This SSAA work, originally written for SATB voices celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Masterworks Community Chorale in Newnan, Georgia. The inspirational text is Somewhere I Have Never Traveled, a text by the Yale Theologian, Thomas Troeger. Somewhere I Have Never Traveled has potential for building tone and creating a panorama of colors, while at the same time creating emotional soundscapes, all through a delightful text that creates a dreamlike innocence. It has been a joy to re-voice this original SATB composition for SSAA voices and to collaborate with Heather Orr at Montgomery High School. In July 2014, my dear friend Kathy Bizarth commissioned me to compose a new work celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Masterworks Community Chorale in Newnan, Georgia. It was in September when we agreed on the inspirational text, Somewhere I Have Never Traveled, a text by the Yale Theologian, Thomas Troeger. I moved to Italy in January for a sabbatical, and in February, I spent four days composing the piece at the Palazzo Bassi Brugnatelli, a dear friend's villa in Robbiate, Italy. Interestingly enough, the middle part of the piece (mm. 30-39) and end of the piece came first (mm. 40-62). Completed in Conegliano in late February, this composition is very special to me as it was the first composition I wrote after my mother died, and it was also composed for a dear friend. I have a profound connection to what I hope will be a deeply inspirational composition to those who sing it. Somewhere I Have Never Traveled has real potential for building tone and creating a panorama of colors, while at the same time creating emotional soundscapes, all through a delightful text that creates a dreamlike innocence. Somewhere I have never traveled is the place I want to be... Composer Jeanie Murrow writes, My mother, Mary Helen Novak, died 3 days before Christmas in 2016; it was unexpected. My father Daniel Novak, died a year later on December 26, the day after Christmas. In this piece, the opening motif is Mom calling to Dad from Heaven, to come join her; throughout the piece she continues to prod him with that starting motif. Her Christmas song is Silent Night. He answers her with The First Noel, indicating that he would like just one more Christmas with loved ones. Finally, they both sleep in Heavenly Peace..

George Nicholson 's ten minute 2013 piece Tronie , arranged for solo Piano. This solo Piano piece was written in 2013. It is a response to Rembrandt's astonishing portrait of his mother painted when he was in his early twenties and at a time when she would have been about sixty and therefore described as an 'old woman'. It may have been intended rather as a generic depiction of the ravages of old age a 'tronie' or genre painting but it strikes me as being a very moving and vividly characterised study of a real living individual, a penetratingly honest and unflinching portrayal at that. In Tronie I have attempted to make a musical statement about old age not only thefrailty, the loss of powers and the resignation, but also the pride and defiance of the old. The piece is dedicated to the memory of my mother-in-law, Andy Ginsborg, who died in February 2013. - George Nicholson.

Uuno Klami (1900-1961) was born in Virolahti and studied in Helsinki, Paris and Vienna. While living in the capital city Helsinki, he always spent his summers in the original homestead in Virolahti. Klami is most known for his colourful orchestral works, but works for piano frame the different times of the composer's life nicely. The piano works are so joyous that transcribing from for organ is firmly based. Surumarssi (Trauermarsch) Op. 8 was composed when Klami was 16 years old, most likely in memory of his late mother. Pastoral A-flat major was composed in December 1919; I find it contains the feeling of Christmas. Barcarole Op. 5 is a French-influenced work. I often find myself thinking of a boat bobbing on waves, while I play this work. I believe these organ transcriptions bring many joyful moments in concerts as well as in other congregational use. And not only that: they can be used as pedagogic material as well.
