Carl Fischer Music #CPS250. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.CPS250). ISBN 9781491159576. UPC: 680160918164. Kaleidoscope Sky is inspired by the breathtaking pastime of hot-air ballooning and the glorious festivals around the world that honor the practice. A sky full of colorful spheres elegantly floating at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, International Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, Mondial Air Ballons and more draw thousands of people to witness awe-inspiring scenes full of passionate balloonists. Traditional hot-air balloons mix with creatively designed balloons to thrill the tens of thousands of spectators below. While I personally am not a person who dreams of taking my own flight--heights are not my thing--I have to marvel at how gently and easily these vessels float among the clouds. It truly is an image of exquisite freedom. This piece reflects the view and experience of the onlooker taking in an elegantly shifting scene reminiscent of kaleidoscope patterns. Spectators like me can appreciate the beauty and vibrancy associated with a horizon full of adventurous balloonists and their wondrous aircrafts. Kaleidoscope Sky starts in a triumphant and celebratory fashion and continues to conjure images reminiscent of the wide variety of soaring colors on display at a hot-air balloon event. Ultimately, the piece appropriately concludes with a suspenseful, yet graceful, run to the finish line. Melodic lines should soar with attention being paid to phrase markings and assigned articulations. Encourage musicians to allow room for the melodic material to be heard in thicker textures where supporting harmonies are often rhythmic in nature. These harmonies should support, and not cloud the melodies. The meter changes should sound effortless, and the continuous figures in the percussion will help to achieve this effect. The snare drum, in particular, should bring accented notes to the foreground while maintaining a steady textural effect with non-accented notes as a rhythmic background. This will go a long way in finding a cohesive subdivision and ensemble pulse. | Rise Up! Forton Music
Trumpet and piano - Intermediate-Advanced SKU: FT.FM410 Composed by Otto ...(+)
Trumpet and piano - Intermediate-Advanced SKU: FT.FM410 Composed by Otto Martin Christensen. Trumpet and Piano. Score and Part. Forton Music #FM410. Published by Forton Music (FT.FM410). ISBN 9790570483099. As the title suggests, 'Rise Up!' starts with an ascending figure in the trumpet part, which climbs up to high concert B flat. It makes use of jazz trumpet techniques, like the shake, fall and doit, and the piece as such has a distinct rhythmic verve. It calms down in the middle section though, where it picks up the initial phrase of the hymn tune 'Thine Be The Glory', which is woven into the ascending figure which comes back in the concluding part. 'Rise Up!' may be used as a short, stand-alone concert piece, where the trumpet player is given an opportunity to display his technique and stamina in the upper register. With it's celebratory character, the piece will also fit in at festive occasions like weddings. $16.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Solo, SATB choir, and piano or full orchestra - Intermediate SKU: MN.50-0555 Composed by William Beckstrand. Advent, Hanging of the Green, Lessons and Carols, 21st Century. Choral score. MorningStar Music Publishers #50-0555. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers (MN.50-0555). UPC: 688670505553. English. Commissioned by the Thunder Bay Symphony Chorus, this is a creative setting of the familiar original material. There is a full orchestra accompaniment and a piano reduction which also works quite well to convey the spirit of the larger forces. The choral parts are challenging in spots where interpolations are written and the rhythm changes, but much of it is easy and fun to sing. The composer has written original music for two inner verses which provides a lovely contrast and variety to the main theme. These two verses are set to the same melody, the latter one featuring a soloist in a medium range. The overall effect is celebratory and joyful! $3.15 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Piano SKU: BT.MUSM570364459 Composed by Robert Saxton. Classical. Book Only. 24 pages. University of York Music Press #MUSM570364459. Published by University of York Music Press (BT.MUSM570364459). English. Robert Saxton 's Hortus Musicae , Book 1 was commissioned by Ian Richie for the 2013 City of London Festival with funds provided by the John S. Cohen Foundation. The first performance was given by Clare Hammond on June 24th 2013 at the church of St Mary Le Bow. The title, less 'literal' in Latin than in the vernacular, refers to the idea of an allegorical/metaphysical garden (reference to a 'real', or existing, garden might be implied by Hortus Musicus) with various facets. The titles of the individual pieces/movements, with their respective garden image, are as follows: 1) Hortus Somniorum: a fleeting vision of a 'magical' garden 2) Hortus Temporis: a reflection of/on the floralclock described by Andrew Marvell (1621-1678) in his [metaphysical] poem The Garden: How well the skilful gardener drew Of flowers and herbs this dial new Where from above the milder sun Does through a fragrant zodiac run; And, as it works, the industrious bee Computes its time as well as we. How could such sweet and wholesome hours Be reckoned but with herbs and flowers! 3) Hortus Cantus: A garden in which nature 'sings' (praises), in the manner of a 'chorale prelude' and ending with the cantus firmus transformed into bells. 4) Hortus Infinitatis: A meditative/formal garden representing Time suspended, in the form of a palindromic prolation canon combined with a harmonic ground (chaconne). 5) Saltatio Hortensis: A (summer) garden of dancing, celebratory nature. Its essence (and that of the entire cycle, both metaphorically and structurally/formally) is summed up in words spoken by Miranda in WH Auden's 1944 Tempest [Shakespeare]-inspired poem The Sea And The Mirror; So, to remember our changing garden, we Are linked as children in a circle dancing. Choral (SATB Choir) SKU: HL.48021234 From Cantata academica, Carmen ba...(+)
Choral (SATB Choir) SKU: HL.48021234 From Cantata academica, Carmen basiliense. Composed by Benjamin Britten. Boosey & Hawkes Sacred Choral. Classical. Octavo. 16 pages. Boosey & Hawkes #M051482474. Published by Boosey & Hawkes (HL.48021234). ISBN 9781458423542. UPC: 884088642037. 6.75x10.5 inches. Text: in Latin compiled from the charter of the University, and from older orations in praise of Basle by Bernhard Wyss.
