ACT has been described as both a musical onslaught and also a playful tour de force an impressive and skilful work for full Orchestra. When Wallin’s Clarinet Concerto was performed by the ClevelandOrchestra in 2002 the composer was so buoyed by the warm reaction of audience and musicians that he was inspired to create this work for Orchestra to summon all its forces as one entity in forward motion together. Of the genesisof this piece Wallin wrote that ‘The foundation of mankind’s success is our ability to cooperate. For me one of the most amazing examples of human collaboration is the symphony Orchestra'. RolfWallin is a renowned Nordic composer whose work encompasses elements of classical training jazz early music and avant garde rock while incorporating a wide range of techniques and expressions.

Full Score-Full orchestra score for Per NørgÃ¥rd's Symphony No. 5 (1987-90 rev.1991). Manuscript copy. Programme note: My 5th Symphony was commissioned by the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra and premiered on December 6th 1990 by and dedicated to the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen.  After the premiere in 1990 I decided to revise the beginning (and only the beginning) of the work. The first pages of the score were discarded and about 20 seconds of new music was written in the summer of 1991. The new and final versionwas premiered on 1st of May 1992.  The symphony progresses without pauses between movements often in several layers of tempo with mutual ´golden section´proportions. The listener´s experience of form in the work will therefore depend on the directions of his own attention. But so far as overall divisions are concerned four sections (perhaps five) - running into each other - can be traced: an expansive cascading introduction a kind of scherzo an chaconne-like adagio and a kind of finale again with the phenomenon of ´cascades´ as a main idea. However as the course is from time to time thrown into chaos by convulsive twitching and crises other experiences of form are opened out within a spectrum from wild to cautious from dramatic to contemplative in a universe of tempi which can suggest the title of a book of poems by the Danish Michael Strunge (1958-1986): ´Velocity of life.´  A listener described the symphony as “a walk with a fire-breathing dragon” and a reviewer described it with words like “a pacifist in times of war”. Anyway words and programme note are – as Carl Nielsen said about titles – only “road signs” for personal experiences in the area of music itself.  Per NørgÃ¥rd

Stephen Albert's Into Eclipse for Tenor and Chamber Orchestra. Full score.'Into Eclipse is based on Ted Hughes' adaptation of Seneca's Oedipus. The five episodes chosen astexts for this musical setting form an abbreviated version in song of this Roman dramatisation of the Oedipus myth.Seneca's play has no external action. As Peter Brook informs us in his introduction to the play '...it takes place nowhere...possibly it was read aloud in the bathhouse to friends.' It therefore seemed possible to take the essential elements of the tale and transform them into a rather complete musical statement that wasnon-theatrical yet dramatic in its own terms. Into Eclipse is thus not a monodrama nor even a solo oratorio but rather a 'Herosong.' It is somewhat in the tradition but not of course in the manner of earlyballadeers and minstrels who often set ancient stories and myths to music and performed these musical narratives for both court and country village.The story is sung from different viewpoints (that of Creon thechorus of citizens and of course Oedipus the king) all encompassed within the bounds of one man's voice and his complement of instruments. There is no concious attempt to 'paint' or emphasise particular words or phrases withinthe text nor was there an effort to musically heighten Seneca's already nightmarish vision with its withering onslaught of bloodthirsty images. The Concerto for Violin was written in early 2012 for Philip Ficsor. The four movements conceived separately are intended to have the feeling of a suite rather than a verbose heavy interpretation of the concerto form. The first movement A Little Parlour Music carries the subtitle after Poulenc in a reflection of the lightness and charm of that composer's work. The second movment Remembrance of Things Past is the most expressive of the movements. The third movement Santa Barbara Rag is full of syncopated rhythm and humor with even a slight reference to another well-known rag. And the fourth movement John Adams Light looks back at the early minimalism of Adams with itsrepitition and constant motion. The concerto is available with piano reduction and for rental with the full orchestra accompaniment.
