Four short pieces in loving memory of the composer's ear training teacher at Juilliard, Renée Longy. Though the composer himself thought of the pieces as atonal, Leonard Bernstein once said that these are in D minor, and you're a hopeless romantic. Composed in 1979, these pieces are still poignant today.Piano Duration: 10' Composed: 1980 Published by: Distributed Composer.

Because of the nature of the canons, they may be extended at will if used as processionals. Handchimes may be substituted for Handbells.

Hailstork names his four diverse pieces for trumpet Hymns, because of the hymn-like impression of the opening statements. These short pieces can be played individually or as a set, and can well serve within the worship service as processional or recessional. Four Hymns Without Words is available in two versions for piano or organ accompaniment.Music for trumpet and organ has a long grand history, especially as written by English composers. These four pieces were written to be used as separate service pieces or as a suite. I then decided to orchestrate them as a concert suite I had some themes that reminded me of church hymns, especially processionals, from my early years growing up as a singer in an Episcopal cathedral. I kept envisioning entrance music when I worked on Hymns 1 and 2, then quiet hymn (with a minor key ending!) as might occur in a Black church for no. 3, and, finally, a buoyant exit song for the recessional as the church doors are flung open to the sun..Music for trumpet and organ has a long grand history, especially as written by English composers. These four pieces were written to be used as separate service pieces or as a suite. Written in 1840 shortly after Clara Schumann's (1819-1896) marriage to Robert Schumann, Quatre pièces fugitives (Four Fugitive Pieces) are short character works, each with its own distinct mood. Called fugitive, Schumann makes clear that this introspective music is freer, with fewer conventional restrictions found in earlier eras. Movements: I. Larghetto, II. Un poco agitato, III. Andante espressivo, and IV. Scherzo.

These little pieces are intended for flautists of about a year's standing. It is hoped that this small album will also help to foster in young players a taste for ensemble playing: the two simple trios also include oboe and clarinet, but if these instruments are not available the parts may be played on a violin.

This series of easy piano pieces for teaching purposes presents pupils in the early and early-middle stages with a careful selection from well-known and less-known compositions by important masters. The individual volumes are deliberately kept small in compass, since it is more stimulating for children if the literature used for instruction is changed frequently. Amongst the numerous piano works of the composer, pianist and music publisher Anton Diabelli there are some instructional works for piano duet (four hands at one piano) that have retained their freshness and value to this day as the Melodie Studies, op. 149. These attractive short pieces will still appeal to today's piano-playing young people. In the original version, the secondo part is designed for the teacher. In the present edition, this part has been rearranged in such a manner that it, too, lies within the capacities of the student. Heinz Walter, Salzburg, Fall 1974.
