A motet by Franz Abt with text adapted by the Rev. J Troutbeck. Written for mixed chorus and Soprano solo with a continuo-style chordal keyboard accompaniment.

Haydn composed six settings of the Mass text for the name day of Princess Maria Josepha Hemengild Esterhazy. The Nelson Mass is the third of these written between 10 July and 31 August 1798. Scored for soprano alto tenor and bass soloists SATB chorus organ and orchestra. This is the revised edition by Michael Pilkington. The text is in Latin with an introduction in English.

G.F. Handel's masterful L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato have been expertly-edited by Donald Burrows to present this complete vocal score arranged for two Soprano Tenor and Bass Soli with an SATB Chorus and Orchestra. This complete edition of L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato features the 1740 1741 and 1743 scores reflecting Handel's personal changes involving alternative and additional movements. The 1740 score is a complete reconstruction requiring two Soprano  a Tenor and a Bass soloists. For the longer 1741 score Handel added extra movements toaccommodate additional soloists the complete version of which is included here. Finally the 1743 score boasts a radical change from the previous years with a removal of part three and a significant rearrangement of other movements.  L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato was first performed on the 27th of February 1740 at the Lincoln's Inn Fields theatre after just over a month of drafting. The work is a setting of a libretto by James Harris and Charles Jennens based on John Milton's two complementary yet contrasting poems about the relative virtues of happiness and melancholy.  This edition of L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato presents practical versions of the score which are based on the musical schemes of Handel's performances in 1741 and 1743. Britten's Te Deum In C is arranged for Treble (Soprano) solo SATB choir and Organ accompaniment.In preparing for publication the 1935 orchestral version of Britten's Te Deum in C it became clearthat there were a number of discrepancies between the manuscript and the original 193 vocal score. Some of these were minor: different articulation and dynamic markings something Britten was later very fussy about but perhapsleft unchanged on proof because of his relative inexperience at this stage of his career with the processes of music publishing. Others were more important: wrong pedal notes for example which Britten failed to notice on proof and which have been perpetuated in performances and recordings for nearly seventy years. These have been corrected in the new edition of the vocal score and in the orchestral score (Britten clearly used the published vocal scoreto prepare his orchestral version).The two versions have been made consistent in other details - rehearsal cues and bar numbers for example - since Britten intended choristers to use the vocal score to perform theorchestral version. This would have been an easy task for these is little discrepancy in essential details between versions (a rare departure occurs in bars 53 to 56 where the works 'Lord God of Sabaoth' are unaccompanied in theorchestral version but doubled by Organ in the original). Sustained Organ chords are often filled out with arpeggiated string writing while the spacing of chords is frequently much wider in the string version with melodiestransposed into different octaves.Although harmony in both versions is identical voice leading is sometimes altered in the latter to make it better suited to the idioms of the instruments concerned. So although inessence the two versions are the same the soundworld explored in each is quite distinct. Probably composed in 1690 the Messe de Minu t pour Noël H 9 is perhaps Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s best-known composition after the Te Deum H 146.
