisions to be made regarding the scoring of individual passages as well as articulation and dynamics.

The text of this hymn was written by Father Robert Riepl (1826-1871), member of the Schutzengelbruderschaft (brotherhood of guardian angels) at Wilhering Abbey and a friend of the composer. Bruckner revised the hymn, first set to music for mixed choir in 1868, for male choir in 1886. Score available separately - see item CA.338700.

Bruckner's setting of the 23rd Psalm (22 in the Vulgate count) is still quite unknown. Bruckner uses the German text version by Joseph Franz Allioli instead of the well-known Luther version. Accompanied by the piano, the piece for choir and solo (choir solos possible) begins with a pastoral section in 12/8, changes into a fugue, and ends with an a cappella chorale.

Bruckner’s mighty Mass in F minor is one of his most significant creations and one of the great 19th-century choral works. The composer uniquely succeeds in exploring faith through the lens of music. In doing so, he ventures into extreme forms of expression, which caused some disgruntlement among the musicians at rehearsals for the premiere in November 1868. In subsequent years, however, the work has gradually become more accepted, and today presents a highly appealing challenge to advanced choirs. The Carus edition presents the Mass in F minor as the final 1893 version based on the autograph and the surviving copies from the copyist. As an Urtext edition it follows the latest scholarly standards ready for the Bruckner anniversary year in 2024!

This gradual for the Feast of Holy Church Fathers was composed in 1879. The Lydian setting is, as Bruckner himself said, without sharps, without flats, without triads on the 7th step, without six-four chords, without the sounds of fourths or fifths.

The responsory Libera me from the Requiem Mass dates from Bruckner's years of study in Kronstorf and is stylistically reminiscent of the early Viennese classical period. The organ takes over the function of the basso continuo.
