Despite the pressures of his teaching position Franz Schubert created a particularly large number of works in the year 1815. Besides around 140 new Lieder he composed the second and third symphonies four stage works the first important compositions for piano the String Quartet in G minor (D 173) and two Masses: the Mass in G major (D 167) and the Mass in B-flat major the object of this edition. Considering that the Mass in F major (D 105) was written from May to July 1814 and the Mass in C major (D 452) during June and July 1816 we can see that Schubert composed four of the six complete Mass settings which have survived from his hand within the short span of twoyears. The Mass was presumably first performed in Lichtental shortly after its completion. The fact that some partly autographic parts the organ part three soprano and three alto parts were made around 1820 seems to point to a second performance. And from Schubert’s brother Ferdinand we know that the Mass was performed a third time at the parish church in Hainburg at the beginning of October 1824 since Ferdinand played the organ on that occasion. The Mass was first issued in 1837 as Opus 141 by the Viennese publisher Tobias Haslinger.- Urtext of the New Schubert Edition- Full score performance material (BA5621) and vocal score (BA5621-90) available for sale

Kantate. Par MOZART WOLFGANG AMADEUS. The Vienna Musicians’ Society, a pension fund for the widows and orphans of professional musicians, asked Mozart, among others, to compose a choral work for performance at their benefit concert series. Presumably it was due not just to the pressure of a deadline, but also for the chance to have the music of the torso of the great C minor Mass, K. 427, performed in Vienna that he chose to arrange this composition for the Society as the cantata Davide penitente (The Mass was originally written for a performance in Salzburg in 1783). Thus, Mozart set the Kyrie and Gloria with a sacred text in Italian in the style of penitential prayers. The text was suited for Lent, whichoccurred at the time of the benefit concert. He also added one newly-composed aria for tenor and one aria for soprano. / Musique religieuse / Répertoire / Solistes SST, Choeur SATB/SATB, Flûte Traversière,

| Gaetano Donizetti: La
fille du régiment:
Orchestra: Score Orchestra [Score] Ricordi
Edizione critica a cura di Claudio Toscani (testi in italiano e inglese). La fil...(+)
Edizione critica a cura di Claudio Toscani (testi in italiano e inglese). La fille du régiment, always one of Donizetti?s most popular stage works, was first performed at the Théâtre de l?Opéra-Comique in Paris on 11 February 1840. It was composed by Donizetti, to a libretto by Saint-Georges and Bayard, in 1839, for the French debut of soprano Juliette Bourgeois. Later on, Donizetti prepared an Italian version as well, using a libretto adaptation by Calisto Bassi, and making several alterations to the French version of the score (the premiere of the new version, entitled La figlia del reggimento, took place at La Scala Theatre in Milano on 3 October 1840). The opera enjoyed tremendous success ? at the Opéra-Comique alone, more than one thousand performances were given between 1840 and 1917 ?, and was widely staged in the major European and American opera houses.
Owing to the lack of available autograph music sources ? only a few score sketches and fragments survive, kept at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France ?, the principal source for this edition is the printed score prepared by the Parisian publisher Georges Schonenberger during the spring of 1840. Together with the full score, Schonenberger also engraved and printed the orchestral parts. Previously, the publishing house had printed the piano vocal score of several selected numbers from La fille du régiment, as well as the complete score reduction of the work. The Schonenberger edition constitutes, however, a problematical source. The engravers had to work under great pressure - the score was assembled in less than a month -, and the final product turned out to be of mediocre quality, abounding in imperfections, errors, and inconsistencies affecting both the literary and the musical texts. This critical edition has therefore been realized, first of all, through a careful reconstruction process: the text handed down by tradition was compared with a number of sources (including the manuscript scores of the Italian version) that have enabled the editor to address the multiple problems posed by the principal source. The spoken dialogues, missing in the printed music sources, are derived from the libretto used for the première.
The critical edition of La fille du régiment reinstates Tonio?s romance «Pour me rapprocher de Marie» from Act Two, included in the original libretto and actually sung at the première, but expunged from the Schonenberger edition of the score. Donizetti himself cut the romance soon after the première, possibly because of the tenor?s poor performance - as a result, the omission became customary. The appendices to this critical edition present, additionally, two unpublished variants, handed down in form of complete and autograph score: these pieces, crossed out or modified through the compositional process, add fresh new possibilities to current performance practices. The first one is a duet for Marie and Tonio that Donizetti had originally devised for Act Two, but later deleted from the score. The second one is a preliminary draft of the Act Two Finale, later expunged and replaced, in both music and literary text, by the final version.

Haydn's Symphony Hob. I:89 belongs to a group of symphonies composed between the ?Paris? symphonies (Hob. I:82-87) and their ?London? counterparts (Hob. I: 93-104) the last ones he wrote before his trips to England in 1791-92 and 1794-95.The Symphony in F major is dated 1787 in the autograph score. In this work Haydn borrowed two movements from an earlier piece possibly owing to deadline pressure. The second and fourth movements are arrangements of movements 2 and 3 from his Concerto in F major Hob. VIIh:5 for two ?lire organizzate? and orchestra. The fact that he also arranged movements from his other lire concertos suggests that heregarded them as a sort of musical quarry. This at least allowed him to recycle parts of these works after his patron had probably prohibited him from offering them commercially. This edition continues the collaboration with the Henle publishing company regarding Haydn's large-scale choral works operas and symphonies. It is based on the Henle Complete Edition of the Works of Joseph Haydn. The complete performance material for several Sturm und Drang symphonies and all of the London and Paris symphonies is now available from Bärenreiter.