Publisher: Boosey & Hawkes
Difficulty level: 4 (for chorus)
Britten's genius lifts this work above being just a worthy celebration of the 500th anniversary of the foundation of Basle University. It is tongue-in-cheek and mockingly non-academic while referring all the time to academic musical forms and formulae. It is written in two parts (everything is in the statutory Latin including the titles of the parts - Pars I and Pars II). The titles of the movements show Britten's intention to show off a wide variety of techniques. Here are some examples: Chorale/Alla Rovescio (the theme is given and responded to with the same melody upside down)/Recitativo/Tema seriale con fuga/Canone ed ostinato. There is a good deal of humour here.
There are seven movements in Pars I and six in Pars II. The tenor soloist is given three florid recitatives, accompanied only by a piano, which act as bridges between other orchestrally accompanied movements. Of these the most noteworthy are the Arioso con canto popolare for soprano solo with tenors and basses who hum a student song; another terrific Britten scherzo; and a wonderfully raucous final pair of movements (Canon ed ostinato and Corale con canto) where Britten seems to be aping the Vivat Regina! cries in Parry's I was glad or encouraging the kind of noisy 'I'm from the best university' kind of student touchline shout. This has outrageously high notes for the tenors (top B) which further endorse this feeling. There are real echoes of the Spring Symphony (see separate entry) final movement here which are further underlined by the last section of the Cantata which brings in the bells, piano, huge percussion and the inevitable chorale in which the choir sings 'that a free academy may thrive in a free community, for ever the ornament and treasure of illustrious Basle'.
This may not be Britten at his most soul-searching but, as always, there is plenty here to enjoy, especially if the work is not taken too seriously. It is a celebratory, occasional piece and it could be well taken up by other academic establishments celebrating big anniversaries. The chorus parts are not very difficult, though they do present challenges for the choir - not least in having tenors capable of those very high notes at the end. The Tema seriale con fuga is sinewy and needs careful tuning. It also has the subject regularly given upside down after its initial sounding by the basses. All good fun.

Orchestra Cello, Contrabass, Piano, Viola, Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3 - Grade 2 SKU: CF.YAS176 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by Larry Clark. SWS FS. Young String Orchestra. Set of Score and Parts. With Standard notation. 16+16+2+5+5+3+5+12 pages. Duration 2 minutes, 34 seconds. Carl Fischer Music #YAS176. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.YAS176). ISBN 9781491146569. UPC: 680160904068. 9 x 12 inches. Key: G major. This triumphant work by composer Alan Lee Silva will be a perfect selection for your next contest or festival performance. Atlantic Crossing contains all the signature flowing lines and warm harmonies that have made Silva's music so popular and fresh. A joyous journey across the ocean begins in the opening measures, featuring triumphant violins and violas and accented cellos and basses. After the celebratory introduction, Atlantic Crossing comes down in dynamics and transitions to the lyrical A melody in the violins (m. 9) and continues with an AAB form. The violas take over with the flowing B-theme in m. 17 as the rest of the ensemble accompanies the tune with lush harmonies at a lower dynamic. A two-measure build in mm. 24-25 with ascending violins leads back to a reprise of the powerful introductory statement where the ensemble plays full-out with precise articulations and accents. A two-measure interlude in mm. 34-35 slows the energy down to return to the legato A-theme in the violins and violas. Violas carry the B-theme once again in m. 44 with syncopated and accented answer motifs in the violins. The key center shifts at m. 53, and the violins play the melody in a legato interpretationof the introductory theme. The rest of the group plays their accompaniment figures smoothly and expressively underneath. After the molto ritardando at m. 61, the piece returns to the original key center of G. From there the group plays with driving energy as before in the introduction to the final punctuated note in m. 76. About Carl Fischer Young String Orchestra Series This series of Grade 2/Grade 2.5 pieces is designed for second and third year ensembles. Published by Chester Music (HL.14023639). UPC: 884088814373. 8.0x12.0 inches. The composer made this arrangement of the Third String Quartet for string orchestra in March 2003. The first performance was given by the Eos Orchestra, New York, conducted by Ken Selden in the Concert Hall, Ethical Cultural Society, New York City on 24 April 2003.Quoting composer: In the summer of 1989 I composed a choral work, Out of the Ruins, for Agnieszka Piotrowska's BBC2 documentary which dealt with the physical and emotional responses of some of the inhabitants of Leninakhan to the earthquake which devastated Armenia the previous December. When he heard the recording of the work that I made with the Holy Echmiadzin Chorus under the fervent conducting of Khoren Meykhanejian, Alex Balanescu suggested turning Out of the Ruins into a string quartet. There seemed no reason or opportunity to do this until I felt the need to add to the intensity of my experiences in Armenia the no less profound experience of witnessing the images of the Romanian revolution on television during the latter part of December 1989.Just as the structure of my Third String Quartet (1990) may connect it with the First, so they also share a debt to Thurston Dart (my professor at King's College, London, between 1961 and 1965). It was Dart who had the inspiration to send me to Romania in 1965, ostensibly to study folk music. The volumes of transcriptions that I brought back with me had remained unopened until, with this proposed 'celebratory' string quartet (though at the time it was difficult to know quite what to celebrate in postrevolutionary Romania), an occasion arose where I could use this material in what seemed to me was a non-exploitative manner. The compositional procedure was as follows: to take Out of the Ruins as a template on which the Romanian vocal or instrumental music would be superimposed, quite often stretched into new intervallic shapes through the demands of the completely pre-formed harmonic structure. $24.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Nunc Dimittis was written for the Fall, 2004 tour of Cantori Domino to York, England and performance during Evensong at York Minster. The accompanying Magnificat was written shortly before the completion of the Nunc Dimittis. Whereas the Magnificat was written to be boisterous and celebratory in its rendition, the Nunc Dimittis, utilizing the Gregorian chant as the main theme, evokes a more prayerful attitude with its softer tonalities and rhythms, then ending with a Gloria Patri, similar to the one contained in the Magnificat. $3.25 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

There seemed no reason or opportunity to do this until I felt the need to add to the intensity of my experiences in Armenia the no lessprofound experience of witnessing the images of the Romanian revolution on television during the latter part of December 1989.Just as the structure of my Third String Quartet (1990) may connect it with the First so they alsoshare a debt to Thurston Dart (my professor at King’s College London between 1961 and 1965). It was Dart who had the inspiration to send me to Romania in 1965 ostensibly to study folk music. The volumes of transcriptions that Ibrought back with me had remained unopened until with this proposed ‘celebratory’ string quartet (though at the time it was difficult to know quite what to celebrate in postrevolutionary Romania) an occasion arose where I coulduse this material in what seemed to me was a non-exploitative manner. The compositional procedure was as follows: to take Out of the Ruins as a template on which the Romanian vocal or instrumental music would besuperimposed quite often stretched into new intervallic shapes through the demands of the completely pre-formed harmonic structure.

Robert Saxton's Hortus Musicae Book 1 was commissioned by Ian Richie for the 2013 City of London Festival with funds provided by the John S. Cohen Foundation. The first performance was given by Clare Hammond on June 24th 2013 at the church of St Mary Le Bow. The title less 'literal' in Latin than in the vernacular refers to the idea of an allegorical/metaphysical garden (reference to a 'real' or existing garden might be implied by Hortus Musicus) with various facets. The titles of the individual pieces/movements with their respective garden image are as follows: 1) Hortus Somniorum: afleeting vision of a 'magical' garden 2) Hortus Temporis: a reflection of/on the floral clock described by Andrew Marvell (1621-1678) in his [metaphysical] poem The Garden: How well the skilful gardener drewOf flowers and herbs this dial newWhere from above the milder sunDoes through a fragrant zodiac run;And as it works the industrious beeComputes its time as well as we.How could such sweet and wholesome hoursBe reckoned but with herbs and flowers! 3) Hortus Cantus: A garden in which nature 'sings' (praises) in the manner of a 'chorale prelude' and ending with the cantus firmus transformed into bells. 4) Hortus Infinitatis: A meditative/formal garden representing Time suspended in the form of a palindromic prolation canon combined with a harmonic ground (chaconne). 5) Saltatio Hortensis: A (summer) garden of dancing celebratory nature. Its essence (and that of the entire cycle both metaphorically and structurally/formally) is summed up in words spoken by Miranda in WH Auden's 1944 Tempest [Shakespeare]-inspired poem The Sea And The Mirror; So to remember our changing garden weAre linked as children in a circle dancing.
